22: Get You Home
Rapunzel had been silently sobbing for a few minutes. She was never going to see the floating lights. She would never meet her real parents. She would never get married, or have children, or do a million other things that she couldn't even bare to think of because it was just too depressing for her. She wanted so nothing more than to have a life outside of her tower, but now that she got it, look where she ended up.
The room started getting colder again, causing her to shiver even more. "Els-sa c-can you c-calm down?"
"What? That's not me." Elsa's eyes landed on Jack and she sighed, "What are you doing?"
"Just wait for it." Jack answered.
Well that wasn't really an answer Rapunzel thought. "What do you mean, Ja--?"
Right then the shackles around her wrists and ankles shattered. It wasn't only the ones around her, the cuffs that once restrained Jack and Elsa had also exploded into ice shards that now lay on the floor.
"Time to go." Jack jumped off the table and reached in his pocket. Out of it came one of North's snowglobes, which he whispered to then through on the floor.
Rapunzel was overwhelmed with joy. She wasn't going to die! She was going to meet her real parents, and get married, and have children! She was going to have a happy and fulfilling life when this was all over!
She ran to the portal and jumped through, Elsa and Jack on her trail. The bitter cold bit into her as her feet crunched into the snow, but she didn't care. She was free. "Cold! Cold!Cold!"
Elsa and Jack chuckled.
"Oi! Undar 'ere!"
Rapunzel searched through the night for Merida. She got scared as she spotted a long dark figure moving...but it was only Toothless. The dragon sat behind a gigantic pine tree.
"Guys, hurry before Pitch comes looking for you!" Hiccup hissed.
Jack took Elsa by the waist and they flew up to the top of the tree. Rapunzel sighed and crawled under the canopy of the tree. She ended up at Hiccup's right, Merida on the other side of him.
"So what exactly are we doing?" Elsa shouted from above, her silent voice barely audible.
Rapunzel questioned further, "Yeah what is the plan?"
"Jack you take Elsa! We'll take Rapunzel!" Hiccup shouted back. The wind whipped around, causing her teeth to chatter. "Here." Hiccup handed her a thick blanket that she wrapped around herself, also rolling her hair around her body for extra insulation.
"So..."
Merida elbowed Hiccup in the ribs, "Ow!" He cried rubbing his side. "I get it...The plan is to sneak into Pitch's lair and find his time machine. We'll then go back to North's so that Tooth can come with us through the portal to take you back, and later change your memories, once we get to Corona four years ago."
"That's it? But what about Pitch? Didn't Máni say we have to defeat him together?"
"Dat's all ya need ta werry about lass."
Rapunzel wasn't sure about this. Shouldn't they do what Máni told them to? What would happen if they didn't? The answer seemed simple enough: people would get hurt.
"I don't think this is a good idea."
"He's coming!" Jack shouted from above.
The five quietly watched as Pitch angrily flew out from beneath the bedframe. Night mares trailed at his sides as he sped south--probably heading for the Tooth Palace.
"Alright. Let's go." Hiccup, Merida, and Rapunzel crawled out from under the thick branches of the tree. Jack flew down with Elsa in his arms then set her on her feet.
"Uh...Snowflake?" Jack asked.
Elsa giggled a bit at the nickname, "Yes Frosty?"
"We're going to be doing a lot of running today, you may not want to wear something you can trip over."
Rapunzel looked at Elsa's poofy white dress. Although the gown was flowy, it did strike Rapunzel as being hard to run in.
"Your probably right." Elsa waved her hands, transforming the dress. The skirt was now skin tight and shorter, reaching just above her knees. It was still white and had long sleeves. Her shoes had changed too. Instead of wearing intricate icy heels, she was wearing simple, snowy flats.
"I wish I could do that." Rapunzel murmured in awe.
Elsa shrugged, "It's both a gift and a curse."
"Ar we goin' er not?" Merida groaned.
"We are! Gods calm yourself, Mer!" Hiccup snapped, annoyed by Merida's impatience. "Elsa and Rapunzel need snowglobes..." He muttered under his breath, taking two snowglobes out of the bag on Toothless's back and handing them to the the two. "In case we get caught, go to North's as soon as possible."
"Let's go!" Merida yelled anxiously again.
Hiccup sighed, "You four go down the hole, I have to take a portal down with Toothless."
"Alright who's first?" Jack asked.
"Me!" Merida hopped down the hole without another word.
Rapunzel didn't actually want to go next and she had no idea what was waiting for her at the bottom. However, her feet had a different plan. She walked over to the hole and casually stepped into it. Darkness engulfed her and she screamed. She felt weightless as she fell for what seemed like hours.

Rapunzel roamed the dark halls with Hiccup and Jack. It had been about twenty minutes since they broke into groups to search around Pitch's cave.
Jack opened a door on the left as she and Hiccup kept walking in the direction of different doors.
"Hey Hicc? I think I found it."
Rapunzel sprinted in Jack's direction. She was excited that they may finally get out of this creepy place.
Just like all the others they had looked in, this room had walls and floors of dark, cracked stone. Rapunzel made out a figure sitting on a podium in the middle of the room. It looked like a...
"Time snowglobe," Hiccup said unamused. "Pitch really needs to get more creative."
"Let's take it, find Elsa and Merida, then get out of here."
"Jack wait!" Hiccup tried stopping him but Jack continued quickly walking into the room. He picked it up and walked back out.
Jack smirked triumphantly, "What? Nothing happ--" Just then the three heard a click, "--ened," Jack's face fell.
"Run!" Hiccup screamed. Hiccup and Rapunzel jumped onto Toothless, who started running--the ceilings were too low for him to fly--Jack flying beside them. They raced down the corridors, retracing their steps to find Elsa and Merida. Behind them they could hear the floor cracking and crumbling. "Faster, Toothless! Come on! Jack fly ahead, and find the others!"
"On it!"
Rapunzel's mind buzzed with everything around her. She just got out of a hopeless situation now she was in another one. She gripped Hiccup's waist tightly when they came to a sudden stop. "What?"
"Elsa open a portal!"
Rapunzel watched in a blur as Elsa threw the snowglobe. There was yelling for a few seconds but then Hiccup directed everyone through.
Rapunzel was still running when she got through the portal. She didn't see Bunny right in front of her, and ended up bumping into him. "Hey!"
"Sorry Bunny!"
The tall rabbit looked menacing at first but then he smiled. "It's alright, Sheila. You've been through a lot lately."
"Yeah, let's get you home." Tooth agreed.
"Jack do you have it?" Elsa inquired.
Jack took the snowglobe put of his pocket, "Yep." He threw it on the ground.
Rapunzel was sad and excited to go back. She was sad because she would lose all her memories of this place, and never see these people again...Well except maybe Elsa since she was her cousin. But she wouldn't remember that. She was excited because she was going to get away from Pitch.
But there was another feeling in there too: worry. She had a gut feeling that that something was about to go terribly wrong.
"Corona, four years ago." Jack smashed the globe to the ground, the portal showing her tower.
"Where do you think you're going?"
It turned out that voice in Rapunzel's head was right because Pitch was now standing directly in front of them.
