Chapter IV

"It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

POV: Aria, the Duchess of Uniqueness

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BE-. I lazily hit my alarm clock. I looked at it even though I knew what time it was: 4:30 in the morning. I got an entire 3 hours of sleep. I rolled out of bed, got dressed, put my hair up in my signature high ponytail, and headed downstairs. I made a bee line to the kitchen to make over a dozen pancake and coffee orders by my fellow freaks. As I was mixing the batter, I heard the pitter-patter of steps from the stairs. I stopped. Who else would be up at this hour? My answer walked through the doorframe.
"Hey, Ari~", Corrie said tiredly.
"Uh, good morning. Couldn't sleep?"
"Of course not." She had bags under her eyes from her insomnia. "Is there a way I could help, Arianna Blanco Whitacre?"
"Oi! How many times do I have to tell you not to call me by my full name?!", I exclaimed.
"You know you love me~", she said playfully.
"Oi...anyway, could you start the coffee machine, please?" She nodded and went to work, and by 6:30 in the morning, we had all of breakfast done.
Then, we waited for everyone to rush downstairs. 1 minute turned into 5. 5 turned into 10. 10 turned into 20. 20 turned into 40, and when 40 came, my patience left.
I grabbed a pan and a spatula and marched upstairs. I would first try the nice approach.
"Good morning, good morning, good morning, it's time to rise and shine!
Good morning, good morning, good morning, I hope you're feeling fine!
The sun is up, the birds over head! So come on now, you sleepy head!
Good morning, good morning, good morning, it's time to rise and shine!" I sang the song my grandmother used to sing to me when I was little.
Of course that didn't work.
"Seriously...?" And with that, I banged the pan and the spatula together, causing a metal clang to run throughout the house. That woke everyone up. The room filled with a warmth of profanities you wouldn't find anywhere else.
"Not to be the mean one", I started, "but didn't I say YOU NEED TO BE UP BY 6:30?!?!?!" They looked around, when Alexis nodded in shame.
"Well, lucky for you, breakfast is already made. I-" I was cut off by everyone shoving me out of the way to be first to the kitchen tables. The warmth of profanities turned into the coldness of loneliness. I sighed out.
"Of course", I muttered to myself.
I didn't eat that morning. I just sat there, on the arm of the couch, thinking about my selfish depression. But never would I let the others know.
