23: Now Run Along
"Boo." Pitch said.
Jack watched in horror as nightmares began attacking them left and right. He swung his staff and jumped around, slashing and freezing the nightmares.
He looked to his right and saw Jamie and his friends cowering behind a pile of toys. He ran to them but a nightmare blocked his path.
An arrow shot through the beast. "Yer welcome!" Merida yelled from above.
"Thank you!"
Jack rushed over to the kids. "Jack!" Jamie cried, hugging him.
"Hey kid." He no longer had to kneel down to look the thirteen year old in the eyes. "I need you guys to get to North's office and lock the door. No matter what happens don't open it until one of us comes to get you."
"But we want to help!" Jamie argued. The battle around them went on. Guardians and nightmares fighting one another.
"I can't let you. People still believe in us, so we're strong enough to fight on our own this time." He waved for Jamie's friends to go to the office already so he could have a moment alone with Jamie. They nodded And ran out of the room.
Jack smiled, "We'll be fine--" there was a loud bang "--I need you to look after your friends though. If any nightmares find you...well, you know what to do." He ruffled the child's hair and pointed in the direction of the others. "Now go," he demanded seriously.
"I'll see you soon," Jamie said before scurrying off as well.
Jack smiled then ran in the direction of the battle, hitting nightmares with his staff. He saw Elsa and Rapunzel were standing back to back; Elsa froze them then Rapunzel hit them, shattering them into millions of pieces for good measure. North was slaying them with his swords, Kangaroo with boomerangs, Sandy with whips. Tooth frantically flew around, punching them...which made Jack chuckle despite what was going on around him.
"Oi, Jack!"
He looked up and saw Merida and Hiccup riding Toothless. Hiccup was commanding the dragon to fire at the nightmares while Merida rotated in the saddle, shooting the stealthily dark creatures that surrounded them.
"We need sum 'elp up 'ere!"
Gripping his staff tightly, he flew up to the top of the globe. He stood there for a moment, taking everything in. He was going to try to freeze the black sand, but it was like a hurricane in the workshop. There was no way he'd be able to do it all on his own.
He needed Elsa.
Jack searched through chaos of the battle for the platinum blonde, spotting her still next to Rapunzel. He quickly flew to them and landed in front of them right before a nightmare was about to attack. He shot it with ice then turned to Elsa. He was so close to her that her felt her breath on his neck.
"I need your help."
"With what?" She tilted her head to the right and shot at a nightmare that was charging at Jack.
"What do you think." He glared at her.
"We can't leave Rapunzel alone--"
"I'll be fine, just go!" Rapunzel yelled as she crushed a nightmare with her frying pan.
Elsa smirked, "Then let it snow." Jack scooped her up in his arms and took to the air. As they made their way to the globe again, Elsa froze the nightmares midair so that they would shatter when they hit the ground.
Jack landed on the top of the globe, and despite not wanting to let Elsa go, he set her on her feet. He watched Elsa's worried expression.
"How are we going to kill all of these, Jack?"
"Um..." Jack really didn't know. Something in the back of his head told him that he would need Elsa's help, but he didn't know how he would get her help.
"Jack?"
"We still need help up here!" Hiccup yelled from above as he and Merida flew past with nightmares on their tail.
Jack was stressed. He didn't know what to do. Did he ever? He thought he had some sort of plan, but that seemed to have failed miserably. Hopeless, he looked up to the moon, and for once...it answered him.
Take her hand and focus all your power to the nightmares. When you feel it's the right time, freeze them. Freeze them all.
Jack smiled, "Thank you, Máni."
"Jack?" Elsa grabbed his hand, holding it tightly. "I'm scared, what do we do?"
He grabbed her waist and pulled her closer to him, almost so that their noses were touching. He gazed into her cyaneous eyes, "We're going to have a little fun."
Leaning his forehead against hers, Jack held both of her hands--while still gripping his staff--and closed his eyes. He repeated the moon's words, "Focus all your energy on your powers. When it feels right, you'll know what to do."
Jack could feel everything around him. He felt the spark of Elsa's skin against his. He could feel the battle surging around them. The fighting guardians. The yetis and elves who fought like warriors. The fear-feeding nightmares. And the Nightmare King. Each had a signature energy.
His brow furrowed as he tried harder to pinpoint his focus on the darker energies of the nightmares and Pitch. He forced himself to get ready for the blast of energy that was building up inside him, ready to explode.
Right when he couldn't take it anymore, he felt Elsa squeeze his hands tighter.
Jack opened his eyes. At precisely the same time he and Elsa lifted the staff and slammed it hard on the tip of the globe.
Ice blasted throughout the room, encasing nightmares in a thick sheet. Nightmares that were in the air fell to the ground and shattered. Silence filled the room. But it wasn't the comfortable sort. It was the waiting-for-what-comes-next sort of silence. Jack's eyes darted in every direction, searching.
Hiccup, Merida, Tooth, and Sandy hovered above the globe. Rapunzel, North, and Bunny scanning the frozen figures on the ground. None of which was Pitch.
A voice boomed from the rafters, causing everyone to look up.
"You really thought it would be that easy?" Pitch chuckled ironically. "There is much more than that." An evil that Jack had never seen before shone in Pitch's golden eyes. "You can't defeat me! You may have foiled my plans of bringing darkness to the world at the moment...but that doesn't mean I can't kill you then do that."
More nightmares flew into the room, attacking.
"Jack, what do we do?" Elsa asked, holding even tighter onto his hand.
"Jamie," Jack whispered. He paused, the idea was almost to obvious, "Jamie!" He laughed, "That's it! We need to get Jamie and the others, come on."
"What? Jack, they'll only get hurt, they're kids!" Elsa argued, she was angry with him.
"No, no, you don't understand. Children are the nightmares' weakness, that's how we defeated them last time."
"Then what are we waiting for?"
"Nothing. I'll distract Pitch while you get to North's office where they're hidden. Bring them back here, under the globe, and make sure you're not seen." Elsa nodded and turned to walk away. Something panged in Jack's chest, "And, Elsa!" She spun around, "I love you."
"I love you too," She smiled.
Jack flew away as soon as she ran up the stairs. Pitch was floating on a cloud of nightmares above the fight. "Pitch!" He shouted as he flew towards him. But he wasn't just flying near him, he never slowed down.
Pitch jerked around just in time for Jack tackled him out of the sky. Jack held onto him tightly as the two sped toward the ground. Right before the slammed into the floor, Jack pulled up. Pitch didn't have enough time to do the same.
"Jack!" Rapunzel called.
Jack spun around and looked where Rapunzel was pointing. Elsa had the children under the globe. Without thinking about Pitch, who lay unconscious on the ground, Jack walked over to them.
"So you need our help now?" Jamie teased.
He smiled, "You know what to do. Now run along!"
Jamie, Pippa, Monte, Caleb, Claude, and Cupcake charged for the nightmares.

Hello Guardians!
This will be a semi long A/N? So this took so long because 1) I wanted to torture you all with that last cliffhanger 2) I HAD A BRILLIANT IDEA THEN FORGOT IT 3) I HAD WRITTEN IT, THEN IT GOT DELETED >:( and 4) because I had terrible writers block. Which I still have...so that's why this chapter sucks. I'm sorry for being such a terrible author lately :( I hope you at least liked it a little bit? Maybe? VOTE FOR THE SHIPS! This book is almost over, therefore I will have made up my mind in about...2-3 chapters (I think?), for what the ships will forevermore be in the rest of this series. Mericcup 53--Hiccstrid 42. Y'all know who I'm rooting for...if not...WOW...You need to pay better attention :p
Keep reading,
PrincessSelene04
P.s. "Let it go" totally came on my Pandora station when I was writing this chapter. How ironic, right?
