Chapter 4
It was simply amazing how Antarctica sat calmly (for the most part) through the entire world meeting without ever blinking an eye at all the fighting, arguments, and shouting. Something told Lithuania that she was used to it. She led him out of the meeting room when it was over and to a forest outside of town. Only then did she release his hand.
Shaking it to get rid of the numb feeling, he asked her curiously, "Why did America say you were scary?"
She sank to the ground and leaned against a tree. "I have been watching some of the countries from a distance," she murmured. "I wanted to know what I was getting myself into by revealing myself. They saw me, and - and I guess I scared them."
"I don't think you're scary," he said softly, sitting down beside her.
She slowly looked at him, and for the first time, a real smile broke across her face. It made her look even more stunning than when she didn't smile. "Thanks," she smiled.
"Hey, you're really pretty when you smile," he told her warmly. "You should do it more often." Then he realized what he'd said and started to blush. "Well, you were pretty anyway, wait, that sounded wrong too -" He felt like disappearing. Why did he always make things go from bad to worse?
She kept smiling. "Thank you," she smiled. "Did you know that you're cute when you blush?"
That just made his blush worse.
