4; Crazy Meets Crazy.
Yasmeen has been told she's crazy before. And, she agrees on more times than one depending on the circumstance and the person that said it. Now though, she's certain the person most deserving of that title is this man right here.
What did that girl call him again? Anas? Ayuba? Abbas?
Whatever it is, he is the one that's crazy...not her.
What happened to asking her what she's doing in his car? How did she transition to being the love of his life? What in the love of Pepsi is going on here?
She was still unable to wrap her head around it, as she stood next to him with the woman from earlier standing in front of them. She was glaring daggers at Yasmeen, but that was the least of the latter's concerns.
Throughout him gesturing for her to get off the car and coming to stand beside him, all she had been doing was staring at him as if he'd grown a hundred heads. And maybe, he did.
With everything that had been going on--from her feeling like she's been followed to ending up in his car, their exchange to standing right there, it has her brain working a lot more than usual. Without it, she would've known how to react rather than stand there looking dumb, but she will need a moment or two to gather her thoughts.
"What...what do you mean she's the love of your life?" The woman's voice sliced through Yasmeen's train of thoughts, putting an abrupt halt to it. She didn't miss the bitterness in the woman's tone, and to be honest, she felt a bit offended.
At the same time, she couldn't make a fuss about it, not knowing the relationship between the two and how she ended up in between them. Before she could think any further though, the man at fault reacted.
Asad's eyes never wavered from the woman standing in front of them, not wanting her to catch up on the lie. "Listen, Aalia, I'm sorry you had to find out this way but I..." He paused, looking down for a brief moment before moving his gaze to Yasmeen softly. "...this woman has my heart, and I don't think I can ever find it in me to love someone again"
Yasmeen chocked on her spit, because she couldn't help it. She looked away, covering her mouth with her hand.
He was quick to move a bit closer to her like the responsible, and caring lover he's feigning to be. "Baby, are you okay?"
"B-Ba-bay what?" Yasmeen whispered harshly, turning around to pin him with her glare. Did he really say that?
It's official, this man is crazy. He has more loose screws than she does.
Instead of the glare she had gotten accustomed to seeing from him, his brows drew in and his lips slanted towards. He actually looked like he cares. However, there was this look in his eyes when their eyes met that screamed for her to get along with whatever charade he's putting on.
Sighing once she finally stopped choking, he spoke. "I'm sorry, baby. But, I have to tell her the truth. I can't keep doing this to you" He blinked, his shoulders slumping before turning to face Aalia again. "She's just shy, you know this is not the best circumstance to meet"
Aalia who now has wide eyes stared at the two. Her gaze moved from Asad, to Yasmeen, and then back to the former. "You actually love her?" She pointed a finger at Yasmeen, disbelief masking her features and tone.
Instinctively, Yasmeen narrowed her eyes at the woman, not liking the way she's looking at her and how she's speaking about her as if she isn't there. Whatever history they have aside, she doesn't know her so why should she treat her that way?
Asad simply nodded, "Yes, I do" Weirdly enough, he was holding up the look pretty well. When his eyes fell on Yasmeen, his lisp stretched into a warm smile and if Yasmeen didn't know any better, she would actually believe it's real. "I didn't think it was possible to ever love someone again, till I met her" He paused, his smile stretching into a wide grin. "She's everything I could ever ask for, and more"
Aalia couldn't hold back her scoff when he said that, because this whole thing of him being in love is hard to believe. Asad, in love? No way. Not the Asad she knows.
Her scoff had him moving his eyes back to her, but her eyes weren't on him. Instead, they were trained on Yasmeen with distaste.
She eyed Yasmeen, giving her a once over before she scoffed again.
"Come on, Ya Asad. You can certainly do better than her." She didn't bother to hide the disgust in her tone, and the look she gave Yasmeen is one that would make anyone self-conscious. She was belittling her with her words and looks.
And lucky for her, she just had to choose someone that doesn't know how to shut up when insulted. "Excuse me?" Yasmeen gritted out, her eyes instantly narrowing. Not really understanding what's going on, she was hoping to stay out of this. However, now that she feels insulted, that thought has been thrown out the window and landed right next to the sack containing her home training and sense.
Aalia ignored her, much to Yasmeen's agitation.
Focusing her attention on Asad, she continued. "You don't really love her, do you? Y-you can't love someone like that" She already knows he doesn't want to marry her, and she knows how he has avoided all the other women his mother set him up with-but she was hoping she'd be different.
After all, she has known him her entire life unlike the others. She is different.
He doesn't have to lie about loving something to get rid of her. Especially not a woman like that.
Yasmeen chuckled humorlessly, looking away for a brief moment. It's times like this that she wishes she's the type that knows when to keep shut and just walk away. Unfortunately, though, she's the type that speaks up when she feels insulted. She did the same thing with him yesterday, and she will do the same with this woman here.
How dare she talk to her like that?
Lips slightly curled into a snarl, Yasmeen crossed her arms over her torso and took a step closer to the two so she can level her gaze with Aalia. "What do you mean by a woman like me?" She questioned.
Aalia rolled her eyes, almost as if Yasmeen's presence is annoying her and it is. She chose to ignore her, because her business is with Asad and not this woman-whoever she is.
What she didn't know though, is that Yasmeen isn't someone that will simply let that act of hers go. And as such, she snapped her fingers in front of Aalia, "Hey, I'm talking to you" So what if the girl looks classier? Her attitude is the exact opposite and she will not stand there and be insulted for whatever reason.
If she has a problem with Asad, she would handle it with him. Why involve her who knows nothing about whatever the hell is going on here?
Asad knows he should stop them, but he wouldn't. Raising his hand up, he covered his mouth to hide the small grin threatening to take over his features. After seeing what Yasmeen is capable of from the day before and earlier, he figured out she's his best option to ditch Aalia. She's someone that obviously wouldn't back down, and has a probability of pushing Aalia to the wall.
So, why should he stop them?
If anything, however this ends, it will be in his favor so he will simply stand there and watch the enjoy the show unfold.
Aalia blew out a frustrated breath, before fixing her glare on Yasmeen. "Stay out of this" She gritted out. "This is between me and him"
Now if she had said that earlier, Yasmeen would've actually done just that because she wants none of this. But not after she has been insulted. She wouldn't stay out now. This is already personal.
As such, her eyes never left Aalia's as she scoffed lightly, her expression austere. "First, explain what the hell you meant by women like me?" She wouldn't let that go.
She's the same girl who went after her best friend's ex because he insulted her-even though he turns out to be the wrong guy and the one who landed her in her current predicament, she still wouldn't back down when she is the one that was insulted.
Aalia simply quirked a perfectly arched brow. She didn't want to spare this woman a time of her day, but she is asking for it. And she will get it. "I mean a woman who doesn't know where she belongs and where she doesn't. A cheap woman that follows a man around-a gold-digger to be precise. A woman who obviously doesn't belong in the same class as us. Do you want me to continue?" She asked, her eyes daring Yasmeen to keep pushing her.
She chose the wrong person though. Because her words only infuriated Yasmeen even more than she already was.
Another scoff of disbelief left Yasmeen's parted lips. "You are a lot more stupid than I expected" She stated, not so lowly.
Now offended, Aalia blurted out. "What?"
"You're stupid" Yasmeen repeated, this time to her face. "Actually, calling you stupid will be an insult to people who are stupid. You are much more" She added. "No wonder he doesn't like you. You're too stupid for him."
Despite being the first to start it, Aalia looked insulted as if she simply wasn't getting what she asked for. She parted her lips, and then closed it again with eyes slightly dilated like a gaping fish.
Asad decided to step in then before things could get out of hand. He stepped forward, standing in front of Yasmeen before she could say anything that will make the situation beyond that which he can handle. "I'm sorry, Aalia. But, I truly can't marry you especially since my heart belongs to someone. I hope you can understand."
Moving her gaze from Yasmeen to the man now shielding her, Aalia looked like she's two seconds away from bawling her eyes out. She wanted to say something, throw more insults or demand an explanation from him but she knew it'll be pointless. Her best choice now is to go and complain to her mother about the sudden change.
So, with lips slightly pouted, she blinked repeatedly before she turned around and stomped away, leaving the two alone.
The two remained in that position up until she was out of sight, and then Asad took a step away from Yasmeen before turning around to look at her.
Yasmeen stared at the gate where the girl disappeared, before she scoffed and snickered under her breath. "You two deserve each other"
"What did you just say?" He got what she said, but he wanted her to repeat it because it appears the whole ordeal made her forget her predicament with him.
She whipped her head around to say something sarcastic or repeat what she said earlier, but the words got caught in her throat. Her narrowed eyes widened again, when her eyes met his and his famous glare was there.
Oh God, she was starting to miss that warm look even though it was fake. At least then, he didn't look like he would send her six feet under.
She then swallowed thickly, looking anywhere but him as she cleared her throat. "Uhm...what was that about?" Personally, she feels like she deserves an explanation at the very least. She has an inkling what it was about, but an explanation wouldn't kill him.
"None of your business" He deadpanned.
The intimidation she felt instantly wore off, as she looked up and glared right back. "None of my business?" She repeated, slowly. "You just made up some lie and used me"
He offered her a fake, wide grin. "Oh good, I see your brain still works. You're not completely a lost cause then" That's a bit comforting, because now he believes she might not need that trip to the psychiatry after all.
She scoffed, giving him a deadpanned look. "You're crazy" She doesn't care if she will be glared at again or whatever, she needed to say that. Maybe he's the way because no one ever said it to his face-it wouldn't be surprising,
Asad simply shrugged, not taking offense in what she said. "We're all a bit crazy in this country" Perhaps, he would've been insulted if she didn't help him earlier get rid of Aalia, even though she doesn't realize it.
That doesn't mean he will thank her though.
No way.
He still believes she will need a bit of mental help, because she's not completely alright either. In simple words, she is crazy as well. Her actions show it.
Besides, he will take her not ruining his plan as a payback for insulting him and getting into his car for whatever reason. Now, they are even.
"You don't know me--" She stated.
"And I don't want to" He replied, though it was obvious she wanted to continue with her statement before he cut her off.
"-and you just used me to lie"
"Did I ask you to lie?" He arched a brow. "I also don't remember forcing you to go along with anything. That's all on you, so don't blame me"
"I only got involved because she insulted me!"
"Congratulations on knowing how to talk back then" He was being sarcastic, and that only infuriated her.
At the same time, she couldn't help but wonder whether this is how people feel when she's being sarcastic. Asad is giving her a taste of her own medicine, that she knows and doesn't want to accept.
Swallowing thickly, she fisted her hand by the side and narrowed her eyes at him. "You're annoying" She gritted out.
"I don't remember asking for your opinion" His gaze moved from her to his phone which dinged as a message came in. He read the message, before keeping the phone aside and turning around to walk back to his car.
"Hey, where are you going?" She was quick to follow after him, only stopping when he came to a halt so she wouldn't bump into him. She took a few steps back, not liking how they are close.
His expression was austere, and he had the same look he had earlier which had her gulping. "Where do you think you're going?" He questioned, his voice low and losing all that lark from earlier which gave her the space to be smart with him.
She hated this part of him, and at the same time, she realized how stupid her question must've sounded. There was no need for her to ask. After all, she should quietly stomp away-glad that she is in perfect health after the stunts she pulled.
He seemed to have known what's going on in her head, because then he spoke. "Exactly" With that, he put an end to the conversation as he turned around and got in his car. He was hoping to never have to see her again, because like he said earlier, insanity is contagious.
She is simply good for the plan he had earlier, especially the part where she's a complete stranger. No doubt his mother will find out about her thanks to Aalia, but he will make up something to tell his parents to avoid the whole marriage.
Bottom line, the best part of the plan is, he will never run into her again so he's safe.
With that thought in mind, he revved his car to life and without as much as a second glance, he drove away leaving her there stranded.
Yasmeen huffed out a harsh breath, glaring at his vehicle as he drove farther away till he was no longer in sight. The uneasy feeling from earlier was long gone, and she had forgotten about it as she fixed her bag that she has with her and started to walk away in search for a tricycle.
She pulled the bag open to pick out her phone, only to stop midway. Her phone and everything else was in the bag...except the book she risked leaving her house to get. Instantly, her eyes widened even more as she turned around in search for it, making a mental prayer to see it on the floor or something.
But, it wasn't there.
The feeling of dread filled her being, as she stared at the space where the crazy stranger disappeared, knowing that it must've dropped in his car.
The thought had her letting out a cry of frustration, as her eyes welled with unshed tears. All that trouble she went through, all that wahala, just to end up without the book.
She let out a soundless scream, mentally cursing herself for ever leaving her house.
This is what she gets for not paying heed to her mother's request. Suits her right.
