The first day at a new High School is always the hardest. It is even harder when you are from a different country. It was very rare to have a new student at Erica's school, because it was a feeder school. It was even rarer to have a foreign exchange or transfer student. Thanks to this, all the students knew she was coming, but they were surprised to see her arrive with Erica Matsuda. Erica was popular among the students because of her family name. Many came to believe that Erica had met the new student while traveling abroad. The school was divided into three grades, with four classes per grade. Erica was place din 1B, while rose was placed in 1D. The reason for this was the class rankings. Rose was new to the school so her ranking had not been determined, so as a result she was placed at the bottom of the class.

In the classroom, Rose was immediately the center of attention. No one knew anything about her and everyone was curious to find out everything they could, but were all too scared to approach her. They were not confident enough in their English and did not know if she spoke Japanese, so they decided to wait until she introduced herself. When the teacher arrived, he called Rose to the front of the room and asked her to introduce herself to the class.

"Hello, my name is Rose Matsuda and it is a pleasure to meet you all" she said very clearly in Japanese. The class was dumbstruck. They couldn't believe what they just heard. This foreigner had just claimed to be a part of the well known Matsuda family; it was almost laughable to them.

One of the students raised his hand and asked "Do you know Erica Matsuda in class 1B by any chance?"

"Of course!" Rose replied cheerfully. "She is my sister."

The entire class was so shocked by her comment that silence filled the classroom. All eyes were on Rose as she took her seat. As classes broke for lunch, the entire school was filled with gossip, but the topic of their discussion, Rose, was nowhere to be found.
