Moving On

I waited outside of the courtroom, letting out a slow breath as I tried not to focus on the crowd gathered, waiting along with me.

I couldn't believe it. It was actually happening.

"Da Vinci?"

I turned, smiling as Scott walked towards me, wrapping his arms around me. "Hi," I whispered, smiling.

"Hey, everything okay?" he asked, looking worried as his eyes ran over my face.

I nodded, biting my lip. "I just...can't believe we're finally here," I muttered.

Scott nodded, taking a deep breath as well. "I know," he agreed. "Took long enough, though."

And really it had. It had been a little over a month since Ralph had...beat me in the mall in LA. But the court date was finally here, and while I was nervous, I was partially relieved. I had waited for this for so long, and it was finally here.

It was hard at first to figure out where the case would be tried , but the LA PD, and even the Denver PD, had agreed to let Ralph stand trial in Canada, as that's where he had murdered the man. Plus, the court in Canada had agreed to take into consideration everything that had ever happened with Ralph. So, here I was, back in Vancouver.

Laughing, I rested my head on his chest. "What did Kirstin say?" I asked, knowing that was who had called my boyfriend. Scott wouldn't have left my side for any other reason.

"That you can do this," Scott informed me, kissing the top of my head. "And that she'll be expecting updates when we can give them."

I nodded, taking a deep breath. Kirstin was referring to how I would be the main witness in the case, along with Scott, Kevin, and key witnesses from set too. It was nerve racking, being near Ralph again period, but I needed to do this. Once this was done, I would never see him again. And as long as that was true, I wouldn't mind being in a large court room full of other people for a week or so.

"You ready?" I asked, looking up at Scott.

"Are you?" he responded.

Nodding, I stepped back slightly, taking his hand in mine. "As long as you're with me, yeah, I am."

Scott smiled softly, leaning down and kissing me gently.

—————————

I stared at the hotel TV, watching the show but not really paying attention as Scott traced patterns slowly on my back. "You okay?" he muttered.

Scott was asking about what had happened yesterday in court. I was on the stand, both lawyers asking about my past with Ralph, and Ralph had blown up.

He started screaming about how I was his, almost jumping over the table to get at me. I had been terrified, yet again, but a three different officers had held him back. Escorting him back to his cell, the judge had adjourned the court till Monday, which left me all the weekend to relax a little bit.

Not that I was sure I could.

"I don't know," I whispered, looking back at him.

Scott smiled sadly, pulling me up to lay beside him. "It'll be okay soon," he muttered, kissing my cheek.

—————————

I looked up from the hotel breakfast, smiling as Kevin came in. "Todrick!" Scott cried happily, standing to embrace the man.

Kevin's boyfriend chuckled, smiling as they sat at the same table as us. "What are you doing here?" I asked, smiling.

"Your lawyer called me in," he replied, leaning back in his seat, his arm around Kevin's shoulder.

"What for?" Scott pushed.

"A few things," Todrick replied.

"To be a witness what the threats did to you," Kevin said. "For one. But also as an expert on stalkers."

"Oh ya, cause you deal with that in the FBI, right?" Scott asked.

Todrick nodded. "I'm part of a team that deals solely with behavior, and serial killers."

"Ralph's not a serial killer though," I commented.

"No, but we can do regular murders too," he responded. "So my whole team came to help too, be more experts on his behavior."

"How many of you are there?" Scott asked.

"Seven, including our press liaison and technical expert," Todrick informed us.

"And all seven came, on their own time," Kevin said, smiling at me.

"What? Why?" I asked, shocked.
"Because it's a big case, over country borders," Todrick informed me. "Plus, we're getting vacation time afterwards."

We all laughed slightly, looking up as a man said, "Well, Vancouver is as good as any place."

Todrick stood, smiling as he moved to the multiple people's sides. "Guys, meet Scott and Mitch," he said. "Mitch, Scott, meet my team- Special Agent Aaron Hotchner, Special Agent Jason Gideon, Special Agent Emily Prentiss, Doctor Spencer Reid, Communications Director Jennifer Jareau, and Technical Expert Penelope Garcia."

I smiled as Penelope instantly moved to hug me, muttering, "Oh sweetie, you didn't deserve to go through all that."
I glanced at Scott, my smile growing as I saw his wide smile.

"Well, it's almost over," Jennifer said as Penelope pulled away from me.

"As long as he gets a good sentence, he shouldn't be an issue," Emily said, nodding.

"Murder in Canada usually results in a 25 year sentence," Spencer informed.

"But that's not including the stalking, and assault," Aaron added, smiling down at me.

"Let's change the subject." Jason said, waving his hands. "What's for breakfast?"

I laughed, unable to stop the smile from growing on my face as everyone started mingling, pulling enough tables together. It was heartwarming, and calmed me down immensely, knowing that complete strangers came all the way to help me.

I sipped my orange juice, glancing at Scott as he wrapped an arm around my back. He smiled, and I leaned into him as we all joined the main conversation.

——————————

I smiled, turning to Scott as the officers dragged Ralph away, not caring that he was screaming. "It's done," I said, my smile wide.

He nodded, his smile just as wide as he wrapped his arms around me. Picking me up, he spun me around, making me giggle.

Ralph had been sentenced to 35 years to life, with parole only after the 35 years were up.

It was over, it was done for good. I wouldn't have to deal, or see, or hear from Ralph ever again.

"Mitchell, Scott," the prosecutor said, moving towards us. "There are reporters outside waiting to talk to you if you want to talk to them," he said.

Scott looked down at me, asking, "Want to deal with the press?"

"Have to get use to it sooner or later," I replied, shrugging.

"What do you mean?" he asked, frowning his eyebrows.

Laughing, I said, "Supernatural, Scooter."

"Oh!"

Smiling, I looked at the prosecutor. "We'll be outside in a minute."

He nodded, moving out of the courtroom. Scott looked down at me then, asking, "Ready to move on?"

I nodded, smiling. "Yeah, I really am."

——————————

I hummed happily, straightening my bangs slowly as I waited for Scott to arrive. Today was Thursday, and while it was strange, it was my regular date day with Scott. It wasn't as busy as the weekend, or Friday. So, at least while we weren't filming, Thursday was the perfect day. Plus, since neither of us had work during the day, it wasn't even a date night, it was a full date day.

And our date days had only gotten better in the past two months. With no words or even thoughts about Ralph, life was great. Greater than it had been in a very long time.

I paused as I heard the door open, smiling as Scott's voice rang out, "Just me!"

"Bathroom!" I called.

I had given Scott a key to the apartment when filming Supernatural had ended, when he had given me a key to his place. It meant a lot to me, and from what he had said, it meant a lot to him as well.

I could hear his footsteps move down the hall, and I smiled, setting down the straightener as he stopped in the doorway. leaning towards me, he kissed me quickly.

"I'm almost done," I said, picking back up the hot straightening iron.

"You're fine," he replied, relaxing against the doorframe, smiling.

I opened my mouth to ask about the plan for the day, when my phone rang, making me furrow my eyebrows.
Setting down the straightening iron, I answered the call, glancing at Scott. "Hello?" I asked.

"Mister Mitchell, this is Warden Schneider, from the Fraser Regional Correctional Centre," a male voice said.

"Fraser Regional Correctional Centre?" I asked shakily, looking at Scott. He stepped forward instantly, wrapping an arm around me.

"Yes, sadly, I have news about Ralph Bryans," the Warden continued.

Meeting Scott's eyes, I could feel my nerves sky rocket. News could mean anything.

"What kind of news?" I asked softly.

"Mister Bryans passed away last night," the man said.

I felt my knees buckle, Scott instantly catching me and leading me to sit on the edge of the tub. He kneeled in front of me, cupping my cheek, keeping his eyes locked on mine as I felt my breathing grow even more shaky.

"Passed away?" I whispered.

"Yes, he committed suicide," the Warden informed me.

I closed my eyes, cursing myself. "Oh."

"He did, um, write something with his blood, on the wall of his cell," the man continued.

"I don't want to know," I said, shaking your head. "I already know it has to do with me but...I need to move on."

"Alright, sir," he replied, sounding almost happy.

"Thank you," I said, taking a deep breath, meeting Scott's eyes. "Thank you for informing me."

"You are welcome," he replied. "Have a wonderful day."

"You too," I responded, before hanging up, pulling the phone away from my cheek.

"Mitchie, what happened?" Scott asked, his voice soft.

Smiling, I felt tears well in my eyes. "Ralph...is gone. Forever."

"He's...dead?" Scott asked.

I nodded, laughing slightly. "He...did it himself," I told my boyfriend. "I...I know I shouldn't be happy, but I am."

Jensen smiled widely, resting his forehead against mine. "You're allowed to be happy," he muttered. "You're safe now, Mitchie. Free."

"Free with you," I muttered, kissing him.

He kissed me back, pulling away after a moment. "I actually wanted to talk to you about something."

I smiled, tilting your head, letting him go on.

"Do you want to go on vacation with me?" he asked.

Laughing, I replied, "I thought this while summer was our vacation."

Rolling his eyes with a smile, he responded, "Somewhere other than here. A real vacation, not just laying in bed."

Laughing, I gently ran my fingers through his hair. "Where did you have in mind?"

"I was thinking...Hawaii," he told me.
"Oh, that sounds perfect," I agreed, imagining lying on the beach with Scott already.

"I thought you'd think so," he replied, before kissing me.

A few weeks ago, I was slowly moving on from my past, learning to put it behind me. But now...I knew it would be even easier. And as long as I had Scott, I knew I would be moving on from Ralph without a second thought.
