Chapter 2 (Picture of Cody)
CHAPTER 2// EDITED
My alarm snapped me from my dream world and I put my pillow over my head as I groaned. It should be a law to be up this early.
I eventually forced myself out of bed and walked to my bathroom, I turned on my light which practically blinded me. I did my morning face wash routine and brushed my teeth.
I picked my outfit from my clothes and stripped from my night clothes. I pulled on a white shirt and pulled on some skinny jeans, I topped it off with a plaid button up shirt and converse.
I grabbed my phone and tucked it in the waistband of my jeans. I grabbed my book bag and skipped down the stairs.
I grabbed a granola bar from the counter and walked through the living room. I grabbed my skateboard and jogged out to the gate.
Lacey was typing rapidly on her phone when I walked up beside her. I saw the contact name and rolled my eyes when I recognized it.
"You ready?" I asked, she looked up from her phone and then clicked it off, she smiled exposing her dimples.
"Yeah, let's go," she answered, I set my board down and we set off towards school. Lacey was doing more paying attention to her phone than talking to me.
We walked through the front doors of the school and I had to push Lacey so she wouldn't walk into a pole. When we reached our lockers I turned towards Lacey and crossed my arms.
"Ok, what is it?" I asked, she looked up from her phone and looked blankly at me. "Don't make me break your phone." She sighed in defeat.
"I've been arguing with Max since last night," she admitted, I uncrossed my arms. "He snapped at me when I asked who kept texting him." I shook my head as I rolled my eyes.
I closed my locker and headed towards first hour. I plopped down in my desk and dropped my book bag, I ran my hands down my face.
"Starbucks?" A familiar voice said, I looked at Reese and chuckled.
"Yes," I answered as I took his mocha, I took a sip and handed it back to him. "I really needed that."
"Everything okay?" He asked and I nodded in response.
"Just sleepy," I answered and he pinched my cheek before he walked to his desk. I rolled my eyes and rubbed my cheek where he pinched.
My lunch hour rolled around and I was walking towards the cafeteria when I saw Lacey. She wasn't alone though, she was arguing with Max.
"It's my phone and I can do what I want with it," Max snapped at her.
"So you're going to disrespect me by texting other girls in my face?" She snapped back and I walked up beside her.
"Is there a problem?" I asked and looked at Max.
"Nothing that's your business," Max shot at me and I raised an eyebrow.
"I'm not Lacey, Maxwell," I said. "I'll puncture your liver with your own rib." I stepped up to him, but Lacey placed her hand on my chest.
"Blake, no," Lacey said, I narrowed my eyes at Max and Lacey pulled me away by my hand. "Your temper will be the death of me."
"Nobody messes with my best friend," I replied with a shrug and we entered the cafeteria.
"Why are you two late?" Cody asked as we walked up. I looked at Lacey, but she stayed quiet.
"Maxwell's on his man period," I answered, Lacey shot me a glare, but I ignored her.
Conversations eroded around our table and laughed at something Justice said. He threw a fry at me and I threw it back. My phone vibrated in my back pocket and I pulled it out.
Call me as soon as you can. -Dad
I clicked my phone off and looked up continuing to laugh. It was killing me inside, what did dad want with me?
The last bell echoed through my ears and I headed out front of the school. Lacey was waiting for with my skateboard as always.
"Lace," I called as I walked up and she turned towards me.
"I have to stay after today," she said and my shoulders slumped. "Sorry, babe." I took my skateboard and we did our handshake before we split.
I dropped my skateboard and took off down the street. I slowed down and kicked my board up catching it. I pulled my phone out and pressed my dads contact.
"Blake," my dads deep voice answered and I took a breath before I answered. My dad and I didn't always see eye to eye, I was too much like him.
"Hey, dad," I said as I continued walking down the street. "I got your message."
"Yes, I needed to speak with you," he said, I swallowed, but my throat was dry as a desert.
"Yes?" I questioned as I opened the gate leading to our house. "About what?"
"It's nothing urgent or any type of emergency," he said, I opened the front door and dropped my board. "Just wanted to see my little girl." I stopped and looked around.
"Where are you?" I asked as I walked further in.
"You have to find me," he said, I could feel him smirking and I shook my head. It was always a game we played when we were younger.
I hung up the phone and set off to search for him. I looked through the kitchen and then through the lounge room. I heard something upstairs and I chuckled to myself as I headed upstairs.
I walked into my room and crept towards me closet, I opened my closet door and dad looked up fake shocked.
"Dad," I exclaimed as I hugged him. "You're home."
"Of course I am, pumpkin," he chuckled as he ruffled my hair. We walked from my closet and I turned around to him.
"So, what's up?" I asked, he grabbed my two hands and I smiled slightly as I looked up at him.
"You remember that dress your mother gave you?" He asked, I felt an uneasiness in my belly, but I forced a nod. "I want you to wear it to my dinner coming up."
I felt like time stopped and like my stomach just fell out my butt. My moms dress was in the back of my closet, I would always look at it when I missed her. I swallowed, but my throat was as dry as my brothers DMs.
"When?" I forced out of my throat.
"In a few days," he said, I forced a smile on my face.
"Sure, I can do that," I said, he smiled down at me and kissed my head. He walked out from my room and my smile dropped. I closed my eyes and breathed deep.
