Chapter 16: Searching and Recovering
Third Person POV
*Two weeks after the Fenton Works accident*
It was long past midnight. Most people would be sleeping at this hour, but a certain raven haired teen wasn't. He had been staying up late for the past two weeks, working tirelessly to find someone. And he wasn't going to stop until he found even the smallest piece of information that could lead him to his target. The teen heard someone enter the room and immediately shut off the large computer he had been working on. He turned to see his red haired friend floating in the doorway. "Robin, are you alright?" She asked quietly.
Robin sighed, rubbing his temples. "Yeah Star, I'm fine." He didn't have time to chat, he needed to keep searching. He needed a lead. Something that could tell him where his lost brother might be.
Starfire frowned at his answer, balling her hands into fists. "You are lying. You have been staying up for weeks doing the same thing over and over." The Tamaranean girl floated over to her friend, landing a few steps away from Robin. "You need to rest Robin." Starfire reached out to place a hand on Robin's shoulder, but he jerked away from the touch. A hurt look crossed the girl's face and Robin noticed, quickly apologizing for his rude actions.
"Sorry Starfire, it's just..." Robin trailed off and turned back to the large computer located in the main room of Titans Tower. He turned the computer back on, revealing articles of missing people, found people, hospital records, sightings of the hero known as 'Crow'. Starfire looked over all the information on the screen as Robin began to speak again. "I've been searching for two weeks and I have found nothing! No leads on where he might be, no sightings of anyone who looks like him, nothing!" Robin sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I've been talking with Batman too. He hasn't found anything either."
Starfire turned to her friend, surprised. The whole team now knew about Robin's anger towards his former mentor. When Batman he had arrived unexpectedly at the tower, they all thought it would be a friendly reunion. Instead it turned into a fight between the two heroes. Batman had eventually stopped the fighting and talked in private with Robin before the two, the tension between them still present. Robin had shared the information that the caped crusader had given him with the team and they all agreed that they would help Robin find his missing 'friend'. For Robin to contact Batman about this matter was a shock, especially since he made it quite clear that he did not want to speak with his former mentor for a long time.
Starfire reached out once more to place a hand on her friends shoulder, and Robin didn't move away from the touch. The Tamaranean girl gently placed her hand on Robin's shoulder and gave it a small squeeze. "Do not worry friend Robin. You will find him eventually. And we are all here to help." Robin looked at her and she smiled, her bubbly nature taking over. The corners of Robin's lips twitched upwards into a small smile.
He reached for Starfire's hand on his shoulder and gently gripped it. "Thanks Star." The smiling girl nodded, releasing her friend's shoulder. She turned and began to walk out of the room. Just as Starfire reached the doorway, she paused and turned around to face Robin, who was still standing in front of the main computer.
She tucked a stray lock of her red hair behind her ear. "We are your friends Robin. We will do anything to help you find your... friend." With that, the Tamaranean exited the room and headed back to her own room. Robin's small smile slowly disappeared and he turned back to the computer, continuing his search.
Starfire floated back to her room, clasping her hands together. She reached her door and entered her room, floating to her bed and sitting down. The alien girl was worried about her friend. She knew that if he kept this up, he would run himself right into the ground. Memories flashed to the front of her mind of a similar event. Back when Robin was obsessed with finding Slade. They all nearly lost their lives in their battle against him. Even after he was gone, Robin was still haunted by him.
Starfire shook her head. This was different. They were looking for Robin's missing friend, not an evil mastermind. Everything was going to be fine. Robin was going to be fine. The Tamaranean girl curled up on her bed, closing her eyes and slowly drifting off to sleep. She hoped that Robin would be going to sleep soon as well. He needed it.
Hey-o, Normal Line Break here! Did ya miss me ;) Okay, I'm done, enjoy the chapter!
Two weeks. Two weeks had passed since Danny's accident with the Fenton Portal and he was still sitting in that hospital. But, lucky for him, today the doctors were letting him go back home. The reason he had been in the hospital was because the doctors wanted to fully make sure that Danny was alright and suffered no side effects from whatever had caused him to go into the coma. They didn't find any major anomalies, aside from the teen having an extremely odd blood type. After a few more days of observation, Danny was cleared to be released.
Maddie and Jack Fenton signed the release papers, and took Danny home, escorting the teen straight to his room. Maddie helped Danny into bed and tucked him in. Jack left to get him something to eat while Maddie stayed in the room to give Danny a lecture. "What were you thinking bringing your friends into the lab?! And without our permission too!" Danny moved away from Maddie as her voice rose slightly. She noticed this and immediately changed her tone. She reached out and gently took Danny's hand in hers. "I'm sorry for raising my voice. I didn't mean to. I was just so worried about you Danny." Tears sprung to her eyes. "I thought I was going to lose my son."
Danny felt his heart stop. Maddie just called him her son. Danny felt tears in his eyes. He squeezed Maddie's hand. "I'm sorry... Mom." Maddie bit her lip and pulled Danny into a hug. After a moment of shock, Danny hugged her back. Jack entered a few minutes later, holding a bowl of fudge and a glass of water, a goofy smile on his face.
"Hey Danny-boy, I brought you some fudge! It always makes me feel better." Jack said in his booming voice. The teen was surprised by the gesture. Everyone who knew the Fenton's personally knew that Jack was very protective of his fudge. Danny smiled as Jack handed him the bowl. The larger man placed the glass of water on the nightstand beside Danny's bed and lightly ruffled the teen's hair.
Maddie looked up at her husband, raising and eyebrow. "Really Jack? Fudge?" She questioned, her tone light.
Jack shrugged, putting on a smile. "That's not all I brought." He looked back to the door just as Jazz, Sam and Tucker walked in. Sam's face lit up when she saw that Danny was alright, as did Jazz's. Tucker grinned and walked over to his best friend, holding out his hand for a fist bump. Danny smiled and fist bumped Tucker. Jazz made her way over to the teen and gently kissed his head.
"Glad you're alright little brother." She whispered to him. Danny felt tears threaten to spill again. That was twice now someone had addressed him as a real part of the Fenton family. Sam still stood in the doorway. Jazz walked over to her parents and helped shoo them out of the room, claiming that Danny needed some alone time with his friends, as it would be helpful for his current emotional state. Danny rolled his eyes at her antics.
Silence once again was between the three friends. "So," Sam began, walking into the room, "how are you feeling?"
Danny shrugged. "Fine, I guess. A lot better than when I first woke up that's for sure." After that, silence once more. At the hospital, Danny and his friends discussed what exactly had happened when he had disappeared and then almost passed right through the floor. They concluded that he must have gained some 'ghostly' side-effects from being in the portal while it activated. Danny had also shared with them his odd dream. He explained the shadow figures, the man with the face of a bat, one of the shadows calling him 'brother, and the two costumed bodies in a pool of red. None of them were able to make sense of it, and eventually Tucker's fear of hospitals made him and Sam leave.
They had agreed to keep everything said in that room a secret. None of them wanted to even think about what might happen if Jack and Maddie, two ghost hunters, learned that their adoptive son was now technically part ghost.
After a few more minutes of silence, Danny broke the tension and the three friends began to chat freely. Sam and Tucker caught Danny up on what he had missed while he had been comatose. Apparently Tucker now held the record for being shoved in a locker the most times. That information caused Danny to burst out laughing and Tucker to stare angrily at Sam for telling him that. Before they knew it, three hours had passed and Danny's friends had to leave.
"We'll see you at school tomorrow right?" Tucker asked as he and Sam turned to leave.
Danny shrugged. "If Maddie and Ja-" Danny cut himself off, and smiled slightly. "I mean if, Mom and Dad let me." The teen felt emotions swirl inside him as he called the two people who took him in as their own his Mom and Dad. Sure they might not be his real parents, and he still wanted to know who they were, but for all he cared Jack and Maddie Fenton were his parents right now.
Sam grinned. "You better be there. Lunch is going to be great!" And with that, his two friends left and Danny could only wonder what his gothic ultra-recyclo-vegetarian friend was talking about.
A/N: Hey guys, sorry I haven't updated in a while. Also sorry if this chapter sucks. I needed to get this information out of the way so we can get into the more important events (*cough* Danny Phantom *cough*). So yeah, sorry again about the long wait and the suckish chapter. Next one should be better! Thanks and I'll see you all in the next one!
(Also quick question. So you guys know the Line Breaks right? Well, apparently a lot of people have been asking for me to give them their own book. I don't know if I'll do it, but if you guys really want it I just might. So, if you want it just let me know and feel free to offer ideas about what I should put in the book... if I so happen to actually make it. Thanks!)
