Chapter 3

The throne room oozed majesty and strength, illuminated by the warm glow of sunlight through the stained glass windows. Calling out with a voice full of purpose and power, King Arthur had a commanding and majestic presence.

"Benson," he cried, his voice reaching through the vast emptiness, each syllable bearing the weight of his order. The obedient servant, always mindful of his master's instructions, reacted quickly, his footsteps resonating throughout the opulent chamber as they echoed against the marble floors.

Benson walked over, his eyes showing how much he respected his master and his posture betrayed an undying commitment. Speaking with a seriousness that did not allow for hesitation, King Arthur made his urgent need known without any delay.

Firm and determined, the king's voice commanded, "Get Lord Gabriel of Lavendelle in the throne room immediately." Proof of the significance of the call was the weight of his words, which hung in the air. This crucial meeting appeared to be the deciding factor for both Princess Arabella's and the kingdom's future.

Aware of the importance of the mission ahead, Benson bowed low to obey his king's command. "Right away, sir," he said, his voice full of eagerness and resolve. His footsteps faded into the distance as he turned on his heel and hurried out of the room.

The throne room, left unoccupied after Benson's departure, remained ready, its majesty and extravagance providing a background for the gathering. Brilliant stained glass windows let in sunlight that reflected off the polished marble flooring in a way that was both captivating and unsettling. Something about the weight of the imminent encounter made the air crackle with suspense as if the walls themselves held their breath.

The elevated throne on the dais served as a symbol of power and authority, from which King Arthur would soon address Lord Gabriel of Lavendelle. A silent reverence pervaded the audience as if it were holding its breath, waiting for the primary individuals in the situation to emerge.

At this point, Princess Arabella's happiness and the kingdom's future were in the balance, and the royal room witnessed the momentous decisions that would determine their fates.

With a mixture of trepidation and concealed contempt, Princess Arabella stood in front of her parents. Her actual feelings for Lord Gabriel of Lavendelle were not particularly favourable, even though she was cognizant of her parents' high expectations for their coerced marriage. She mustered a smile, trying to disguise how she truly ached.

"I'm a little nervous, Mother, Father," she confessed, her voice tinted with anxiety. Her gaze shifted back and forth between her parents, looking for some indication of sympathy or comprehension. Her hidden hatred of Lord Gabriel weighed hard on her, almost threatening to explode.

In response to his daughter's admission, King Arthur smiled reassuringly, his regal bearing unflinching. "Believe in me, my love," he murmured, his tone full of maternal compassion. "You'll love him."

Princess Arabella's heart sank as she heard her father's remarks, and her smile faltered for a split second before she swiftly recovered. She was mindful of her parents' good intentions, but she was overcome with terror at the thought of being driven into an unhappy marriage.

Comforting and uplifting at the same time, Arabella's mother, Queen Isadora, reached out and gently took her hands in hers. She stated with the belief and wisdom of a mother, "Arabella, my love, sometimes affection may grow in the most unusual ways. Give Lord Gabriel a chance, and you might discover that your emotions will change."

The princess nodded, trying not to show her actual feelings with her eyes downcast. The pressures of expectations and familial duty prevented her from speaking out about her genuine thoughts, even though she yearned for her parents to understand why she didn't like Lord Gabriel.

The throne room seemed to enclose them with its sumptuous furnishings and regal atmosphere, the weight of the approaching nuptials weighing heavily on the air. Not knowing how to proceed on the route ahead of her, Arabella experienced a mixture of dejection and concern.

At that moment, the princess wished for understanding and the ability to choose her future. However, she realized as she stood there, the words of her parents still ringing in her ears, that she would have to figure out a way to reconcile her aspirations with the needs of her family and the country. The throne room grew silent as Princess Arabella contended with the conflicting feelings that threatened to overwhelm her.
