Chapter 62 Paralyzing fear

Lamech

-----

"No!" I yelled and disregarded all else as I ran to Crimson. I pushed vampires, wolves, and rouges alike aside as I made my way forward. Everything gone from my mind, except her. When I reached her, she was on her knees, the rouge, that was bigger than her, still on her. I grabbed the rouge by its neck, my nails extended to claws and made blood gush out as I threw it away from her. Then I caught her in my arms and pressed her to me.

There were deep wounds in her chest from the rouges teeth and blood flowed out of it and there were equally horrific wounds by her shoulder blades. I tore my shirt off my body and tried to stop the bleeding with it, but in a second it was drenched in blood and the bleeding was far from ceasing. Her body shivered and her eyes slowly closed.

"Crimson! Please Crimson! Look at me!" I yelled at her, needing to know that she was still there, to get some sign that could calm my paralyzing fear just a little.

Her eyes opened again and found mine. She opened her mouth as if to say something, her lips trembled and another wave of terror consumed me as blood was all that came out of her mouth.

"Don't talk. Save your energy. Just stay with me, alright? Stay with me, Crimson," I told her as I bent her forward, to ensure she wouldn't choke on the blood. I didn't think that she was aware of anything but I kept talking to her as I held her close, unable to get her away from there and to safety with the battle still raging on.

In a part of my mind, I could hear the furious voices of the vampires around us.

"Fucking bastards!"

"How dare they!"

"Kill them all!"

They shouted through the mind-link and then came the confused voices, the ones that didn't know.

"What happened?"

"Crimson!" voices shouted. "They hurt Crimson."

At that the furious shouts in my head increased ten-folded. They screamed out their anger, cursing heaven, earth, and hell.

But none of that mattered to me, and though I heard them loud and clear, I also didn't. My focus was on the woman in my arms as I prayed to the Goddess of the night that she would survive.

The fighting came to a sudden halt around me. Confused I looked up to notice that all the rouges were dead on the ground and seventy or so pairs of red eyes were focused on me and Crimson.

I got to my feet. My legs shook, but I still felt firm and resolute, ready to take her away from that horrific place. Darren ran through the dead bodies, pulling a pair of pants on as he went, a sign of that he had just shifted back to human form.

"Fuck!" he exclaimed and froze for a moment, before getting into action. "Get Carter to the packhouse!" he yelled off to the side and then to me: "Lamech, come with me!"

I ran behind him, held Crimson tightly to me but also gently to not harm her further. I felt like we moved far too slow, I needed to get Crimson out of there. Needed her to be in safety. Needed... Needed her to be alive and well.

I couldn't remember a time when I had been as terrified as I was then. I had no idea of how badly she was wounded. I wasn't even able to slow down enough to listen and hear if she still breathed, if she still had a pulse. All I could do was hold her tight, make sure that no more harm could come to her.

We got to a house and into a room on the bottom floor. It was equipped like an emergency room and I went over to the bed and gingerly laid her down on it. But I kept close. Held onto her hand with mine and had the other arm over her body in a desperate attempt to protect her from what had already happened.

"Lamech. A doctor is here. You need to let go of her and step away so she can examine Crimson," a voice said but it all just sounded absurd to me.

I let out a growl. Warned whoever had spoken. Let go of her? Step away? Neither was things that I had any inclination of doing.

"You have to move away. Let go of her so Carter can help her," the voice said and I felt a hand on my shoulder.

I let out a louder growl and hit the hand away, but the next thing I knew I was pulled away from Crimson.

"We'll deal with him. Just make sure Crimson is okay," someone said as two set of hands pushed and pulled me away from Crimson. I fought against them. Clawed and snarled. I needed to be back by her side.

They got me out of the room, but I kept on struggling, doing everything to get back in there.

Finally my body slammed into the wall. Someone held me forcefully against it with an iron grip on my hands behind my back. I continued to try to get away, but didn't manage.

Alair came into my line of sight. I could see his eyes brimming with worry.

"You need to calm down, Lamech," he told me. "You can't do anything for her now. You have to let the doctor help her."

I growled at him and kept trying to get loose.

"Trust Crimson," Alair continued. "She's strong. So trust her. She's going to be alright."

I stopped struggling. The words finally sunk in. Stuart, that had been the one holding onto me, let go and unable to keep still, I started pacing outside the room. As I paced, I kept on praying to the Goddess of the night. I prayed for Crimson to be fine and promised whatever was necessary in return.

I felt sick to my stomach with anxiety and fear, something that wasn't helped by the scent of Crimson's blood that was all over me. That scent that usually was wonderful to me, now was sickening. It was too much of it and it was a nagging, constant reminder of that I might lose her.

After what felt like days, the doctor exited the room. I didn't let her speak before I went pass her and back to Crimson's side.

All blood looked to have been cleaned off her, at least where I could see, but she was pale. Her upper body covered in bandages. But two things registered to me that made the panicked fear withdraw. Her chest rose and fell. She breathed and she still had a heartbeat.

"She's damn strong," a female voice said behind me and I turned to look at the doctor. "I've never seen someone heal as fast as she is. And that's saying something. Us shifters aren't exactly slow healers. I would expect her to be on her feet, almost as good as new, in a day. Maybe shorter. Just keep an eye out for signs of an infection."

I nodded and managed a thank you, before turning back to Crimson. I pulled over a chair to her side and settled myself in, not planning on leaving her until she was awake again. If ever.
