Chapter 1
Hello! I have a little bit of a warning for this story: it will change perspectives a few times. I will mention when perspectives change so that there will be no confusion. Have fun!
Lizzy's perspective
It was a pleasant night in the land of Nintendo. The breeze cooled my hot-red face as I stared out to the great beyond. I always loved the view above the benches of the bowl-shaped arena. Its stars twinkled in different orders in the sky and I could see rivers, trees, and faint clouds to a great distance. This mural of the land was spectacular but I wasn't focused on that. I was mad, and it's a sight to see me like that. I'd pound on the ground with clenched fists and hold my tongue to desperately not say anything that would offend. This time, I really wanted to scream to my lungs...
"Oh would you look at that? It's the mutant girl!"
"What's she doing here? We don't want her here."
"You mean they don't want her here. She's practically an insult to our planet."
"Let's make her leave and never come back."
I finally said, "You know, you shouldn't say that in front of her face like that."
"How dare you say that!" a girl yelled. "Don't you know who I am?"
"Yes. You're the daughter of a very rich businessman. But you should leave Keiza alone! It wasn't her fault that she is a humanoid."
"You know what? You can't tell me what to do! I'm telling my brother."
I let out a frustrated sigh as I sat above the arena. The girl who argued with me told her brother that I was hurting her. He got mad and challenged me to a sword duel with his older brother. I was somewhat reluctant to accept, but if I didn't that would my friends and I cowards. So I agreed to the challenge and it's been made for tomorrow. I was told from some of my friends that my challenger is strong with his blade, and I became really nervous. I went to my quiet place for a good strategy, but I couldn't concentrate up there. I tried my best to focus for a long time until I heard a faint voice a little ways away saying,
"You're not going to win."
I was shocked when it was said. I turned my head to where the voice cam from. But I didn't see anyone there except pitch black darkness. Puzzled, I stood up and walked on the narrow path toward the direction of the voice. I wanted to talk with it more so I replied,
"What makes you think I won't win?"
"You are merely human," the voice said, feeling closer than the last.
"But aren't you human too?"
"Not really. My race is stronger than yours. So how will you win?"
"It's not about strength," I retorted softly. "It's how clever you are."
The voice chuckled and didn't reply back to me. I stopped walking and decided to reach out my hand to see how far away I was. I reached and felt fabric on my fingertips. I jerked suddenly because the voice was right next to me.
"Hello," I shy greeted. "I didn't see you there."
"But you heard me," the voice reminded.
"I just wanted to see who it was. It's nothing crazy."
"I see..."
The voice sounded like a boy's, but I couldn't see his face. I guessed he was wearing a cape but I didn't want to ask. It was pure silence until I asked another question.
"Will you watch the duel tomorrow?"
"Yes."
"And you suspect I will lose?"
"Yes."
"Just because I'm human?"
"Possibly."
I smiled brightly and replied, "Well then I must prove you wrong tomorrow or my name isn't Lizzy!"
There was a small pause from him and I wasn't sure why. But all I heard next was: "You're name is Lizzy?"
"Yup! I'm so sorry I haven't said my name. I'm Lizzy Belle and it's a pleasure to meet you!"
I took out my hand to make a nice greeting but he only stared at it, or at least that's what I thought. I couldn't see because of the cape.
"It's nice to meet you," he said finally. "But I must leave now."
"Oh okay," I replied. "Will I see you again soon?"
"Maybe..."
Then he left. It didn't matter to me. At least I had a good conversation with somebody. But I still worried about the next day. Sword wielding is my expertise but what he said about strength was concerning. All I knew is I had to win for my friend.
