Bright light streamed in through my cracked lids and I flinched. Pain burned in my chest like wild fire, forcing me to take shallow breaths. My eyes fluttered open and for a minute, I had no idea where I was.

"Oh, Miss. Davis, you're awake. I'll call your doctor for you but first some questions." A woman in blue scrubs said.

My eyes flicked to her before dropping to the drip needle stuck in my arm. I started to retch but the nurse was faster, she held a bucket in front of my faca as my stomach heaved up all of it's contents. My ribs screamed in agony and tears stung my eyes. When it was finaly over, I dropped back into the pillows.

"Well, at least I can scratch nausea off the list," she said still holding my puke bucket. After she put the bucket on a small table she grabbed a clipboard, scribbled a few things down and turned back to me. "I did all your checks. Are you feeling any pain right now?"

Was she being for real?

Everything hurt like a bitch but I couldn't find the words to respond, so I just nodded my head.

She clicked her pen and wrote down my answer. "Okay, that's it. The doctor will be with you shortly."

Then, as quickly as she got the puke bucket in my face, she flounced out of the room. The bathroom door quietly opened and I frowned before Lucas poked his head out. "Thank god!" Then he looked back to me. "I thought she'd never leave."

Okay, this has to be a joke.

Lucas walked to my bedside and cupped my cheek. "How are you feeling?"

"Like shit. What happened?" I croaked out.

Lucas sat down in the chair next to my bed and gently took my hand. "You were in an accident."

Memories came flooding back. The shattering glass, the sound of bending metal and snapping branches flicked through my head. And Macy, crumbling the last words of my mom.

My throat grew thick and I choked back a sob. Lucas immediately reached for the pitcher of water and glass on the bedside table. He filled the glass and held it out to me.

I gratefully sipped on the cool liquid, feeling some of the nausea ebb away. When I was done, I handed him the glass and he put it on the bedside table.

"How did they find me?"

Lucas smiled. "Impact alert. The moment your car hit the tree, they sent someone out. Good thing too, you were in the middle of nowhere."

I couldn't help but notice the dark circles around his eyes. His dark bear was longer and his hair stood in every direction. I flicked my gaze away from Lucas. Even now, it pained me to look at him.

"I'm sorry," I said as the first tear fell from my eyes.

Lucas was there in the very next instant, gently pulling my body into his. "Hey, it's okay. The most important thing is that you're okay."

His words only spurred my tears on. Pain sliced through my chest and I sucked a sharp breath.

Lucas jumped back. "Am I hurting you? Do I need to call the doctor?"

I shook my head. "No, no. I'm fine. You know, you don't have to be here."

Luca frowned. "Where else would I be?" He placed a soft kiss on hy hands before I saw his whole body tremble. "Katelyn, I'm sorry if I made you feel like you weren't important to me. The truth is you are one the most important people in my life and I may act like an idiot sometimes. And I may not know how to show it but I swear I'm going to try."

I shook my head and those same tears threatened to spill yeat again. "You don't have to say that just because I had an accident—"

"No. I mean it. And I should have said it a long time ago. I've been a mess since you left, okay? I'm not here because of the accident, I'm here because I care about you. A lot."

I nodded my head but my heart felt like it was going to explode in my chest. He didn't say he loved me but maybe it was a start. And truthfully, I wanted him here.

Lucas sat back down in the chair but he never let go of my hand. I tried to process what happened but I was failing. I could remember the accident and everything before it but after I blacked out, my mind was a clean slate.

"Hey," Lucas said pulling me out of my own mind. "What were you doing out there?"

I searched my mind for the right words, but came up with nothing. I knew going to Macy's was a bad idea and getting upset and crashing my car didn't help matters.

"Chloe told me you found your mom's sister," Lucas said when I didn't reply.

My eyes shifted up to him and filled. "My mom wanted me to give her a letter."

My lips trembled and tears blurred my vision. "She didn't even give me a chance to explain, and I couldn't even tell her my mom was..." I shook my head."I shouldn't have gone there."

"No, you did nothing wrong." Lucas gave my hand a squeeze. "You only did what you thought was right. Did she upset you?"

My eyes dropped to my hands where Lucas intertwined his fingers with mine. "She basically told me to leave and never come back." I shrugged my shoulders lightly. "The only family Michael and I have left."

Lucas cupped my chin and turned my head to face him. "You and Michael have each other. You have me, and a whole lot of people waiting to see you. If she doesn't want to be in your life, Princess, that's her loss."

I looked into Lucas' eyes and felt myself being drawn closer. The door flew open and a portly woman walked into the door.

Her eyes lamded on Lucas before they narrowed to mere slits. "Mr. Rhys! I swear to god, if I find you in here one more time, I'm going to ban you from this hospital."

Lucas flashed me a smile before giving the nurse a mocked hurt look. "What of I need medical attention?"

The woman folded both arms ove rher ample chest. "Oh, you're about to need medical attention."

Lucas snickered before standing up. He cupped my cheeks and placed a kiss on my forehead. " she's probably right, I should go. But I'll definitely come back."

The nurse shook her head as Lucas walked past her, stopping to give her a goofy smile before leaving the room. "That boy will be the death of me."

I laughed before cringing at the tightening in my ribs. "Okay, no laughing."

The nurse smiled and walked to my drip stand, before pulling an injection from the pocket of her scrubs. I immediately tried to move away and shielded both my arms.

"Relax honey, this one goes into your drip," she said, popping the top off and sticking it into the bag hanging by my bed. "It will help with the nausea. Do feel up for a visitor, I know your brother wants to see you."

My eyes went wide as her words penetrated my thoughts. Michael was here!

She raised her brows and pursed her lips. "So, can I send him in?"

I nodded my head. Even if Michael was mad, I still wanted to see my older brother and there was a lot I needed to tell him.

Michael walked in and I had to swallow my tears back. I was just happy to see him. He hag me a hug before sitting down in the chair. "How are you feeling?"

"I wish everyone would stop asking me that."

"You scared a lot of people Kit-Kat."

I clenched my jaw and bit the side of my lip to stop them from trembling. "I know. But I never meant to do that."

Michael frowned. "No one is saying you did it on purpose, Kit. But even you have to admit, this isn't like you at all. You've never even had a fender bender." Michael sighed. "I just want to know what's going on, okay?"

I nodded my head. "Mom had a sister, Macy. I went to see her."

Michael looked shocked but didn't say anything. And I finally came clean, I told him about the letters, about mom's history and how she left. I told him about Macy and why I went there. Michael never interupted me and only listened as I relayed what I had learned.

By the time I had finished, tesrs were streaming down my cheeks. Michael wrapped me in hug. "Hey, don't let this change what Mom meant to us. She made some mistakes, sure but she also raised us. Nothing can or should change that."

"But we have a whole family we know nothing about, Michael?"

Michael gave me a smile. "You're my family, Kit. And even when you drive me crazy you'll still be my family."

"Promise me we'll never be like that. No matter what happens."

Michael laughed. "Kit, you're stuck with me for life."

I finally gave a hug. "Good."

So all this time mom was right. Through her mistakes she learned what was most important in life. The people we shared it with. I breathed a little easier. Because even if she made mistakes, she also did some pretty amazing things and I still loved her.

"So Kit," Michael started, "why didn't you tell me about all this sooner?"

"I got distracted?" I lied through my teeth.

Michael raised one eyebrow. "Yeah, I had a nice chat with your distraction last night."

My eyes went wide. "What?"

"Come on, Kit? I'm not blind."

My cheeks flushed and my mouth gaped open. "I don't know what your talking about."

"Sure," Michael said grinning. "Then you won't care about the nice chat we had last night."

"Nope, not at all," I said but inside, I was dying to know.

"So, when you get out of hospital, can we go home."

I thought about it. I only had one letter left and the house was almost finished but I was somehow not ready to leave yet. Silver Point had grown on me and despite everything that happened, it still felt like home.

I looked at Michael. "You know, there's little more than a month of summer left. And I want to stick it out."

"Kit, at some point, it's going to be time to go home."

I cringed at the final word because for me it felt like I was home. "I know, but what if we stayed? I mean, after everything, no one would begrudge us a little holiday."

"In Silver Point?" Michael asked raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, in Silver Point," I laughed.

Michael sighed. "Why is so damn hard to say no to you?"

"Then don't. Stay. We need to have a little fun sometime. And you can always work from home for a while."

I gave Michael my most pleading eyes and even went as far as jutting out my bottom lip.

He laughed. "Fine you win. But just so you know, I'm going to make it really hard for your boyfriend."

"Oh, I'm counting on it." The words flew out of my mouth faster than I meant. Too late I realized that Michael had caught me.

A devilish grin streched his mouth wide and I groaned. "I just gave myself away, didn't I?"

Michael nodded his head. "Yeah, you did," he said before standing up. "Get some sleep now. You have a lot of people waiting to see you."

"Shouldn't you get some sleep too?" I asked as Michael walked to the door.

"No need. You're friend Chloe has been keeping everyone in the waiting room caffeinated."

I laughed and said goodbye to Michael. Soon, I was drifting off to sleep, feeling much lighter than when I first woke up.
