Chapter 30: Brothers Again
Third Person POV
"And when that evil Ghost King attacked-" Jack Fenton began to ask.
"Yes Dad, that was me." Danny interrupted, sighing softly. Ever since the family had gotten back home one week ago, Jack and Maddie Fenton had been drilling their adoptive son for answers about his ghost half as well as running a few tests on him. They were more than concerned when Danny told them about how he regained his powers. They wanted to run a few tests on him just to make sure he was alright. Blood samples were taken, physical tests were done and all results came back with Danny being perfectly healthy. After that they asked about how he had gotten his abilities. He told them everything. The portal accident, Sam and Tucker helping him with his powers, Jazz finding out. He had even told them about many of his adventures, purposely choosing to leave out the more 'life-threatening' parts of the stories.
Currently, the Fenton Family along with Sam and Tucker were all seated in the Fenton's living room and Team Phantom was informing Jack and Maddie of all their ghost knowledge. It was slightly less exciting than all the tests that had been run days before.
Maddie and Jack were seated on the couch with Jazz sitting beside her father. Sam and Tucker had brought in chairs from the kitchen while Danny sat in the plush armchair. Maddie sat up straight and a serious glint could be seen in her eyes. "Danny, did you know about Vlad?" She asked.
Danny gulped, that was the one question he hoped they wouldn't have asked. He debated on lying to them, saying he didn't know, but he knew that was wrong. He had been honest with them, aside from sugar-coating a few delicate details, and they deserved the truth. Danny nodded, "I did. I've known since the reunion." The raven haired teen admitted.
Maddie and Jack gasped. "Why didn't you tell us?!" The auburn haired woman asked.
Danny raised an eyebrow at her. "Mom, I didn't even tell you my secret, I wasn't going to tell you about Vlad's. Besides," the teen gulped, "he had made me an offer."
Shocked looks turned to confusion and suspicion. Sam, Tucker and Jazz all knew where this was leading. Sam moved her chair closer to Danny to grip her boyfriend's hand in comfort. Jazz sent him reassuring looks and Tucker moved to Danny's other side for support. Taking a deep breath, the halfa locked eyes with his parents. "Vlad had offered to train me on how to use my powers. And I accepted."
Maddie's eyes widened and Jack's jaw dropped to the floor. Maddie stood up from the couch, "Daniel Fenton, how could you keep something like that from us?!" She questioned.
Danny mentally chuckled, "That's what Sam said when I told them." He thought and just like before, he didn't reply, he simply shrugged instead. "When I first met him, Vlad was a nice man who said he wanted to help me. It was only after an 'incident' that I realized he wasn't the man he said he was."
Danny's friends tensed as they remembered their conversation from so long ago, about Vlad. What Danny had said, what Vlad had done to him, how hurt Danny was. It wasn't something they liked to remember. Sam gave Danny's hand a comforting squeeze. He stole a quick glance at her and smiled.
Maddie and Jack were in shock, they didn't know how to respond to this. All of a sudden the doorbell rang. Danny stood up from his seat, "I'll get it." He told them. No made a move to stop him.
Danny left the living room and made his way to the front door. Whoever was at their house was now knocking on the door. "Coming!" Danny shouted as he jogged up to the door. The knocking was getting louder and Danny finally reached the door, opening it. As he did he nearly got punched in the face, luckily the person realized the door had opened and stopped mid-knock. The person gasped and before Danny could even register who was at the door, arms were thrown around him in a hug.
The teen was more than confused until he saw a familiar bald, dark-skinned man standing in the door. "Holt?" He questioned. Danny then looked up at the person hugging him and recognized the mop of curly blonde hair. "Kylie?"
Kylie released Danny and gripped him by the shoulders, there were tears in her eyes and a sly smirk on her face. "Hey kiddo. Miss us?"
"Danny? Who's at the door?" Jazz called from the living room.
Danny was so stunned he didn't reply. "What are you guys doing here?" He asked, "And... How did you know where I live?"
Holt smiled, "We were watching the news during the Disasteroid event and saw the broadcast of you and your family when the Fenton Rocket was launched." The large man scratched his bald head and chuckled, "Kylie nearly shattered our windows with how loud she screamed."
Nodding, Kylie continued, "I didn't really believe your letter and had been constantly worrying about you. But after I did some research on 'Danny Phantom' I did notice some similarities." She stood up straight and rubbed her fingernails on her shirt, "After that it was only a matter of driving to Amity Park and finding your house, which really isn't that hard to find." As Kylie finished she gestured up at the huge neon sign on the front of the house. Holt held down a laugh as he realized how crazy and stalker-like his wife sounded.
The young halfa chuckled and showed them inside, leading them into the living room and introducing them to his family and friends. Jazz was very grateful to meet the people who had practically saved her little brother's life. The only problem arose when Kylie and Holt began telling them of how they found Danny the night they went to confront Vlad.
Needless to say Jack and Maddie were on the verge of having heart attacks. Maddie even got up from the couch to head into the lab in order to build another rocket just to find Vlad and beat him into a pile of ectoplasm.
Danny realizing the tension was high, sneaked off to the bathroom. He transformed and phased through the roof and out into the city to get some fresh air.
Hello there. I am the Posh Line Break, making my debut in this book. Might I say you look absolutely ravishing dahling. Here, have a hat ;)
Danny guessed he had been flying around Amity Park for around half an hour as he stopped at City Hall where his statue stood proudly. The halfa smiled up at the statue, a feeling of pride swelling in his chest. Personally, he didn't think he deserved a statue, he was only doing what he could to save everyone. And many other people were involved too. Without them, his plan wouldn't have worked.
"Guys look! It's Danny Phantom!" Someone shouted, interrupting Danny's thoughts.
The teen whipped around to see a horde of fans racing towards him. His eyes widened as he leaped into the air, flying away as fast as he could. The fans continued to chase after him. Danny finally found an alley some distance away from the fans and landed in it, transforming back into Danny Fenton. The fans appeared at the entrance of the alley and stared at him.
"Um," Danny began, pointing behind him, "He went that way?" The teen had to leap onto a dumpster as the fans stampeded towards him, screaming in excitement. Once the last of the fans had passed Danny laid down on the top of the dumpster, panting and laughing. He used one of his arms to cover his eyes. Who would've thought he'd ever be that popular? Well, maybe not him exactly but an alternate persona of his. Danny sat up, looking around for any witnesses before transforming back into Danny Phantom and flying back towards Fenton Works.
I AM THE ALL MIGHTY LINE BREAK! SHOWER ME WITH YOUR LOVE, PRAISE AND OFFERINGS! NOW CONTINUE READING!
On a rooftop close to the alley Danny had hid in, Batman and Robin scanned the sky and watched as Danny Phantom flew off in the direction of a large building with a neon sign.
Robin looked to Batman, "You're sure it's him?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Possibly." The Dark Knight replied, "I looked into Danny Phantom as well as Danny Fenton, deducing that they were one and the same. After what happened with Vlad Masters we know that it is possible for someone to have these abilities and look like a regular human." He placed a gloved hand on his chin as his eyes focused on the statue in front of City Hall in the distance. "The appearance of Danny Phantom in Amity Park occurred just over six months after Danny disappeared and around a month before that, an accident was reported at Fenton Works involving the youngest son Danny Fenton."
Batman started pacing around the roof, thinking back on his other facts. "The day Danny disappeared there was a convention close to Dr. Thompkins's clinic called 'Ghost-A-Palooza!'. The Fenton's are known ghost hunters and would no doubt have been there."
Robin nodded as he listened to Batman's explanation. They had reviewed most of the facts on the way to Amity Park but it was good to go over everything before they approached Danny.
"Everything lines up." Batman finished, facing Robin. "There is a high chance Danny Fenton is Daniel Grayson." Robin fought the urge to smile. "But keep in mind, he may no longer remember you or me."
Robin nodded, eager to go see Danny and find out if it was really his long lost brother.
AMAZING LINE BREAK IS HERE! How's everyone doing? :)
When Danny arrived back at Fenton Works, things were worse off than when he left. Jack and Maddie were furious that he left without telling them and Jazz was with Sam and Tucker in the kitchen along with Kylie and Holt doing their best to avoid the worried parents. Danny apologized several times, explaining he just needed some fresh air.
Jack and Maddie quickly realized they might be coming off to harsh and squeezed Danny in a hug. The teen smiled, they were just worried parents. Any adult would be concerned about their child being a superhero and fighting dangerous villains.
Once everyone was back in the living room and seated, Holt and Kylie noticed the time. "Shoot," Kylie muttered, standing. "Sorry everyone, but Holt and I really have to go. It's going to be a long drive back to Wisconsin and I have work tomorrow." She apologized. After saying their goodbyes and giving Danny a quick hug (Kylie) and pat on the head (Holt), the two adults left. Shortly after their departure, Sam and Tucker had to leave.
Around dinner time, another knock sounded at the door. Maddie was busy in the kitchen making dinner while Jack was down in the lab. Jazz was sitting on the couch reading a book as Danny walked into the kitchen. "Mom," he began, "is it alright if I go out for a quick patrol before dinner?" He asked.
After a moment of thought Maddie nodded. "But if you're not back by five o'clock sharp there will be trouble young man." She lightly scolded, tapping the teen on the head with a wooden spoon. Danny chuckled and transformed, phasing up through the roof. He decided to do a quick patrol of around half the city now so that his patrol later that night wouldn't be too long. He did have school tomorrow after all.
As Danny neared Casper High, he heard a whistling noise to his right. The halfa turned his head to see a small, very sharp projectile flying right at him. Thinking fast, Danny flew high above the projectile, only for another one to come flying at him and nick his leg. Danny hissed in pain and looked in the direction where the strange objects were coming from. Not far from him, two figures stood on a roof. One wore a very dark costume and the other wore a very bright one. Danny flew towards them preparing for a fight, but as he drew closer he recognized them as Batman and the teen he had been arguing with in Antarctica. Still keeping his guard up, Danny hovered in the air close to the roof.
"You're Batman, right?" He asked simply. Batman nodded. Danny threw his arms out to the sides, "What's the big idea with attacking me?! I'm a hero just like you!" He shouted.
"I needed to get your attention." Batman replied, stepping closer to Danny while still keeping his distance from the edge of the roof.
The snowy-haired teen crossed his arms, "And attacking me was the way to do it?"
The teen in the colorful costume stepped forward, smiling. "Beats sending a postcard." He answered. He walked up to the edge of the roof and stuck out his hand, "I'm Robin. Nice to meet you, Danny Phantom."
Danny raised an eyebrow at the gesture. His eyes widened as a voice spoke softly in his memories, "Keep an eye out for the Bird and the Bat." As Danny remembered Clockwork's hint, memories from his dreams came to light. The Man with the Face of a Bat and the little robin that had saved him from falling, which oddly had practically the same color scheme as Robin's costume. He thought over everything that he had pieced together in his time with the Fentons. When he regained his powers in the Ghost Zone, he did remember soaring through the air with a bird and a bat.
Danny floated closer to the roof and gripped Robin's hand, shaking it. "Nice to meet you too." Danny replied with a small smile.
Batman walked over to the two teens and he noticed the cut on Danny's leg. Tapping Robin on the shoulder, Batman said, "I do apologize if we've interrupted your night. I was just checking up on you. The League makes a habit of keeping track of all teen heroes."
Danny released Robin's hand and nodded. "It's fine, really." His eyes drifted to the large clock near City Hall and saw that it was almost five o'clock. "Uh, sorry to leave so soon but I really have to get going." He explained. Batman nodded and Danny flew off, flying at full speed back towards Fenton Works.
Robin turned to Batman, "There could have easier ways of doing it." The teen told him.
Batman didn't reply as he pulled out a slightly bloody Batarang. "Possibly, but this was more than just one test." He pulled out a plastic bag and placed the Batarang inside the bag. "Whenever I trained Daniel Grayson I noticed he would always take to the air to avoid an attack. I noted it as odd because of his previous fear of heights after the accident." The Dark Knight walked over to the other side of the roof and leaped down to the ground with Robin close behind. The two heroes walked over to the Batmobile and climbed in. Batman started the engine and drove off, heading to the airport. "While his reaction to the attack is a small clue that could ultimately mean nothing, we do have a stronger piece of evidence now."
Robin nodded as he stared out the window of the Batmobile. They now had a sample of Danny Phantom's blood. Hopefully that would guide them to the truth.
Normal Line Break here. That's all I got to say. Enjoy the rest of the chapter.
Almost two weeks had passed since Danny's encounter with Batman and Robin. His bedroom walls looked like a police investigation board as he tried to piece together every clue about his past. Sam, Tucker and Jazz had been very helpful in his mission and they were figuring out more and more every day. At this rate they may even figure out Batman and Robin's identities.
Danny currently stood in his room on a Friday afternoon, staring at the wall of clues. Everything was coming together, yet he was still missing something. A crucial piece of the puzzle and once it was in place all the answers would show themselves. Sighing, Danny flopped onto his bed, defeated.
From below his window, the slam of a car door could be heard. Danny bolted off the bed and ran to his window, looking out of it to see a sleek black limousine. The teen's heart rate instantly increased as he thought of Vlad, but relaxed once he saw a middle-aged man and a teenager step out of the vehicle. They walked up to the door and gave it a sound knock.
"I'll get it!" Jazz shouted from downstairs. Danny exited his room and began to head down the stairs.
"-name is Bruce Wayne and this is Richard Grayson." Danny heard a man say from the door as he walked into the living room. An older Caucasian man with black hair and blue eyes wearing a pressed black suit stood in the doorway. He was holding a large silver briefcase. Beside him was a teen with tanned skin, spiky black hair and blue eyes wearing a casual T-shirt and jeans, though somehow he made it look almost formal.
The teen smiled and stuck out his hand, "You can call me Dick." He told Jazz.
Jazz simply nodded and smiled, taking his hand and shaking it. Once she released his hand she asked, "How can I help you?"
"I was wondering if your parents were home." Bruce said, offering a smile, "I need to speak with them."
Jazz raised her eyebrow and leaned against the frame of the door, "About what?" She questioned, suspicious of the duo.
"It's regarding your brother, Danny." Bruce answered.
The teen girl sighed and moved out of the doorway, showing Bruce and Dick inside. She lead the duo into the living room and offered them a seat on the couch. She then called for Jack and Maddie who rushed into the living room while Danny continued to hide on the stairs.
"What's wrong, princess?" Jack asked, concern on his features. His eyes widened once he noticed the two strangers in his living room as did his wife's.
Jazz shrugged, "Something about Danny." Her eyes drifted to the stairs and she spotted the teen in question. Squaring her shoulders, Jazz said, "I'll be upstairs if you need me." She quickly walked to the stairs and marched up them, grabbing Danny by the arm as she did. She dragged him into her room and firmly closed the door.
Danny sat on Jazz's bed as she turned and asked, "What did you do this time?"
Danny's brow furrowed. "What?" He replied, "Nothing!" The teen crossed his arms and slouched, pouting. "Why do you always assume I've done something wrong?"
The older girl sighed, "I don't know, force of habit maybe." She placed her hand on her forehead, closing her eyes. She strolled over to the bed and took a seat beside Danny, falling onto her back and covering her eyes with her arm. "Something doesn't sit right with me about those guys." Jazz told him.
Danny smiled and moved into a position where his back was to Jazz's side. He slowly leaned backwards until his head rested on her stomach. Jazz removed her arm from covering her eyes and craned her neck to look at Danny. She noticed his smile and raised a confused eyebrow. "Jazz, I'm sure it's nothing." He told her.
Jazz gave him a small smile and chuckled as she lifted her hand to stroke her brother's hair. "I hope so little brother." She whispered. She appreciated his attempt at consoling her but still, a feeling of dread weighed in Jazz's gut. She couldn't help but feel like the two strangers downstairs were there for a very important reason.
"Danny?" Maddie's voice asked from downstairs, "Can you come here?"
Danny and Jazz both immediately sat upright on the bed, with Danny turning to share a concerned look with his sister. The two siblings stood up from the bed and Jazz gently placed her hand on Danny's shoulder. The two teens exited Jazz's room and headed down the stairs into the living room. Bruce and Dick were seated on the couch while Jack and Maddie sat in chairs. Maddie glanced over at Danny and patted an empty chair beside her. The young halfa looked to his sister before walking over to sit in the chair while Jazz stood behind it, resting her arms on the top of the chair.
Maddie placed her hands on Danny's and gave him a small smile. "Danny, this is Bruce Wayne and Richard Grayson, Mr. Wayne's ward." She said gesturing to the two males on the couch.
"Um, hi?" Danny offered as he awkwardly waved at the two men. Danny's eyes lingered on Richard or, as he preferred to be called, Dick. The way the ward of Bruce Wayne was staring at him made him feel very odd.
"Do you remember either of us by any chance?" Bruce asked, interrupting Danny's thoughts. His piercing blue eyes were inquisitive, yet knowing.
Danny looked from Bruce to Dick, searching his memories for any clue if he knew them. Sadly, he shook his head. "Sorry, I don't. Should I?" He replied.
Bruce sighed softly, "Yes, but I had a feeling you wouldn't." The older man stood up from the couch and walked over to Danny. The teen inched closer to the back of his chair, away from the approaching man, and Bruce took notice of that. The billionaire stopped, knowing how uncomfortable and confused Danny must feel. He reached into his blazer and removed a folded piece of paper. "This might explain things." Bruce handed the paper to Danny, who took it cautiously.
Danny watched as Bruce returned to the couch before he began to unfold the paper. As he did, a picture dropped onto his lap. The teen paused in unfolding the paper and picked up the picture. It was a family in colorful costumes, standing in front of a promotional poster. On the poster were the shadowed forms of people flying through the air with the words 'The Flying Graysons' above them in a fancy font.
"Ladies and gentlemen! The Flying Graysons!" A booming voice announced in Danny's mind. The bloody, mangled bodies in colorful costumes from his dreams appeared at the front of his mind. The costumes worn by the people in the picture almost matched the costumes worn by the dead couple in his dreams. Danny's eyes scanned the faces of the family. He felt like he knew the man and the woman in the photo but he couldn't figure out why, so he decided to focus on the two boys. There was a young boy, no older than seven or eight, doing a handstand on the man's shoulder and an even younger boy, maybe five or six years old, was sitting atop the woman's shoulders. Danny's eyes widened as he noticed the similarities between the boy on the man's shoulders and Dick. Wait, didn't Maddie say that Dick's last name was Grayson? The halfa stared at the boy on the woman's shoulders, and an image of his own face flashed in his mind. Danny gasped softly and his hands began to shake as he placed the photo on his lap and picked up the paper, unfolding it all the way.
It appeared to be some kind of guardianship form. Bruce's name was listed as the guardian and there were two names. Richard Grayson and Daniel Grayson. On the bottom of the form was another picture, only this one was folded and attached to the paper by a paperclip. Danny could feel all the eyes on him as he removed the paperclip and took the picture in his hands. He carefully unfolded the picture and smoothed out the crease. Danny's eyes grew as big as saucers as he looked at the two young men in the picture. The photo couldn't have been more than two or three years old. It was Dick and another boy smiling as they sat at a table, sharing a plate of cookies. But that wasn't what shocked Danny. What shocked the young teen was the other boy in the picture.
It was him.
"Wh-what is this?" Danny whispered, his hands shaking. He looked over to Jack and Maddie, "H-How?" Danny asked. The teen felt like his world was falling apart, yet coming together at the same time. His heart swelled with a whirlwind of confused emotions. Thoughts raced through his mind and he felt his vision start to swim.
"Danny? Danny! What's wrong?!" Danny heard Maddie shout, but her voice sounded so far away.
All the pieces were finally coming together. 'The Flying Graysons', the shadow figure calling them brothers, the people in colorful costumes, it was all making sense now. There was still the oddly colored robin and 'The Man with the Face of a Bat' but those were small details in comparison to what he had just been shown.
Danny's sight returned to normal and he looked over at Dick Grayson. "You're..." He whispered, "I'm..."
Dick nodded and gave Danny a small smile. "Yep." He said, "I'm your brother." Dick then gestured to Bruce sitting beside him, "And this is our guardian."
Danny blinked and slowly nodded. "Our parents..." Danny whispered. The screams of a large crowd rattled his skull as the image of the dead couple in colorful costumes flickered in his mind. "They died... At the circus." The young halfa said.
Dick nodded sadly. "And then Bruce took us in." He continued. The spiky haired teen shifted on the couch, moving closer to the edge. "We had been with Bruce for just over two years when you went missing." He informed Danny, locking eyes with his brother.
"What happened to me?" Danny asked, "How did I go missing? How did I get amnesia? How did I wind up in Amity Park?" Questions were just rolling off Danny's tongue, one after the other. He had so many things to ask and these people would be able to finally give him an answer to the biggest question Danny had. Who he was.
Bruce answered his questions with great patience and understanding. The billionaire explained that Danny and Dick had been messing around in the manor one day and Danny took a nasty fall down a large staircase, hitting his head quite a few times. They had rushed him to the hospital to make sure he was alright and the doctors requested he be kept overnight for observation. But, Danny had woken up at some point and panicked, attacking his doctor and escaping onto the streets where he then wound up in the trunk of the Fentons's car.
Danny absorbed every bit of information Bruce gave him, trying to piece it all together in his mind. The facts matched up, he did remember Jack and Maddie saying they found him in their trunk wearing a hospital gown.
Once Bruce had finished answering Danny's questions, Maddie placed a hand on the young halfa's shoulder. Danny looked to his adoptive mother and became confused when he saw her happy smile, but sad eyes. "Danny, we've been talking with Mr. Wayne about a few things...and we want to ask you..." She trailed off. Maddie reached for Danny's hands, clasping them gently.
Jazz's hand fell onto Danny's shoulder, sensing what was coming next. She should have known this was coming, but it was still a shock to her.
"Danny." Dick began, drawing Danny's attention away from Maddie and to him instead. A serious, but soft expression formed on his features. He was about to ask a very serious question and didn't want to influence Danny's choice by showing too much emotion. Taking a deep breath, the spiky haired teen asked,
"Do you want to come back to Gotham with me and Bruce?"
A/N: Hey guys, sorry about the long wait for an update. I've been a bit distracted and was constantly warring with myself on how to write this chapter. I finally motivated myself to write this and voila! Thanks for reading and as always I'll see you all in the next one!
(Also sorry if the appearance of Kylie and Holt seemed random. I just REALLY love them for some reason and selfishly wanted them to come back. They're so cute ^^)
