After their first meeting on the rooftop, it became routine for them to hide up there together during any free time. During those times they would talk about everything from school to home, and even about themselves. It was strange to her that Hiro was the first person, outside the Matsuda family, that she felt comfortable in telling about the accident and her adoption into the Matsuda family. She told him about her visits to Japan every summer and how she always looked forward to them. Hiro, on the other hand, found himself telling Rose everything the other students questioned him about. He told her about his family and that when he was younger, he fell very ill. It was because of this illness that he had fallen behind in school and was now in the same grade as his younger brother, Tatsuki.

Over the past three years they had become closer then even they could have imagined. They began to look forward to the time they would spend together on that rooftop. Then one day Hiro did not show up at school. This concerned Rose, but she figured that it was just a cold and that he would be back soon. Unfortunately, he did not return the next day. This made Rose worry even more. She began to wonder if he had fallen extremely ill again. She had never felt this kind of anxiety before, her emotions started to overwhelm her and she began to fear that she would never see him again.

Alone on the rooftop, she now felt a loneliness she had never felt before. It was as though a part of her had dissappeared. What was this feeling? Suddenly the door to the roof opened and standing there was Hiro. It was as though he had never left. The wight on Rose's chest lifted and her eyes welled up with tears. She began to cry. Hiro rushed to her side and embraced her. Not wanting to part from her, he lifted her chin and kissed her with all the passion in his heart. He held her so tight, because he was afraid that if he let go she would disappear. It was in these few days that they realized their love for one another.

Releasing from their embrace, he took a step back to look at her. "These past few days have been a torment for me. I missed you so much."

"I've missed you too. I was scared that you weren't going to return" she said as she began to cry again. "I love you!" There was silence. "I love you so much! I didn't know what to do if you didn't return."

"That wouldn't happen, because I love you too" Hiro said with a certainty that left no room for doubt.

They embraced once more and held each other as though they would never let go. They were so happy on that roof that they couldn't have imagined what was about to happen.
