6 // Safe With Me
Chapter 6 - Safe With Me
"How you gonna love, how you gonna feel?
How you gonna live your life like the dream you have is real?
If you lost your way, I will keep you safe
We'll open up all the world inside, see it come alive tonight
I will keep you safe"
I was nervous when I got up the next day. Dylan always drove me to school and I didn't know how things would be today, as we were not on the best of terms. I greeted my parents once I reached the kitchen. I didn't talk about them much because there was not a lot to talk about. My mum was a historian and my dad a geographer, so you can guess how they met. I only saw them on mornings and at dinner, and that was only when they were home early. Don't get me wrong, I loved them, and they had never let me down, but we just didn't spend much time together.
Sighing, I walked out of the house and a small smile appeared on my lips when I saw Dylan inside his car waiting for me. I quickly petted Rusty and then hesitantly made my way towards Dylan's car.
"Hey." I said with the same small smile on my lips, getting inside the car.
"What's up?" He replied, but he didn't return the smile.
"Are you still mad at me?" I asked, going directly to the point. I was fighting against the urge of getting mad, I mean, I was the one with the right to be angry, right?
"I don't know." He stated dryly, and he turned the engine on and started driving to school.
"You don't know?" I questioned, frowning. "Well, I disagree. I think you're still mad at me."
"What if I am? Who cares?" He shrugged and that pissed me off more than anything else.
"Dylan, stop acting like that! I've told you that I'm only trying to figure out why they are acting the way they are." I didn't need to tell him who 'they' were, he already knew.
"But that doesn't mean you have to flirt with them, does it?" He retorted, anger in his voice as he quickly looked at me and then to the street ahead of us.
"So I can't flirt with them but you can flirt with Janice?" I asked, my voice starting to raise.
"It's different." His voice went back to being a calm, cold tone.
"Sure it is, because you're a guy and I'm not?" My voice rose with every second that passed. I crossed my arms over my chest and waited for him to answer me.
"No, because I don't want to see you getting hurt!" His voice was shaking and he had his hands firmly placed on the wheel, with such strength that his knuckles were starting to get white. Seeing him like that made me powerless to reply. We had never had a fight for reasons like this. When we were kids we would fight for silly reasons, things such as who would have the first slice of pizza or play with the Legos first and over the years we just teased each other with things like school, hobbies and such. But we never fought about guys or girls, not like this, at least. I was aware that Matthew and Aiden were not good to be around, but it wasn't like I was going to fall for them or something, Dylan didn't need to be so protective.
The rest of the car drive was filled with an intense tension between the two of us and I sighed of relief when he parked at school. I wanted to talk to him, solve things out, but I was afraid we would just argue again, so instead I just kept my mouth shut.
We got out of the car and before we could carry on with our awkward silence, Janice came running up to us, sticking a noisy kiss on Dylan's cheek. I rolled my eyes and got away from them. There was no way I was going to let them ruin my day.
When I got to my locker, I saw I had an unpleasant visit. Aiden Stuart was waiting for me, leaning against my locker, and once he saw me, his lips formed a beautiful yet devilish smirk.
"Hi, Kiara." He greeted me.
"Not today, Aiden." I immediately said, not in the mood.
"Something's wrong?" His expression looked almost concerned, but I didn't believe that the biggest bad boy in school was worried about me. "Was it Matthew?"
There was it, if I still thought that they were not up to something, this was the ultimate proof that they were. I just had to find out what, with or without Dylan's help.
"No, it wasn't him. It's Dylan, he's just... acting strange." I had no idea why I was telling this to the school's bad boy, but I still told him. "it's probably nothing, though. So, what do you want, may I know?"
He smirked again. "What tells you that I want something?"
"Well, were you just coincidentally leaning over my locker or...?" I sarcastically questioned him.
"Fine." He moved away from my locker so that I could open it. "Are you going to Lia's party? It's tomorrow, you know."
"I don't even know where she lives." I said. 'But you need to find out what is going on and this is the perfect opportunity' I mentally added. "But yes, I will."
"Great! Maybe I could give you a ride?" He questioned, with a grin gracing his features.
"Right. Not going to happen." I told him, absolutely blown away that he had proposed such inivitation. "I'll just try to ask Dylan..."
"Are you sure he won't be too busy with that girl?" Aiden said, and I followed his gaze which landed in Dylan and Janice making out not far way from us. That really messed me up and the worse thing was that I didn't know why. Before I could control myself though, the words slipped out of my mouth.
"You know what, you're right. I accept." I winced once I said these words, already regretting my decision. But I needed to know what was going on and my pride wouldn't let me ask Dylan to drive me to the party. Besides, going with Aiden could help me discover what he and the school's Golden Boy wanted from me.
Aiden grinned triumphantly.
"Then I shall see you tomorrow, love."

Matthew's POV
"You what?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing once Stuart told me that he was going to drive Kiara to Lia's party.
"It's exactly what you heard, Matty." Aiden teased "Jealous much?"
"How the hell did she agree? I mean, doesn't she know you're the big bad boy that drives in a freaking motorbike without an helmet at full speed? And how does she even trust you to the point of accepting your damn offer? How did she not think that instead of driving her to Lia's party you could be driving her to somewhere else?"
"It's simple, she didn't think. She was too jealous to do so. I found her weak spot, but of course I'm not going to tell you what that weakness is."
"You bastard!" I furiously shouted. "Well, whatever. She will be too pissed at you for the way you drive and then I'll be the one comforting her."
"Your plan might work, assuming that I'll actually drive her to the party." Aiden made that smirk that drove chicks crazy but made me really angered.
"Don't you dare going somewhere else with her! I wouldn't be the only one pissed at you! She would be too!" I warned him.
"I can handle her." Aiden stated calmly.
Impulsively, I grabbed his colar and pushed him against the lockers.
"I'm warning you, Aiden Stuart, if you do not appear with her on Lia's party tomorrow, you'll regret it. You might intimidate anyone else in this school, but I am not afraid of you." I pronounced the words slowly, staring directly at his eyes.
"Whatever." Aiden managed to released himself from my grip while rolling his eyes. "But just to make sure, Clarke, I'm not afraid of you either."

Kiara's POV
It was just in class that I finally realized where I just had gotten myself into. I couldn't just be droven by Aiden! I didn't trust him! I didn't listen to a word the teacher was saying and as soon as the class finished, I went looking for the bad boy.
I saw him talking with some of his friends. It was a rather intimidating group, but I didn't care.
"Stuart. COme here." I harshly asked.
He looked amusingly at me. "Miss me already, love?"
I noticed his friends checking me out, which made me feel uncomfortable.
"Just come here, will you?" I asked in the most polite tone I could master in his presence.
"Fine, woman!" He said goodbye to his friends and then approached me "What is it?"
"I'm just making sure that I'm not making the biggest mistake of my life." I stated "I don't trust you, Aiden, but I want to go to the party and I need someone to drive me, someone other than... well, it doesn't matter. I don't know why I'm choosing you, but seeing that you were the first one to ask, I accepted. Now I want to make sure that you won't drive me anywhere else, and that you will drive safely, preferably on a car.
"For someone that doesn't have a ride you sure make a lot of requests." He pointed out.
"That's not the point." I retaliated.
"Fine, love. I'll drive you to Lia's party, and I'll drive you safely." He claimed in a stupid attempt of imitating my voice. "But I sure as hell won't be driving a car."
"Oh, please, everything but a motorbike."
"I didn't know you were this scared." He mocked.
"I'm not, I just... I've never ride on a motorbike and I wouldn't like my first experience to be with a crazy dude like you that could easily get us killed!"
"Outch, that hurt. But don't worry, love, I'll bring you an helmet." Then he leaned over to me and whispered in my hear. "You'll be safe with me, love."
And with that he left. It was only then that I noticed Dylan staring intensely at me. This was definitely not the best way to solve things out with him, but who cared? I wasn't the one making out with another person, was I?
"Doesn't even matter to you to see what I can see
I'm crawling on the floor to reach you, I'm a wreck you see
When you're far from home now
Makes it hard to believe
(...)
We all fall down
We all feel down
'Cause rainy days and summer highs
The more we break the more we feel alive."
Music in this chapter is "Safe" by Westlife.
Question: I was thinking of including a sport where Kiara is really good at? Like it was a secret of hers? I'm saying this because I went to see a rowing (crew) competition days ago and I really liked to see the ambient there, and there were a lot of hot tanned guys there ;) (which is a complete BONUS)
Or maybe her parents could enroll her in rowing so she could become more social and spend more time outside her home?
If you didn't understand what I'm asking, it's simple:
1. Should I make a sport for Kiara? (If the anser is yes, go to question 2)
2. If so, then should she been practice it for years or should she just enroll in it now?
By the way, if you say yes to the sports question, I had already decided which sport she will be practicing, which is rowing!
Please answer the question, it's the only way I have to decide whether or not Kiara should have a sport!
