Chapter 39
"Don't give Maa false hopes Prabu ...you know Keya is not going to be able to make it, unless there is some kind of a miracle.
A person can't survive...jumping off the balcony from the fourth floor of any building.
Her parents are not going to leave me in peace, after they lose their only daughter. They already believe that I am....an instigator and that I forced Keya to take this extreme step.
There are a few things that we need to focus on now.
Hiring a good lawyer, who can help me get a bail and try not to get expelled from the college.
Mr. Nishwas Sinha's men may call you up Prabu....and give you two options,
One that you persuade me.. to stop digging up his past and his corrupt practices, then he'll try to help me out and...
The second option that ...if you disagree to do so, he may use up all his power and energy to help me stay locked up in jail for years", Bhargavi concluded thoughtfully.
"Yes! I..I..got a call from his henchman, who said the exact same thing as you", Prabir admitted.
"I knew it, this is a golden opportunity for him.
He is quite capable of forging and fabricating evidence, just like he did seven years ago to save that douchebag Mayank.
I need to hire a lawyer, who can be trusted...not a person who gets paid by both me and Nishwas Sinha" Bhargavi said with a treacherous calm voice, as her features revealed an aura of immense hatred and anger.
"What did you reply to him?" Bhargavi enquired.
"I told that I need some time to think", Prabir replied earnestly.
"Bhargu...your future, your career everything is at stake.
I know that you are deep in troubled waters, but you are not alone. I am here for you.
How long will you let that fire of hatred burning within you, eat you up alive ?
I know he is dishonest and a corrupt politician. He has done wrong with Dhruv and his father, I understand that Bhargu...but I don't know if you should have so much of hatred filled up in your heart.
What has been done in the past cannot be undone, and we'll ensure that he is punished for all of his monkey business.
Yes, I trust God and fear no evil, I'll do whatever it takes to ensure that you are not expelled from college", Prabir said emanating confidence and positivity.
"Maa...how about we all go out for a dinner tonight?" Prabir said with a grin looking at Ms. Nalini.
"Here....I am feeling dolorous that Keya won't survive and you are planning on having a dinner?" Bhargavi asked tersely.
"Yeah! Bhargu ...I have invited the best lawyer in this city to join us for discussing your case, Brijesh uncle will also be joining us.
Yes, you can trust Aditya uncle as your lawyer, as he is a very good friend of Ritvik uncle and he is the one who handled Sarvesh's case in the past", Prabir said smoothly.
"You know what Bhargu...you might feel dolorous for Keya but I am f***** going insane, convincing myself to believe every minute that I am a better person than I was...
I could have saved Rachael...had I not been so adamant about never getting in touch with her again, once she pushed me before a moving bus.
I have done the same thing again Bhargu...", He said with shinning bright eyes as tears rolled down his cheeks.
"Keya is my friend Bhargu...I should have at least made an attempt to speak to her, after she left hurting me and....herself that day.
Instead I chose to maintain a distance from her.
I assumed that this was the only way, by which she could easily overcome her feelings for me.
What have I done Bhargu?" Prabir sobbed horribly and knelt down on the floor.
Bhargavi sat down beside him on the floor hugging him, " it's not your fault Prabu", she mumbled softly.
"It is my fault Bhargu...I should have approached her...I should have spoken to her.
We had been friends since high school and I just threw her out of my life like... like one throws out a fly from a drink.
I have landed you up in so much of trouble Bhargu...", Prabir bawled out crying.
"Oh! God! You pathetic sad sack. Now will you please stop mourning her death even before she's gone.
Yes, you threw her out of your life ,but never pushed her off the balcony of the fourth floor.
And perhaps wasn't she the one who insulted and humiliated you before Paru ...and everyone else?
If she wanted you to be her friend as you had been before, she could have approached you once and said a five lettered word SORRY, was that really so hard for her?
Can you please keep this crying and sobbing away from your curriculum?" She said with sarcasm and giggled.
"Stop blaming yourself for others' faults, will you?
It's not going to help anyone Prabu...", She then said softly.
"Wait! Did you just call me a sack? Do I really look like a sack?" Prabir enquired making a hurt face.
"Well, you are actually a remarkable sad sack, a cat's pajamas", she said and rolled out laughing.
"How am I supposed to pay Aditya uncle's fees?" Bhargavi asked seriously after sometime.
"Bhargu ..leave that to me",Prabir said casually.
"I don't appreciate it. If you would like to pay Aditya uncle's fees now, at least let me pay you back later", Bhargavi pleaded.
For the very first time in years, Ms. Nalini was now starting to feel proud of Bhargavi.
While her own mind was spinning and she felt like it might explode, unable to think calmly, the feeling of being completely crushed by problems from all sides - Mr. Nishwas Sinha's threatening, Keya's condition, Bhargavi getting expelled from college, she was amazed to see Bhargavi, who was still admirably talking about paying back Prabir for Mr. Aditya's fees.
Ms. Nalini thought if she would have been placed in Bhargavi's place, she would have been clinging onto Prabir for support, crying and sobbing, but here Bhargavi was supporting him instead.
Ms. Nalini felt sad for having hit Bhargavi so ruthlessly. Her eyes suddenly fell upon Bhawani, who was peeping from her room with tears streaming down her face.
She called her, "Bhawani".
Bhawani came to her mother slowly rubbing her eyes and glanced at Bhargavi.
"Di...will Keya di die?" Bhawani asked sadly.
"Yes...most probably she will", Bhargavi replied without any hesitation.
"No...don't say that way Di..maybe she'll survive", Bhawani pleaded.
"Bhawani....if a person touches a high voltage wire that is energized to around 132kv with bare hands, knowing that it is hazardous and gets electrocuted, there is not much we can do, can we?" Bhargavi enquired seriously.
"But Di ...if she only wanted to die, why did she include your name on her suicide note? Do you know exactly what she has written in that note?" Bhawani asked with curiosity.
"I don't know Bhawani what kind of a lesson she wanted to teach me. She mentioned my name in that note because I had insulted her and because I snatched him away from her. I don't know how I did that...but she said that I did", Bhawani said pointing at Prabir.
"I don't know what exactly she has written on her note", she added.
"Prabir Bhaiya...will Di be expelled from college?" Bhawani quizzed concerndly.
" I promised you Bhawu...I won't let it happen, don't worry", Prabir said enthusiastically.
Bhawani wanted to talk to her sister, since they had their lunch but Ms. Nalini forbade her to be even close to Bhargavi's room.
"Let me bring a bucket for you Bhawani, then you can wail out in peace and even the floor won't get slippery due to the released water fountain", Bhargavi said with as much seriousness as possible, as Prabir and Ms. Nalini rolled out in hysterics.
"Di...I am not crying and certainly not for you...", Bhawani protested feverishly.
********************************
Prabir rang the doorbell and stood patiently, as Ms. Nalini opened up the door.
He looked stunning in a black formal three tier suit.
Bhawani was dressed in a navy blue cotton full sleeved top and a light blue jeans.
Bhargavi had put on the royal blue knee length skater dress, gifted by Prabir.
He was astonished on catching a glimpse of Bhargavi, not because she looked ravishing but because she chose to wear her scars as her best attire, her dress was sleeveless exposing her bruised arms.
Prabir had decided not to take Parul and did not want to leave her alone at home, so Mr. Banerjee had to stay behind.
They walked into a restaurant, led by Prabir who walked in with dignity and grace like that of a king.
