3: Berk is Pitch Black

Hiccup watched Jack as he walked over to Elsa and leaned against his staff, "Thanks for that, Snowflake."

Elsa smiled slightly and leaned in close to him. It looks almost as if she was going to kiss him. What is she doing? This is not like her. She whispered in his ear just loud enough for everyone to hear, "No problem, Snowflake." Rapunzel giggled as Elsa suddenly pulled away and walked over to her to help with breakfast.

Hiccup examined Jack as he stared at Elsa. He needs to snap out of it before Elsa notices that he likes her. He walked over to Jack and smacked him in the back of the head.

"Ow! Hey, what was that for!" Jack glared at him.

Hiccup's eyes darted to Elsa and Rapunzel to make sure they aren't listening to the conversation. Merida was just behind them, fiddling with her bow and not paying attention. "You might not want to make it that obvious," he told Jack quietly.

"What are you talking about?" He asked.

He rolled his eyes and talked to him in a low voice, trying to not draw any attention to them, "You like El--"

North burst through the doors of the suite, "Pitch is in Berk!"

Berk? Why in the name of the Gods does he have to threaten people where I live? Wait, Astrid! "What? Why Berk?" Hiccup shouted.

"No clue. We leave now," North answered bluntly. The five, and Toothless, all quickly followed him out the door as he practically jogged down the hallway.

Hiccup couldn't stop thinking about Astrid, but knowing her, she would be perfectly fine, if not enjoying herself. She'd love to help them kill some nightmares.

Jack explained more about Pitch last night and this morning, including the nightmares Pitch created.

He saw how Jack got excited when they enter a room that was bustling with noise from the elves and yetis. "Do we get to take the sleigh?" Jack asked with wide eyes and a gigantic smile.

Bunny, Tooth, and Sandy entered the already crowded room. "No, no! Please not the sleigh?" Bunny pleaded.

"Yes, we are taking sleigh," North responded as a red sleigh being pulled by eight strong reindeer came out of doors on the opposite side of the room.

"I'll take the tunnels, mate. They're quicker... and safer," Bunny gulped. North ignored him, picked him up and placed him on the sleigh. He motioned for Hiccup to come next but he shook his head.

"I'm good riding on Toothless," he said as all the others hopped in the sleigh. He mounted Toothless and heard Bunny mumble something about not everyone loving the sleigh. Elsa, Rapunzel, and Bunny appeared to be nervous while Merida, Jack, Tooth, and Sandy looked excited. North was acting like it was just any other day as he grabbed the reins and took off through an icy tunnel.

Toothless and Hiccup followed behind them. He laugh at Rapunzel, Merida, and Jack who looked like they were having the time of their lives. The sleigh did a loop-di-loop and Bunny covered his mouth with his paws, trying to hold back his vomit.

"Hope you all like carrots!" Bunny shouted.

Jack just laughed at him.

Hiccup looked ahead to see the end of the tunnel. The sleigh took off into the sky and he and Toothless flew next to it.

Jack stood on the back of the sleigh, "Guys look at this v-- Ahhhhhhh." He fell off of the sleigh but landed on the skis near the back.

Elsa and Bunny gasped. They turned around to see Jack lounging on the skis. Jack laughed, "I can't believe you fell for that again, Kangaroo."

He climbed back into the sleigh and Elsa shoved him angrily. "Don't do that ever again," She scolded.

Hiccup noticed Merida and Rapunzel as they smirked when Elsa said that. Elsa and Jack seem to have a thing for each other so Hiccup decided to do something to show it.

Unfortunately before he could go through with it, North threw a snowglobe that turned out to be some type of portal... at least Hiccup thought that's what it was. He slowed down as the sleigh disappeared into it. "Now or never, Bud," he told the dragon. Toothless flew through the portal and they saw Berk. Or what Hiccup thought was Berk anyway.

It was the dead of night. The buildings looked like what they did two years ago, before the Vikings befriended the dragons. Some were on fire while others were burnt to the ground. Few were standing. Villagers were running through the town with buckets of water, while dragons were laying on the fires, trying to put them out.

Hiccup spotted Astrid and Stormfly along with the twins, Tuffnut and Ruffnut, on Barf and Belch near the edge of town. He flew down to them without bothering to see if the sleigh followed them. "Astrid, what's going on?"

She spun around with a surprised and angry expression when he landed and ran up to her, "Hiccup? Where have you been?" She slapped him across the face, "That's for disappearing on us." Pain stung his cheek. Then she kissed him, "That's for everything else." She then wrapped her strong arms around him and rested her head on his shoulder. Hiccup put his arms around her as well. "Where were you, Hiccup?" She asked again.

He pulled away to look in her eyes, "I'm sorry, but it's a really long story that I don't have time for right now. I'll tell you later, I promise." She nodded her head, "Now tell me what happened here."

Her eyes widened in fear, which was strange for Astrid because she was rarely afraid of anything. "There was this black sand everywhere. It drove the dragons crazy! They started firing at the sand and started almost all of the buildings on fire. We've been trying to put it out for hours!"

"Is there still black sand anywhere?"

"Most of it crowded in the stables," She replied.

"Hiccup!" North yelled as the sleigh landed two feet away from Hiccup and Astrid. Everyone got out of the sleigh, "Where are the nightmares?" North questioned.

"He really does 'ave a girlfriend," Merida's eyes were widened in shock. "I though' tha' the wee lad was jus' messin' with us."

"Nightmares, as in bad dreams?" Astrid looked at me curiously.

"She's smart," Jack commented, floating on his staff above them. Hiccup glared at him and he flew over to the others.

Hiccup realized his arms were still wrapped around Astrid but he moved them to her shoulders, almost pushing her away, to make sure she listened to what he was about to say.

"The black sand you saw, it's magic sand that turns into nightmares and tries to bring out your fears. I need your help, okay?" He didn't wait for her to respond, "I need you to gather everyone in the middle of town and tell them to grab any weapons and all the dragons they can find. Tell my dad to meet us at the main gate of the stables in about fifteen minutes and that any of these nightmares they see... they need to kill immediately. Tell them not to bother putting out the fires until all the black sand is gone. Destroying the black sand is our top priority. Got it?"

She smiled, "Yes." He let go of her and walked to the Guardians without another word. "Hiccup, wait!" He spun around to see Astrid running toward him. When she reached him, the impact almost knocks him over. She hugged him tightly and he squeezed her back. I never want to let you go but I know I have to. She moved her lips to his and kiss him passionately. "I love you... so please don't do any thing too stupid or crazy," She whispered in his ear. That's the first time she's said she loves me, Hiccup smiled to himself.

He gave a small laugh, "I love you too. And I'll try not."

Astrid' s arms dropped to he sides. "Go," She commanded before going to gather the people. He watched her until she disappeared behind one of the flaming houses.

"We need to go to the stables," He directed North. "Astrid said that's where all the sand is. We're going to close all the doors, then open up the main gate in fifteen minutes. The vikings will be ready to help us kill as many of the nightmares as we can." Toothless quickly ran ahead of them to the stables. "This way," Hiccup lead them to the right. "The stables are near the arena where we train the dragons."

"What exactly are we doing again?" Elsa asked as she caught up with Hiccup. He could tell by the way her eyebrows creased that she didn't like the idea of killing things. Then again, he never did either.

"Something stupid and crazy," He paused before adding, "You don't like hurting things, do you?"

She chuckled awkwardly, "Long story short... no."

They were almost to the dragon stables, "What do you mean long story?" He couldn't help but ask.

Her gaze shifted downward, "I'll tell all of you when the time is right. But that time isn't now." They reached the main gate of the stables. Elsa traded the sadness in her voice for confidence in the blink of an eye, "What do you want us to do?"

Hiccup faced all of them now, "Elsa and Jack take the doors on the left...and freeze them shut, to be on the safe side. You two will then freeze all the other ones on everywhere else as well," You're welcome, Jack he thought.

"Rapunzel and Tooth take the doors on the right. Merida and Bunny take the ones in the back. North and Sandy take any that are open on the top. Toothless and I will close any in the front including the main gate. Meet in front of the main gate when you are done."

Bunny opened up a tunnel in the ground that he and Merida jumped down. Tooth and Rapunzel quickly sprinted to the right while Jack and Elsa ran to the left. Sandy created a plane made of dream sand that he and North got into and flew to the top in.

Hiccup hopped on Toothless and they quickly checked the two doors that are on the front wall. Both are open so they quickly shut them and headed to the main gate. This always took longer than the others because it's gigantic. the door took up almost the entire five story wall.

Hiccup had Toothless grab onto the chains with his teeth and pull. By the time the gate was almost closed the others had returned from closing all the doors and almost all of the vikings were gathered on their dragons. Everyone was waiting for the gate to open and for fear itself come bursting out.

"How much longer, mate?" Bunny inquired as the gate finally closed.

"Minute thirty seconds," Hiccup answered.

He searched through the crowd for Astrid and saw her right in the front next to his dad. He ran to her and kissed her again. At fist she was surprised but then her arms snaked around his neck. "Love you," he told her then quickly bolted up to the gate again.

Hiccup could just barely hear her shout through all the noise the dragons' wings made, "Love you too!" That's twice in one day.

"No need to rub it in," Jack frowned to his left.

Jack's staff was aimed at the gate. Elsa was behind him, her arms held up in an uncertain defensive position, yet Hiccup somehow knew that she was ready to strike. Rapunzel was holding her hair in her left hand and a frying pan in the right. Wait when and why did she get a frying pan? Merida aimed her bow at the gate as well. Bunny held his boomerangs and Sandy his whips, while Tooth awkwardly flew above them. North was standing next to the chains with his swords, ready to chop them at his signal.

Hiccup smirked at Jack and his jealousy over him not having girlfriend. He got on Toothless and raised my hand for North to cut the chain with his swords.

The second the gate fell, he saw hundreds of nightmares that he wasn't not sure if he was ready to fight.
