Chapter 1 : A Stormy Night
Fierce bolts of lightning zapped the sky and booming thunder roared and rumbled above the city of Zyro, a fast zap of lightning struck down on the stone pavement below and a sorcerer appeared from where the lightning had hit. He moved swiftly past humble village buildings and bushy trees surrounding the area, until he found it, the core of the city. There was a tall mechanical device with eight moulds and inside those moulds where eight glowing gems. Not just any gems, magic, powerful gems. Gems so powerful they held the whole city together and made it flourish in magic, without the gems the city would be doomed. The malicious sorcerer moved his hands around, conjuring all the magic he could get and with that magic, he started breaking through the shield that protected the gems. He worked his magic all night conjuring more magic every minute that past and before the stroke of morning, the sorcerer broke the shield, stole the gems and by using his dark magic, scattered them across the land of Zyro, each gem in a treacherous, dangerous area. Then another lightning bolt struck down and hit the sorcerer and he was gone.
In the morning Jason woke from his rugged bed and went outside, his eyes were as blue as the sky and he had charming brown hair. He was wearing a white shirt with buttons down and a brown vest that cut of at the shoulders. Before he could get a chance to look around he was unintentionally shoved and knocked. He got up and looked around but the only thing he could see was utter chaos, civilians were running around crazily and Jason's eyes were wide open trying to process what was happening, to him it was a blur in till he made out a small child screaming for help. He ran over and pushed everyone out of the way; he picked up the kid and moved him to the side.
"Thank you so much I ought to get going or I'll be late for breakfast, bye,"
The small kid ran away. Jason went to find someone to see what was going on so he went to the widget, gizmo and gadget shop were his old pal worked. He opened the door and a small bell that hang on top rang.
"Hey Fredrick," Yelled Jason as Fredrick walked up from behind the shop
"Hey Jason," responded Fredrick
"What do you want this time? I have a rare mahogany clock from the city of Blizzard peak point that arrived today or a magic owl statue that hoots and squawks when you are close to danger. Oh, Oh I have something I know you'll love that arrived yesterday!" Said Fredrick but before he could get to say what it was Jason interrupted.
"Fredrick, Fredrick I'm not wanting to buy anything, I just came to tell you if you know why the whole towns going berserk."
"Oh, you don't need to know about that," Replied Fredrick
"Fredrick..."
"Ok, ok fine an unknown wizard or worst, sorcerer stole the gems and the magic of Zyro is fading away, that's what's happening I tell you. Stupid civilians go crazy and think that will help."
"Ok, I'm going to the University for Wizards right away to get more information, goodbye Fredrick,"
"Wait, Jason the University won't help you, you're wasting your time." However, before Jason could hear Fredrick he was already out the door and heading for the university. He moved with determination and focus dodging the city folk that rampaged the city. He walked past an anonymous ally way and he was yanked into it.
"Hey get off me, who are you?" Yelled Jason.
He peered at a unknown person who was wearing long shaggy blue robes with a darker blue lining and pointy unwashed shoes. He had a shaggy grey beard that went to a point and messy grey hair that rested underneath a pointy, old, brown wizard hat.
"Be quiet someone is going to hear you!"
"What do you want with me, I know you're a wizard!"
"Well maybe if you'd be quiet and let me explain you would already know by now, just wait it's too public here let's get you somewhere more private."
The wizard threw dust at the floor that turned into a purplish, red smoke that rose up onto them breaking line of sight with anyone close. Jason opened his eyes and he was somewhere else, a place with stern wood around them and benches holding weirdly shaped bottles and flasks with labels. Some of them said bat wings and others said beetle juice, centipede legs and salamander skin. There was a soft mossy floor and a cauldron with a green, bubbly mixture inside of it. He looked up and saw a large platform, shaped as a semi circle that was connected to the walls and had staircase that led up to it. The staircase was connected to the wall and it curved all the way up.
"What is this place?" Said Jason, confused.
"Oh, yes let me introduce myself this is my house and my names Agforn."
"Where is your house?" Replied Jason
"Oh yes, my house is in a forest inside a massive tree trunk, Jason,"
"If you're a wizard why aren't you in the university for wizards and how do you know my name!?"
"Because I've been watching you for some time now?"
"Wait, wait you've been watching me, for how long exactly?"
"Well since the moment you were born, I had a devastating vision of a terrible day where the city of Zyro falls in ruins. I tried warning the grand mage of a horrible danger that will come and steal the gems but he did not believe me, they thought I went crazy and banished me out of the university for Wizards; I took refuge here and searched for someone like you, a hero who can save the city of Zyro."
"I'm not a hero and I'm definitely not capable of saving a city, I'm sorry but you've found the wrong person." Then Jason pushed open the tree trunk door but before he could leave Agforn shouted out.
"So you are saying you didn't save that child from those people today? Or you didn't even save your little sister from falling of that cliffside. Because to me that's exactly what a hero would do."
"How do you know about my little sister?" bellowed Jason
"I told you I've been watching you from here with my magic,"
"Ok, fine, what do you want me to do?"
"I want you to travel to each destination guarded by monsters and magic, get the gems and return to the city of Zyro before it crumbles and loses all its magic, you are our last hope Jason,"
Agforn waved his hand in the air and purple smoke spiralled around Jason until the wizard could not see him. Then it descended and faded away and Jason was wearing much more heroic clothes. The wizard used the same magic and seconds later Jason was holding a sword. Agforn gave him a magical map and a potion of remembrance.
"What's that for?" Said Jason with remark.
"You'll need it on your adventures, now you're ready," Said Agforn in excitement.
"Bye Agforn," Replied Jason as he walked out the door.
