Chapter 2
Night has arrived. Maybe one day I will be able to steal the crown off the King's back. The pleasure of killing him and his wife would mean I have the chance to become the queen. I could bring back the old gods. The new gods the king enforced are not real. I know. I live for the thrill of the kill. When I was three years old, my mother taught me how to kill a Panthorian. Aim for the neck, if you miss you hit the heart. The neck stores a major blood vessel. It stops them from screaming bloody murder. Then you can choke the life out of them. My mother's words ring out in my head.
I jump down from the building where I was stalking my kill. No one escaped alive from my kill.
"You better watch young one. The Midnight Princess is coming for you." Tinchan laughs at the thought of me killing him. Isn't it sad that I get to kill the noble that hits on me? I laugh at that thought. He is reaping money from the King, while I must live in the shadows. No one can stop me from doing my job. The commoner moves on skeptical of what is about to happen.
"Tinchan, better watch your back." I weave the words into the wind. He looks around rapidly, sensing what is about to happen. The world will be better for us commoners.
"Who's there?" His heart rate spikes.
"Midnight Princess." I jump out of the shadows, my blades stretched. Waiting to strike his neck. It misses and hits his tail.
"I thought you were better than this, Princess." He taunts. Tinchan hasn't seen anything. I fire my wrist crossbow at him. It is a direct hit. Blood spurts out on the sidewalk. Tinchan opens his mouth to scream, but no sound escapes. No one escapes me alive. "H..he.." His body falls down with a thud. Blood pours out from his necks.
"I win, Tinchan." I head back home, for another night of rest. Maybe I should slow down with the murders.
I wake up to the sound of my dog barking at the door. A knock arrives.
"Adelina wake up! Adelina!" Wolfe bursts into the room. "Tinchan the guy you were talking with at the brothel has been murdered by Midnight Princess."
"Watch your back Wolfe, you could be next."
"Nah you wouldn't kill me." My eyes open wide in shock.
"What? How did you know?"
"You always go for the guys that are the richest. After you talk to them they wind up dead the next morning. Suggesting that you are the Midnight Princess or the assassin has a crush on you." Wolfe laughs at the thought. Wolfe knows my secret. That is okay though. Wolfe won't tell a soul. If he does I can always kill him. Would I though? I don't think I could even if I tried. He is a friend I can trust.
"Get in here Wolfe. I don't want others finding out," I said. Wolfe looks at me.
"So you are Midnight Princess?" I nod. "I knew it. So since I found out about your secret, I would like to go on a date with you." Why would Wolfe want to go out with me when I could just kill him. Wolfe isn't very bright.
"Deal." I nod, not knowing where we will go. I hope it isn't the Tamchi jail.
We arrive at Tamchi's beautiful harbour. Ships are moving in and out.
"Let's help the fishermen out." Wolfe nudges me excitedly. I help truck over barrels of fish, while Wolfe only brought one barrel of fish over. A smile caresses my lips. "I see why I don't want to get in a fight with you." I laugh.
We arrive at a small restaurant. The food isn't good, but the drinks on the other hand, taste like heaven. Wolfe gets heavily tipsy. I had to carry Wolfe to his home.
"Goodnight Wolfe."
