Chapter 21
The meeting was very short, and Mr. Cross only informed us of the necessary information we needed to retrieve the file. Like where it was located and it's appearance.
It was a blue, old file which had 1043 documents inside it, and had some valuable information on various vampire related stuff. It was specifically guarded by some Lunatics, and that made the VHA more curious as to what the mysterious file had inside it.
This blue file was assembled by an old Vampire Hunter when he was researching on the vampire body, and hypothetically, held information on the vulnerabilities of a random vampire, and if luck was on our side, held information on Purebloods. The Vampire Hunter was later found shrivelled up at the outskirts of Area 22. Since then, this blue file was carefully kept inside a half-constructed building inside Area 22, surrounded by approximately 56 Lunatics. We had to go there tomorrow.
Personally, I think it's just a trap to lure some VHA members. I mean, if the vampires truly wanted to guard this file, why put mindless, senseless and logicless vampires to protect it? If I was a high ranking vampire, I'd take the file and store it in a specialised vampire library or something.
Yes, it's definitely a trap.
But the question is, did Mr. Cross know that it's a trap? I scroll through my phone to search for Mr. Cross' mobile number, and actually managed to find it. I decide to give a brief message.
Hello sir. I am Jane. I had a question concerning my mission.
Did you, not even once, consider that this 'blue file' might be a trap carefully placed just for Vampire Hunters?
And send.
It didn't take long for a reply to come.
Hello Jane. And yes, I am suspicious.
I scroll down the message to see if he wrote anything else. But he didn't. What a brief reply.
What about me and David then? Aren't we perfectly falling for the trap?
I asked, wondering what was going on inside his brain. Not like I can see him right now or anything.
My phone vibrated, and I opened the message I received.
I was planning on falling for the trap since quite some time. David is there with you, and he is in the Top 10 strongest Vampire Hunter list. Do not underestimate him.
P. S.- Jane. Try not to die.
I sent a message immediately.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THE 'P.S.' PART?!
And obviously, he didn't reply back. Damn, that old geezer.
I decide to text David. Let's see what he says.
Heyo Dave. It's me Jane. Can I ask you a question?
Ohohohoho. I wonder what he will reply.
My phone vibrated. I smirk as I see what David sent.
No.
I roll my eyes. People reply so briefly these days.
I'll ask anyways. Will I be able to survive this mission? You will watch my back right?
You asked 2 questions.
Just answer please.
Well, personally I think you'll die before even looking at the file.
I glare at his answer. Sighing, I continue to text him.
You'll watch my back right? I won't die that easily. Unless you suspect your own capabilities?
I won't watch your back. It'll be a waste of energy, since you'll die anyways.
"Jane, dear? Are you alright?" The owner of the Bakery Shop suddenly came and asked. I smile at him, and nod.
"Of course sir. I'm just taking a break and talking to a friend."
"Whoever you're texting is certainly not a good friend of yours." He said, laughing. "Your expression is terrifying."
I laugh nervously, looking away. What a disgrace I am. The owner went inside the store, and I sighed out loud.
A vibration from my phone caught my attention.
Why? You worried?
It was from David. I blink, surprised. He just sent me another text. Is he worried about me? I frown, scoffing. Why is he pretending to be so nice now?
No. I'm fine.
That reply came out a bit stern. I text him another message.
Since you'll watch my back. :)
Yup. Much better.
I won't. And, what's with you calling me 'Dave'?
Why not? We're friends right?
Are we?
Yes :) :)
Well then, I guess we are.
Wait, he did not retort back? What did he eat? After being an official member of VHA, he has been unusually nice to me. I liked him when he wasn't nice. It was more fun to irritate him.
Okay bye! :)
Bye.
I don't know what else to say. I suddenly don't like him anymore. Let's see what he does when we meet up.
A customer comes in. I put my business smile on.
"Welcome sir." I said, with a slight bow. I look at the customer, and his red hair and weird suit seemed familiar. I don't know why though.
He came towards me, and slammed his hands on the counter. My eyes widen, and I look at him.
"Is something wrong, sir?" I asked, confused.
"Why didn't you call me?!" He replied, his voice bold and angry.
"Was I supposed to?" I asked, frowning.
"Yes! Do you not wish to know more about your father?!"
"Please refrain from talking loudly. The owner is very timid." I said seriously. I do not appreciate lack of manners. And this dude was pissing me off.
He blinked at me, probably surprised by my abrupt change of attitude. He took off his hands from the counter, and sighed.
"Look, I gave you a card. You were supposed to call me. Why didn't you?"
Oh. Was he that vampire guy?
Shit, I forgot.
"Erm. Yeah. I was about to."
"Well then, I'll meet you tomorrow after your school finishes." He said curtly, looking at his watch.
"Not tomorrow. Let's meet the day after tomorrow." I said.
"Why? You aren't free?"
"No."
"Alright." He said, sighing. "I'll bring a black Mercedes and wait in front of your school."
"Ye." I said, deciding to drop my polite act.
"And, another thing."
"Ye?" I looked at him.
"Give me a box of all the cakes you have."
"Ah, right away, sir." I said, putting up my business smile again.
