Chapter 2

"It's time," one of my friends told me. "Are you ready?"

"You bet!" I grinned back. In the arena, the color of bright brown reigned as I prepared myself for battle. It felt like I was in a football stadium, which it almost was. It was different because only a few people were watching this fight. There were my friends, the boy that challenged me with his buddies, and a few of the fighters of the current tournament. They called themselves the brawlers, which I couldn't blame them for doing that. My friends and I are a group called the Gamers, so it's nothing to make fun of.

"Ready to fight, miss?" A voice was heard from my back. I turned around and saw my opponent. A brown haired man with his sister's blue eyes stood there. He looked very fit as he carried a humongous sword towards me, a young girl with a less threatening sword. "How would you like to fight?" he asked with a solemn tone.

"It doesn't matter to me," I replied.

"All right, then."

"Our tournament consist of using fake blood so that we do not kill each other," a brawler in charge of the fight proclaimed. "However, the fighters have a health meter. The first one who depletes the other's health meter first wins. That's how you two will compete. Any questions?" We shook our heads and the brawler started the countdown. My heart pounded as I quickly took my battle stance. My opponent was calm and stared at me with no worry.

"How can he act this way?" I thought. "How strong is he?" I wasted no time glancing at his sword. I guessed he would base his fighting on attacking me and thought of ways to avoid them. Everyone was watching us, so we have to give them a good fight. I remembered the brawler said start, then I readied myself for him. He started with a sword slash but I dodged that quickly. He thrusted, slashed, and punched his way towards me. The only thing I could do was block and wait for a chance to strike. But I grew tired after a while, and a stomach punch hurled me away from him. It caused me to tumble horribly and my health bar went down a third. I laid there for a few moments to think. "Why on earth am I doing this?" I thought. "What's the point?" I finally stood up but my head was towards the ground. What is the point of this? It's just a fight. Besides, it's been a long time since I've had a sword fight. I was called the Storm, now I feel weak. I glanced at my friends again to see what was going. They looked worried for me, especially Keiza. I took a deep breath, but saw something else at the corner of my eye. It was black and moved with the small gust of wind the day brought. I realized then that that was the boy I met last night, the one that said I'll never win. I sighed because I never thought he would be there. "In that case," I thought, "let's do it again!" I began to walk towards him and brought my sword to its ready. "This time I should push harder, but not too much." I contemplated this because I didn't want to overdo it on my one opponent. He was strong but I could overcome him. He slashed with his sword again but this time I used my sword to block his attack. He didn't expect it because I blocked so quickly and then I got to hit. Three sword slashes got to his body before he counterattacked. I jumped backward to avoid his thrust and rushed back to lower his health meter again. This went on back and forth, both of us getting hits on each other. Suddenly while we were clashing swords, he said,

"Are you sure that this is the best you can do?"

"I don't know," I replied in shock. "I haven't done this in a long time."

"Certainly there must be more from someone your age. Show me your true power."

"I don't believe this is necessary for this kind of fight. I can't right now."

"All right. Then I'll just make you." He pulled out a gun from his back pocket and aimed it to my head. At this rate, I only had a split second or so to react. To show my true potential would almost be impossible to do, but in this arena I could do it. So I took the gun and held it to the sky. The bullet went flying up and in that second I let go of the gun and did a few backflips. As long as I'm far away from him, I'm okay. I was many feet away along the sides of the arena. I felt the metal on my back and knew that it was as far as I could go.

"This will have to do," I told myself.

"What are you going to do?" A young girl asked me this, but without looking I knew who it was.

"Get out of the way, Jewel!" As soon as I said those words, I ran. Most people run pretty fast, but I run like lightning. It was a gift I learned when my friends and I were mastering abilities that normal people wouldn't have. But it was all a secret from the rest of the world. In this world, we are allowed to use them. So I ran towards him as he shot bullets at me. I dodged them with ease and jumped up from his shoulder. When you run fast and jump, you get really high. That was the idea. I saw the clouds high in the sky and smiled. Adrenaline kicked in my body and I began to fall. I turned myself where I can see the ground below. I was way above the arena. It was time...I pulled out my bow and one arrow and aimed at my opponent. I waited a few second and then let go of the arrow. It speedily went to the fighter and his health meter depleted a little. I then switched my bow out for my sword for my final attack. With my other hand, I summoned red magic and pressed my sword along it. My sword turned the same color as the magic except it was more fearsome when mixed with metal. It became more powerful as I fell further down. I could see the terrified look in my opponent's eyes as I looked at his face. I should stop scaring him but I have to get his health meter to zero. I contemplated this for a few seconds and decided to do the right thing. I got close enough to the ground to make the final blow and charged my sword at his chest. The wind blew hard at everyone else's faces and they couldn't tell what I did. After it was gone, I showed what I'd done. My sword was merely inches away from his chest and no final strike occurred. I did this because it wasn't right to show off this type of strength at this time, at least it wasn't the right time to me. I pulled the sword away to my sheath on my back and said, "I don't want to fight anymore. Can we call this a draw?"

"I don't understand," my opponent replied. "Why did you do this?"

"Because you've seen enough power for one day. I normally would go easy, but you persisted. It was a great fight, though." I smiled to show that we were even and he put his sword in this sheath to indicate that it was over.

"You have great form, Miss!" he complimented. "I don't see any reason why someone would challenge you."

"Why is that?"

"That is because you are strong, Miss."

"Not as strong as the brawlers." We laughed and walked off the arena to go inside the stadium. The stadium is like a home for the brawlers and they come every year to it to compete. My friends and I were able to go to the stadium because of Master Hand and his brother Crazy Hand. They invited us to come and perhaps use our unique abilities in the tournament. For now, we can watch all the fun until we feel ready to join. There are at least three floors underneath the arena and that's all I really know and want to know. Master Hand said that it's too complicating to explain how it works. All I know is that it works. My opponent and I walked through the dark blue halls circling the stadium until we found a bright room. That room is where my friends and the brawlers would eat. the enormous room was a vivd red with dark tables all around for contrast. The only indication of getting food was a long table. It had all sorts of food on it so that everyone can eat what they want. I saw many people and creatures hustling about and talking of different things of the day. But then I saw my friends around one table and smiled. The eldest of the group, Jarod, with hazel eyes and black hair called out,

"Hey, Sis! We're right here."

"I know you're right there," I chuckled. "I just need something to eat."

"You're not allowed!" Jewel exclaimed, clinging to my shirt.

"Why?"

"Because I said so!" I sighed loudly and began to tug at my shirt. Before I go on, I must introduce my friends first. My older brother Jarod is the leader of the group. He's very intelligent and can lead an army if he wants to with his sharp, clear voice. The problem is that he's blamed for almost any antic our group does, plus his mischief. His best friend is James, a young man with darker skin and hair. He has tough black eyes and seems very rugged at first. But he has a good heart and is loyal to the group. Bryan is the calm, wise, and imaginative one in our group. His looks are brown hair and light hazel eyes. He is remembered for his positivity and determination. However, his mind can jump to all sorts of places. Now the three sisters: Keiza, Summer, and Jewel. Keiza is the girl with short brown hair and beautiful blue eyes. She also keeps our group smiling but can be gullible at times. Summer is the sarcastic one. She and James are really headstrong, but she can be in control of herself. Her brown hair and chestnut eyes givers her a fun-loving personality but she can be cautious of herself. The last is Jewel, the youngest of the group at the age of 11. She displays the innocence of the group with black hair and red eyes. Curiosity is her most favorite characteristic and loves to be with the group no matter what. That's my group of friends, the Gamers. Now to continue on...

"Jewel, let go of Lizzy!" Summer exclaimed. Jewel immediately let go of my shirt and I said to my former opponent,

"Well these are my friends! Aren't they delightful?"

"Yes!" he replied. "Very interesting. I was happy to have fought your friend here and I hope to do it again sometime."

"Yeah, that'd be great!" Bryan said after swallowing some food. "What do you think, Lizzy?"

"Totally!" I grinned. A few seconds of conversation past until I heard,

"Why did you do that bro?" My former opponent found his brother standing behind him, who seemed to be quite upset.

"Kenichi, we can't talk about the fight right now," he said calmly. "Relax."

"I can't relax!" Kenichi yelled. "Nobody won and you let it be that way."

"Sometimes it must be this way for the greater good."

"But what about Mina? Does she matter to you?"

"Of course she does. But she must learn that teasing isn't the right thing to do. Even for you, brother."

"Hiroki..." I could tell that these two don't see eye to eye. I glanced at Hiroki and then at the upset Kenichi. He glared at me and declared, "You are not getting away that easily. I'll show you!"

"Kenichi, stop this!" Hiroki ordered. But Kenichi pulled his sword out and rushed after me. I immediately grabbed my blade to defend myself until...Swoosh! Two blades blocked Kenichi's before I did anything. Bryan was able to reach for his swords before me. Kenichi tried to push forward with all his might but Bryan held his stance. Everyone else looked at our group in shock. "Kenichi, enough!" Hiroki yelled sternly. This time he slowly stopped and put away his sword while staring at Bryan and I. "Sometimes we can't tempt the higher power to strike us," Kenichi's brother explained. The angry swordsman glanced at him with furrowed eyebrows and walked away. "I apologize for him," Hiroki said. "He is an interesting one to deal with."

"It's all right," I replied. "There are always people like that. Anyway, shall we meet again soon?"

"Yes indeed. Goodbye for now, Miss."

"You don't have to call me Miss. I'm Lizzy Belle."

"I see. Nice to meet you, Miss Belle." We shook hands and Hiroki took his leave. I then sat with my friends to talk of other things.

"Hey, did you know that you're on night watch with Pit?" Keiza said.

"What?!" I exclaimed with surprise. "You mean I have to stay up all night?"

"No, it means you have to keep watch of the stadium until the force fields come on," James explained. "Or at least that's what Pit told me."

"What am I going to do?!" I had no experience with night watches and I certainly didn't want to start.

"Don't worry," Jarod assured. "It shouldn't be that long. Besides, I think it will be a lot of fun!"

"Yeah!" Bryan agreed. "Who knows what adventures it will bring?"

"I don't what to know," I complained sadly.

"It's okay, Lizzy," Keiza said. "How hard could this be?"

"Ugh..."
