Chapter 3. Visitors

Soon enough after 4 years the creature that was calling for me, actually spoke. But not the way I expected.

3-074*3

"What I don't understand?"
I looked at its white glowing eyes swirling around in the dark corner.

I tried to approach it but it faded away quickly.

"Wait! Who are you!? Where did you go!?"

697"" ';92 8; 58:3
The creature responded.

"I-I don't-"
The creature's claw reached out for my mouth, shushing me. Its white drippy claw burned me a bit, leaving a trace of frost on my mouth. I shivered slightly to the burning cold.

The creature's claw then disappeared back into the shadows. Then a bigger claw reached for the paper on the ground. My room was an absolute mess. But this creature feels like it's beckoning to me. The giant black claw slowly gave the paper to me. I grabbed it.

"I-I'm not s-"
The creature hushed me again but this time with its icey black claw. It pointed to my pencils and crayons.

I then nodded. The creature then waved goodbye and disappeared.

I walked over to the pencils and grabbed one. I then sat down on my broken down mattress bed. I tapped on the paper. I laid down, sighing heavily. I gazed at my cracked ceiling, they just don't have the budget to get better things huh? My room was like an abandoned building, walls ripped away stains on the walls. The floor was just smooth gray concrete but I soon drifted to sleep. All this thinking got me tired.

*knock knock* "Card Maker, someone's here to visit."
I heard a voice say, I sat up slowly and tiredly. I was still half-awake, I rubbed my eyes as I stood up and walked over to the door. The floor was freezing, I shivered rubbing my hands against my arms. Three people stood there before me. A man wearing a lab coat, but it was odd. Their head was a glass of...orange juice? Weirdo. Another man stood there, they didn't wear a lab coat but were wearing an orange vest and two white straps that connected to two bags. They wore an orange astronaut helmet, his helmet was slightly cracked, showing their brown hair and brown eyes. Talk about dress to impress. And the last person was..Miracle!

"Miracle!"
I gasped.

But Miracle motioned his hand to shush me. And I stayed silent.

"These two will be helping you today to make sure your life here is good enough."

Will they harm me?
I asked Miracle with worry and fear.

"No they won't but they could. They could rat you out and the punishment won't be pleasant."
Miracle whispered.

I nodded walking over to my little broken down table. Miracle soon left the room. Which was a huge bummer, I had some many things I wanted to talk about with Miracle oh well.. I have to hang out with Mr.Weirdo and Mr.Dress to impress.

"Hey kiddo."
The man with the Orange juice head spoke first.

I looked at the man and grabbed my table, just in case they thought about hurting me I scooted the table near the dark corner. Then I moved my chair.

"Oh okay you want to move."
The man scooted over as well.

I huffed and grabbed a pencil, I began to sketch out the man. The other guy with the broken helmet looked around and moved things around.

"Don't touch."
I scowled at him.

The man immediately stopped.

"Sorry kid."
The man apologized.

"It's fine."
I went back to drawing.

"Joocie, can we talk real quick?"
The man looked at the orange juice.

"Sure Socks."
Joocie stood up and walked over to the man with the broken helmet, huh so they also have odd names like Socks and Joocie. Weirdos.

"Joocie I know you said if we do this job we'll be out of debt but I'm getting the creeps here!"
I heard Socks whisper loudly to Joocie.

"I know-I know I told you that it's gonna be creepy."
Joocie whispered back.

"But this for debt?! I'm out."
Socks's voice was slightly panicked.

"You said i Ain'T aFrAiD oF nO cHiLd."
I heard Joocie mock Socks.

I snickered a little.

"Well I am now!"
Socks glanced at me, which I glanced back in response.

"iT lOoKeD aT mE!"
He whined.

"Shut up and do your job Socks! You're supposed to be my temporary wingman!"
Joocie smacked Sock's head.

"OW-SH-"
Socks paused as he looked at me again.

"Y E A H DON'T CUSS IN FRONT OF THE CHILD IN ANY WAY."
Joocie yelped quietly.

"I WAS GONNA SAY SHACK- NOT THE OTHER WORD."
Socks shook Joocie rapidly.

"THAT'S SWEARING IN ONE WAY."
Joocie shoved Socks away from him.

"NO iTS nOt!"
Socks argued.

I let out a loud sigh making Joocie and Socks look back at me.

"Look, the kid is getting bored! Let's just do something!"
Joocie groaned.

"Fine."
Socks shivered slightly.

"So, kid what do you do for fun?"
Joocie crouched down to my level.

"I make things."
I responded sternly.

I might as well mess with them. Why not, they are treating me like I'm not mature, I'm 12! For goodness sake!

"Oh what do you make?"
Joocie smiled.

Why is he so nice!? I'm going to feel so bad for messing with him..!

I stood up and walked over to my cabinet and opened it. There was a single Violet box with golden flower designs around it.

"You can't tell anyone."
I said quietly as I grabbed the Violet box, and walked over to them.

"I won't tell."
Joocie motioned his hands to zip his mouth.

"Are you sure?"
I asked again.

"Hmhm."
Joocie nodded.

I opened the box and revealed my many decks of cards. I remade my cards after the whole facility confiscated them. I shuffled the cards. And then took the top card of the deck.

Truthful. I can't believe he got the card Truthful.

That's the best card to be drawn. This must mean something. I rarely ever get this out of the deck. And this is the only card that wasn't confiscated. I need to try the other guy.

"You."
I pointed at Socks.

Socks froze for a second. I could see him sweating nervously as he walked over to me.

"Pick."
I shuffled my cards again.

Socks kept hesitating on picking a card, I'd glance at Joocie I could see he's encouraging him to. He sighed and finally picked a card. He pulled out...

Angel. Another rare one that survived. This can't be a coincidence. An Angel card? And a Truthful card?! The only 9 cards that survived?! I have to trust them.

I snatched the two cards from Joocie and Socks.

"How long are you staying here for?"
I asked like an innocent child. Ew that's gross. That makes me sound helpless.

"Until we finish the list."
Socks took out a Clipboard with the list of things they needed to inspect.

"Oh.okay."
I said coldly.

"Don't worry we'll get through them quickly."
Joocie reassured me.

"Ok."
I said again, I reached over to grab the crayon box.

Joocie passed it over to me.

"Thanks."
I grabbed an orange crayon and started coloring my sketch.

"Do you feel comfortable sleeping here?"
Joocie asked.

"Sometimes...I don't feel safe."
I shivered, rubbing my arms. And that wasn't a lie. The creature sends me an unsettling aura but I want to close to it.

"Do you sleepwalk?"
Joocie asked.

"I don't know."
I responded.

What kind of question was that!? How am I supposed to know if I'm sleepwalking? There's literally security cameras that have just been installed yesterday after the creature met me!

"How often do you eat when you have a chance to?"
Socks starts to ask the questions.

"I need it."
I just responded.

Socks stared at the Clipboard.

"What's wrong?"
Joocie walked over to Socks and looked at the Clipboard.

"Oh.."
Joocie's face was horrified.

What are they looking at?! I have great hearing, not sight!

"Have...have you ever interacted with an unknown specimen.."
Socks said hesitantly, there was a hint of worry.

"No."
I lied.

"Joocie..."
Socks looked at Joocie.

"I know...I don't want to though."
Joocie winced.

"We don't have a choice."
Socks pushed Joocie over to me.

"Okay, I hope you're okay with this. I'm going to see if you're lying."
Joocie sighed.

I froze. What?! How?! I can't let him! But I need to know.

Joocie grabbed my arms and closed his eyes as if he was concentrating. His orange juice swayed a bit, the orange juice slowly turned red.

"They're...they're.."
Joocie let go of my hands quickly and whispered something to Socks, his juice turned back to orange quickly. I couldn't make out what it was though. But by their new expression they're starting to feel frightened by me.

"One more."
Socks pointed at something on the clipboard.

"Have you seen...a mysterious claw...?"
Socks asked with hesitation again. His hands shook rapidly in fear as he held onto the clipboard.

I sighed. There's no point in lying if Joocie can just tell if I'm lying or not.

"Yes."

Socks and Joocie jumped at that response as Joocie slowly did his thing, his orange juice turned green slowly. Then back to normal.

"They're...let's just go- we're done."
Joocie quickly pushed Socks to the door.

Socks quickly opened the door and left. And Joocie followed after him.

That was the last time I've ever seen them. But I know they'll come back. The cards don't lie to me.
