Prologue

"Last but most certainly not least, let's give a warm welcome to star receiver, Kinsey Scott!" The announcer declares with such passion and fire.

The smell of the freshly-cut grass invades the nostrils of Kinsey Scott as she steps out onto the colosseum-sized field. The L.E.D. lights illuminate the freshly marked grass and the effervescent cheers of the crowd further consume the smaller high school stadium.

She takes a few steps forward, her black-neon cleats momentarily clinking against the grey pavement before she reaches the forest green grass. The grass crunches beneath each dominating stride. Her even strides eventually transform into a paced jog as the crowd's cheers strengthen. Seeming as if her presence alone served as a stimulus for their escalating excitement.

She waves at the masses, reciprocating their energy in order to feed their building anticipation.

The team's metallic silver jerseys stand out tremendously against the blinding field lights that litter the field. Their matching helmets exemplify  the gladiators that represent their school, Kingsman Bounty High.

The shorter female meets up with the rest of her team that surrounds the two steel benches. The teenage boys full of adrenaline and testosterone, welcome the female with hollers and cheers as she obstructs the secure massive huddle they previously had formed.

"Wooo!" One teammate coarsely growls once Kinsey makes her way to the circle.

"Let's get it Kinsey!" Another deep, guttural voice hollers behind.

The overall positive energy seems to be intoxicating, as well as addicting. The entire stadium joins in on the uniform cries, but the anomaly that could be spotted in this united effort is the opposing team and their blood red uniforms.

The Jackson City Titans.

They stand on the opposite side of the field carrying a multitude of dissatisfied looks. Completely unmoved by this entire ordeal, their intimidating glares continue in the direction of their foes.

The gladiators, completely oblivious, tone down their chants and transform into game mode. Their mouth guards slip into their mouths and their jaws clench around those solid pieces of plastic. The only person without a mouth guard in, is the one and only female on the team, Kinsey Scott. She stands tall, unintimidated by the huddle of boys that made her 5'8 height seem like nothing. They all stare intently at the female with a high level of esteem.

"Alright boys, get your shit together and mow their fucking asses into the dirt! We're going to win this shit, so get your head out of your dicks and into the game!" She screams at full range asserting her dominance over this group of twenty-eight males.

With a simple clasp of her hands the group responds with one unison clap and immediately disperse like a flock of birds.

One group of eighteen heads towards the benches while the remaining ten get to their positions on the field.

Kinsey follows suit, bee lining towards the welcoming green field. Once she reaches her position, she stands with one foot directly on the line of scrimmage with the other behind, helping her keep her balance.

The adrenaline courses through her veins as her heartbeat increases. The black number 7 on her back shows itself proudly as she waits patiently for the course of action to be announced by James Enderson, the star quarterback and her closest friend. She glances back at him and he gives her a reassuring nod and calls out, "Ralph 43!"

Kinsey bends down and on the sound of the whistle from the stout, white-bearded referee, she's off. Her sprint surpasses that of the male on the defensive end that is supposed to cover her. She smiles inside her helmet as she becomes alive and falls in love with the sport once again.

"Jade get out of the fucking car!" The voice resonates through the glass window of the passenger side seat.

Jade sits in the seat, unmoved and resistant. Her hands securely wrap around her copy of Howard's End.

"I'm not going to this complete waste of time!" She argues back. "I hate football!" She pouts and crosses her arms like a seven year-old having a fit.

The owner of the previous opposing voice is Jade's sister and other half, Melanie Hill.

Melanie makes another attempt at yanking the locked door handle of her golden-beige Jeep Wrangler.

"Jade, get out!" Melanie growls, teeth-gritted in frustration. She stands with both hands on her hips, burning holes through the side of her stubborn younger sister's head.

The parking lot full of various cars was free from the presence of other people. The sisters continue their petty disagreement in the midst of theses unoccupied vehicles.

Jade sits there clutching onto her literature, staring directly at the source of all the hollering and excitement, the stadium. Apprehension consumes her facial features as she thinks about all the students and people, in general, that make up that stadium. Her palms begin to sweat and she takes a deep, throat constricting gulp.

Jade is new to Kingsman Bounty so her nineteen year old sister thought it'd be a great idea for her to make some new friends in this small town by attending the traditional Friday football. It is such a big deal in this small town of Kingsman Bounty. All the families of the town assembled every Friday night to enjoy and support the football team that brought them such immense pride.

The varsity Kingsman Bounty football team are well renown for their eleven straight wins at Nationals. This astonished many that didn't believe in the little small town football team.

Everyone in town is here, so Melanie thought it would be a great opportunity for her little sister to meet other people her age. The only real solid friend Jade has had her entire life was her beloved sister.

Jade's older sister just enrolled as a freshman into Kingsman University, the local college which gave Jade the dissatisfaction of having to face the last two years of her high school career completely alone. For so long she relied upon her sister's support, but now she has to fend for herself.

"Jade," Melanie utters in a low, mellow tone. "Please." Melanie's sharp eyes soften and instead of staring at her sister with vexation, her eyes become more desperate.

Jade begins to shift in the black leather seating and her face begins to contort, showing her genuine guilt.

She sighs heavily before pressing the button on the middle console that unlocks the passenger seat door. She then proceeds to pull at the handle and push the door out, making her exit.

"Final-fucking-ly," the older sister breathes out, glad that she got through to her headstrong younger sibling. Her grin extends from ear to ear with her white sparkling teeth showing themselves.

"Whatever," Jade simply combats while swiftly walking past her sister into the direction of the ticket booth.

The shorter female speed walks with her oversized red flannel flowing along with her. Her wavy chestnut brown hair majestically cascades down her shoulders. Her jet black combat boots stomp on the tarmac of the parking lot. The clinking of the heavy boots and the chains hanging off of the boots are the only things heard in the night of the empty parking lot.

The clothes contrasted with the true Jade Hill. The Jade Hill that is truly nerdy, shy, and unconfrontational.

"You know you still love me, loser," Melanie teases following behind.

Both females stand on the side of the bleachers silently observing, looking for an open space to sit.

Melanie slightly taps Jade and points toward a space in the sixth row in between two fairly large, overweight and most likely sweaty men that were a little too excited about this game.

"You've got to be fucking kidding me," Jade sighs under her breath.

Before she can protest, her sister is already passing through the crowds of people. Jade holds the book like a security blanket, close to her chest as she passes all the new people she has never seen before moving here a week ago.

"Sorry. Excuse me. Sorry. Sorry," is all the girl says as she weaves through the crowd of people.

Once Jade reaches her sister, she plops down onto the fairly chilly steel bleacher and flips open her book, expertly, to the last page she read.

"Touchdown for Scott!" The announcer states.

The crowd jumps up with fists pumping while Jade sits there completely unaffected by the events going on in front of her.
