Chapter 11 - Matt
[Tom's Point of View]
I sat anxiously in the waiting room, tapping my foot on the tile. I bit my lip, closing my eyes.
Matt.
After our declared victory in London, I had decided to go back to my old apartment to reminisce in old memories. Stepping inside the now-ruined apartment complex, I wandered around the halls until I got up to the 4th floor. Walking into my old room. Bending down, I swept away the dust and glass from an old picture.
It was a photo Edd snapped of us while during some party.
Matt was, of course, admiring himself in the mirror, while Tord and Edd were staring at a drunken me who was leaning on Edd for support. I chuckled softly, remembering how badly of a hangover I had the next morning. I felt my eyes water up, as I held the picture close to me before folding it into my pocket. Getting up, I grabbed a flattened box and began to grab whatever memories were still in tact. Finishing collecting what I could salvage, I heard a soft voice coughing.
I froze in horror, jerking my head up. The thought of Edd or Matt wounded badly terrified me...
Storming into the room where I heard the noise, I felt like someone had crushed my chest.
"M-Matt!"
I stammered, rushing over to him. I pulled the injured ginger from under the table, carrying him in my arms. Half of his face was blown off, causing his left eye to be missing. His formidable chin was blown to bit, his jaw hanging off by the slight flesh and muscle that was left. I felt my gut wrench with disgust and horror but managed to keep myself from gagging.
Seeing that Matt's legs were broken, I carried him down the stairs and outside. Setting Matt down, I began to call for help, and the rest is pretty self-explanatory.
--------------------------------------------------------
"Mr. Graham? Mr. Evans is awake if you want to see him you can." The nurse called sweetly, looking at me. I nodded softly, lifting my self out of the chair and walking to Matt's room. Taking a deep breath, I walked in.
I saw Matt laying on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
When I saw him, I couldn't help but stare. There was a red robotic eye in his left eye socket, and a metal squared jaw.
"M-Matt?" I croaked weakly, feeling tears swell up. Matt only gave me a glance of pity and sorrow. I couldn't help but feel as if it was my fault this happened to him. I could've warned him and Edd. Wait, Edd... Where was he? I didn't see him in the crash...
"M-Matt...?" I called again in a whisper tone, Matt closed his eyes, taking a deep breath.
"Yes, Tom?"
"H-How are you feeling...?"
"...Ugly."
I heard a soft whimper coming from Matt, as he turned to his side, burying his face into the pillow. I felt my heart sank, this wasn't the Matt I knew. The Matt I knew was a narcissistic ginger who had the intelligence of a kitchen shelf. Sitting on the edge of the bed, I tried my best to comfort him.
To no avail, Matt let out a soft huff.
"C-Can you leave...? I just want to be alone right now... Give me at least a week to... recover." He choked, gripping his sides. I nodded softly, getting up. Heading to the doorway, I heard Matt shuffle.
"Tom... Wait..."
I paused, glancing over my shoulder.
"I-Is... Did you guys find Edd...?"
I pursed my lips, not knowing how to break the news to him. "N-No... I thought you might know where he was..."
Matt let out a soft whimper, his right eye swelling up with tears. "O-Oh..."
"Matt, I-"
"Please... Just go..."
I bit my lip, feeling my throat get tight. Nodding softly, I left the infirmary, feeling my stomach churn. This wasn't right.
"TORD!" I shouted bursting into his office. I was fuming with anger, my blood was boiling. Tord jumped, looking at me with slight annoyance.
"What do you want Thomas?" He spat, rubbing his forehead. "Can't you see I was asleep?..." He grumbled under his breath, fixing his posture on the chair. I pursed my lips in annoyance.
"Oh, I'm sorry sleepy head, I didn't realize." I sneered, slamming my hands on his desk. "What is your problem, Tord?" I hissed, my mouth twisting into a frown. Tord narrowed his eyes growling a bit. "It's Red Leader,Thomas."
I growled bearing my teeth, "Why didn't you help Edd and Matt? Did they mean so little to you?" Tord jerked his head back, almost in disbelief at what he was hearing.
"I saved you, Tom, I saved you from the pathetic life you were living. After all, I've done for you, this is the thanks I get?"
"I don't give a damn about myself Tord! I care about my friends!"
"Friends?" Tord sneered, scoffing in amusement. "I'm surprised you even care about them! You're so selfish I didn't expect for you to care about them!"
I gritted my teeth, narrowing my eyes. "Matt is hurt and Edd is missing."
"So?" Tord spat, leaning back in his chair, his body tensed up with anger.
"SO?! They were your friends Tord! Did all those years mean nothing to you?" I choked, trying to keep myself from breaking.
"That was the past Tom-"
"SO THEY MEANT NOTHING?! EVERYTHING THEY DID FOR YOU MEANT NOTHING?! EDD STOOD UP FOR YOU TORD! MATT WAS YOUR FRIEND!" I screamed, feeling hot tears rush down my face. Tord slammed his fist on the desk, shooting up.
"ARE YOU FUCKING BLIND? DO YOU THINK I WANTED MATT TO GET CAUGHT IN THIS? NO! IN FACT, I HAD TRIED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY WERE BOTH OUT OF CITY DURING THE ATTACK BUT IT SEEMS THAT MATT DECIDED TO STAY!"
We were practically screaming in each other's face, more tears gushed down my cheeks.
"WHY DIDN'T YOU BRING THEM HERE WHERE IT WOULD BE SAFER?!"
"DO YOU REALLY THINK THEY'D JOIN?!"
I let out a snort of amusement. "I hated you Tord, but you forced my ass into this damn army..." I spat, leaning away from him. "Edd and Matt, on the other hand, they liked you." I took a breath, regaining control of myself for a brief moment. "So why is it that you tossed them to the side like they were nothing?"
"BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT THEM TO GET INVOLVED WITH THIS GODDAMMIT!"
"BUT YOU WERE OKAY WITH MESSING UP MY LIFE?!" I screamed, losing control of my emotions once more.
"Tom-"
"No Tord, you listen to me!" I choked, trying to catch my breath, "I didn't ask to be part of your army! I was okay with living the life I was living, I was okay with dying! I had absolutely nothing to fucking live for Tord! You betrayed us, and it hurt. It hurt so bad I lost not only my home but everything. I spiraled out of control. It hurt, It hurt so much because we fucking trusted you!" I sobbed, shaking uncontrollably.
"THOMAS."
"I TRUSTED YOU TORD! I TRUSTED THAT YOU WOULDN'T HURT MATT, THAT YOU WOULDN'T HURT EDD! BUT NOW, MATT IS HURT. HE'S IN THE HOSPITAL DAMMIT, ALL BECAUSE OF YOU!" I screamed, sinking to my knees. Tord winced reaching out to comfort me. Shooting his advance down, I moved away. "Don't touch me dammit!" I hissed, limping away from him.
"Tom!-"
Shaking my head, I bolted out of the office. I needed to be away from Tord, I needed time alone. Running to my room, I locked myself in. I heard Tord outside screaming my name as he pounded his fist on the door. I refused to open the door, as I curled up in a fetal position under my bed.
I just wanted him to go away.

//Author: Okay, so I'm pretty sure you guys are a bit confused about the last names but I decided to change/give the characters different last names so they're not fully associated with the real counterparts. These are the names they will have for the book: Edward(Edd) Moore, Matthew(Matt) Evans, Thomas(Tom) Graham, and Tord Lund.
