Part Eleven: Sunglasses Have Feelings Too!
"Hey kiddo, transform your pal into his normal form. That's not...natural." her dad looked a little disgusted, "It's still draining his energy. He really doesn't want to go back to being a dragon so you'll have to change him by force." "Okay," Elena mumbled and with a wave of her hand and a few words he was back to being pocket-sized. Except now Elena realized he was a little bigger, "Is he going to keep growing?" she asked, "Honey by the time he's done growing he'll be a little smaller than a two-story building." A small gasp escaped Elena, a two-story building is HUGE! "Wow..." she stroked his scaly back, he was so cute she didn't want him to grow and be giant and scary. "Let's go on a field trip!" her dad proceeded to march towards the front door. "Again? We're still in our pajamas!" Elena exclaimed. "Hello? Magic!" he twirled his pointer finger skillfully and little sparkles surrounded Elena's nightgown transforming it back to her original outfit. She flipped her hands around and her dad got some cool sunglasses. "As much as I love these you do realize it's snowing right?" he laughed as he took the shades off of his face. He hovered his hand over it and smashed it but it disappeared in an orange puff of magic. "Aww, I liked those, and sunglasses have feelings too y'know!"Elena crossed her arms and placed her dragon in her cloak's pocket. Her dad lead her outside, "Did you pay?" "Uhhh....nobody was at the front desk Lena! It's fair game!" he protested. After a long lecture and tons of persuasion he eventually payed for their hotel visit. They were going on yet another "field trip" and the only person who knew where they were going was Elena's dad.
She brought all of the things they had bought earlier and was now packing them onto the bus. While she was trying to shove the crate over a seat her pocket rustled-he shouldn't be waking up yet! ,but before she knew it Cole was standing beside her. "Do you need any help?" she could tell he was tired so why did he keep trying to push himself? "Just go to bed, Cole." she tried to sound stern but she never imagined that she would have to order someone to be lazy! "Cole? Is that my new name?" she forgot that she had never called him that before. "I-is it okay? Do you like it?" "I love it." he gave a satisfied smile and let out a sigh. It was then that she realized he still had the red eyes and dragon horns. "Please sleep, this isn't healthy! Just change into a dragon or something! I can't stand to see you so weak..." Elena set down the crate and walked over to him. "I-I...um...wanted to be with you guys a little longer...dragons live for so long. You don't know..." he seemed drowsy but he didn't seem nearly as tired as he was during their last conversation. "The last time I was asleep was when I was in my egg...and..." he was shaking. "Are you okay? What's wrong?" "T-that doesn't matter now...I'm Cole now...that's not my problem anymore." Elena was so confused! "What happened?" She had finished putting her gifts away and was now trying to comfort him. "I-I...I...can't...I won't...no..." something traumatic must have happened when he was in his egg, but what? Are dragons even aware of their surroundings when they're in there? "All aboard!" her dad called as he boarded his school bus, "Now what did I miss?" He was walking in when he saw Cole as a dragon-horned human and a shaking Elena hugging him. "I'm not going to even bother asking."
