Chapter 2 (i suppose)
-The Next Day-
I had adjusted to being in the Ark, somewhere I hadn't ever really been. Between a prison cell and the short years I lived before being in said cell, it was never somewhere I had the chance to get a memory of. I decided that I'd join a few of the people from the Farm Station and go out to see if we could find edible plants. Easily enough, with all studying I had done while imprisoned in space, I was able to find a good source of edible roots which I cleaned, cut, and dried making them into what was almost like chips. I grabbed a few and went off around the Ark trying to find my boyfriend... or whatever he was. It wasn't really established what exactly we were.
Soon enough I found him by the Rover. "Hey handsome!" I smiled, popping a chip into my mouth and sitting myself on the hood of the vehicle.
"Hi cutie, what are you eating?" He looked at the roots in my hand with slight disgust.
"Taro root, try one." I went to put one toward his mouth, with a little coaxing he accepted it.
"Okay... not too bad." He smiled. I giggled and got lost staring into his deep brown eyes.
"What are you up to, anyways?" I asked, looking around at the hustle and bustle around the area.
"We're going out to... explore." He suddenly added. It was as if he changed his answer suddenly.
"Where are you really going? Tell me the truth, Bell."
"We're going to Mount Weather. We need supplies from there, they have medicine and food." He sighed out.
"Cool, can I go?" I grabbed his hand, pulling him closer to me.
"Faun, I don't really think that's a good idea..." I gave him puppy dog eyes. "Fine, if you really want to." He whispered, going off to look for Octavia.
"What was that about?" Raven asked. "Sorry, I don't think we've formally met. I'm Raven Reyes." She smiled, extending a hand.
"Faunalyn Aertis. But most people call me Fauna, or Faun." I smiled back. "And I'm just tagging along with Bellamy, hope they don't mind a plus one."
"Not at all. I'm just curious what would lead you to go back there after everything they put you through." She gave me a funny look, meanwhile checking the radios to make sure they were charged.
"Let's just say I want to make sure everyone was punished." I said gently, a flame igniting behind my eyes. She hesitated a little, but I think in the end she understood.
"Faun, you ready to go?" Bellamy reappeared, Octavia at his side.
"Yep! I call shotgun!" I giggled, racing to the rover before anyone else could claim the spot beside Bellamy. Clarke appeared from who knows where and sat herself in the back, quietly observing everyone.
While driving, Bellamy would point out things to me. A bird in a tree, or the way the river split in just the right way, one side flowing to the ocean and the other to a lake. That lake was the lake where he stole my clothes. My hand would naturally fall on his, his fingers automatically intertwining with mine. It was almost... perfect. As if we had both seen hell and back just so we could find our Heaven. The whole time, Clarke was watching over the interactions, suspecting something different. I didn't know why; shouldn't she be happy? Two of her friends found love, found happiness.
We pulled up to the entrance for Mount Weather, immediately the air felt harder for me to breathe in. Bellamy grabbed my hand, doing his best to comfort me. Octavia dismounted Helios nearby, looping his reins on a tree. I got out of the car, feeling the grass sink under my shoes.
"That looks fun." I said to Octavia, she gave me a bright smile.
"I imagine it's what it feels like to spacewalk. Galloping on a horse is as close to flying as I can get." She explained, looking towards the sky as if it was where she was meant to born. "Are you and my brother...?" She asked quietly.
"Yeah... I'm pretty sure I'm in love with him." I smiled giddily.
"Whoa," she grabbed my arm to stop me. "Pretty sure?"
"Well I do love him but I'm not sure when it happened. He rescued me and then that night when he came home, I kissed him. We spent the whole night just laying with each other, telling all of our secrets and everything we've done since we were apart." I stumbled on every few words, feeling my cheeks warm up at the thought of kissing Bellamy.
"That's fine, but if you hurt him... Fauna don't hurt him." She made me promise.
-At the same time-
-Bellamy's POV-
Clarke stopped me before we went inside the mountain bunker. "Something wrong?" I asked, looking at her face that had some element of concern.
"Yeah, since when did Fauna laugh and hold hands with Bellamy Blake? Are you sure she's okay?" She asked.
"Are you implying that there's something wrong with us being together?" I accused, feeling myself get angry at the idea.
"No, I'm saying before she was taken she called you dumbass and hated you. Since when did that same person look at you as if you were sent to her from angels? Feels a little off if you ask me. Has she been checked on by any of the medical staff at the Ark?" She asked, in a low voice. It's as if she didn't want to Fauna to hear.
"If you think it's some sort of disorder, you're wrong. She even said herself that she never thought I'd never be the one to save her, she didn't want to leave my side that day."
"I'm not saying it's a disorder, I'm saying it's a phase. You're giving her a hero complex. Bellamy... she loves you because you saved her. That's all it is." She locked eyes with me, giving me a sincerity that couldn't be faked. I shrugged her arm off me, grunting as I pushed open the entrance.
-Fauna's POV-
I skipped past everyone, grabbing Bellamy's hand from behind and surprising him a bit. "Oh, hey." He softly smiled.
"Everything okay?" I asked, feeling the tenseness.
"Yeah, Clarke was just scolding me for not getting you checked on before taking you adventuring." He chuckled. "Looks like she thinks you're not completely better."
"Oh, well I feel fine! Especially when I have you to take care of me!" I smiled, walking beside him and absorbing in all that was in the bunker. I never realized how big the place actually was. I'd never seen outside of the quarantine room or the bleeding prison. Bellamy suddenly tensed up and motioned for us all to stop. He pulled out a pistol from his waistband and went into a room to investigate. He sighed a sigh of relief and came back out.
"Just a bird." He laughed, running a hand through his hair. "I figured, since this place is supposed to be empty." He came back over to me and wrapped an arm around my waist. I rested my head on his shoulder, feeling as though the world around me was fading away and it was just us. Reality jolted me back when I heard a cage door rattle shut. I swung around and locked eyes with Octavia who was simply investigating.
"Sorry..." She spoke from the shadows. I nodded an okay, and looked back at Bellamy. He was staring at me with a whole new level of concern, now knowing that this place had done more to me than he previously thought.
"Maybe I should take you back to the car?" He whispered into my ear, sending tingles down my spine.
"No, I'm fine. I'll have to face my demons someday. Thank you though." I whispered back, leaving a small kiss on his jawline.
"Ew." Octavia said from behind us. I looked back at her, sticking my tongue out.
"Admit it, we're cute." I said.
"Fine fine, you guys are cute in some way." She laughed.
This is what being teenagers should feel like. Exploring some place with your friends, your lover by your side. Smiling, laughing, but this couldn't last forever. There was always some new threat on the horizon.
We eventually got to the dining hall was, where the rest of the farm station was staying in since the Ark was too small for all of us. Bellamy got a call in from the radio, he sat me down and told me to stay put.
"Okay Mr. Blake, I'll stay right here." I said with a wink.
He came back to let me know he had to go take care of something and that he'd be back soon, leaving me with a kiss on the forehead. I gave him a wave and began to socialize.
Soon enough, the place got boring and I went outside to watch the stars. I planted myself on the top of the mountain, which was mostly home to satellites that didn't serve much of a purpose anymore. I heard the vault door open and someone run out below, I looked down to see a man run out followed by two others but I couldn't tell who they were. Then something happened that I could never had expected. The bunker blew up. It was causing the ground below me to crumble and no matter how much I scrambled away it always seemed to be breaking apart underneath me. I managed to get down the hill before something broke off a satellite and hit me, rendering me unconscious and completely useless.
-Bellamy's POV-
Word had just gotten to us. The bunker had exploded. Our people were in that bunker, she was in that bunker. I ran to the radio, desperately grabbing it out of Clarke's hands. "Where is she? Where's Fauna!?" I shouted. There was silence on the other end. Everyone was too shocked to answer me. "I asked you a question!" I began breaking down, feeling her slip away from me. Remembering that I was the one who told her to wait for me there. It was my fault. She was gone and it was my fault. All those people died when I should've been there, been there to do something. Anything.
-A month later-
"I'm heading to that grounder village, see if I can convince them to join us in peace." I spoke emotionlessly. Clarke nodded and let me go on my way. Octavia accompanied me, since she knew more about their culture and language.
It was a silent drive there, we parked nearby and went the last bit on foot. When we entered the village, it seemed like they rushed to hide something. Multiple people rushed into one tent, people were speaking silently and glancing at that same tent.
"What do you think is in there?" I asked Octavia.
"No clue, maybe we should see for ourselves." She responded, making her way toward it. Before we got there, the tent curtains opened and we locked eyes with the person coming out of it.
