Chapter 18

Finally! Finally, they had made some progress. Eleanor just messaged Spencer and told him that Alex liked the first part of their draft.

He smiled. This was finally happening. The first draft that he and Eleanor made together was becoming a reality.

Smiling he looked outside, it was snowing. He never liked the snow. But, today, he had an urge. An urge to go outside. An urge to eat in a restaurant.

He was getting better now. He didn't have panic attacks anymore. He still got nightmares but it was also getting better slowly.

He took his fur coat from the hanger and put it on. He went out to eat in his favourite restaurant. At least, once, it was his favourite restaurant.

Spencer stopped infront of the restaurant. He remembered Mike. He loved the noodles of this place. He was always close with Mike. Mike was the only person who could challenge Spencer's guts. He was his best buddy. Yet, today, he was not with him.

Shaking his thoughts, he entered the restaurant. The place was over-crowded. He looked around and saw young group of people gossiping and laughing. Wait, young? He was young too. Just because he was 29 doesn't mean that he was an old man.

He looked around and saw all the seats were filled up. The waiter came to him and apologised because the restaurant was house full.

Spencer didn't know what to say. Rubbing the back of his neck, he simply nodded. With his other hand, he signed and muttered a quiet "OK." But, suddenly he heard someone ,"Spencie!"

He swiftly moved his head in that direction. Who on earth called him Spencie? What kind of name is that? He desperately hoped that he was mistaken. The voice had called someone else and not him. But, alas! He saw the person waving at him and realised that it was none other than Penny.

Spencer frowned and raised his eyebrows. Penny called the waiter and whispered something to him. The waiter nodded and returned to Spencer. Giving Spencer a warm smile, the waiter said,"Your friend is sitting there. You can join her."

Penny was sitting in a two seated table. The other seat was empty. Spencer did not want to join her. He wanted to run away. He was not in a good mood and she was the last person he wanted to see. But, Penny was giving him a huge smile. He found it suspicious but as he was a kind soul, he decided to join her anyways. He can always question his life decisions later.

He took a seat. The waiter handed him the menu. He couldn't decide what to order and stared at the menu. Penny rolled her eyes and said,"Just give him today's special, I am sure he will love it." Spencer raised his eyebrows. Really? She ordered his food without asking him. But, he didn't say anything as deep down he was thankful for this.

The food was served after some time. Spencer was eating his food silently until he realised Penny was looking at him. Being annoyed, he put his spoon aside and stared at her. "Do you have anything to say?"

Grinning she replied,"Yes. So, Eleanor submitted the First Draft of the first ten chapters to me and guess what?" He raised his eyebrows. "Alex accepted it."

Spencer was genuinely happy. He smiled. "That's great. Finally, some progress has been made."

Penny had finished eating already. But, Spencer kept eating his food. Suddenly,Penny said,"When you signed the deal, did you read all the clauses?" Without looking at her, he nodded.

"Well then, you must know that dating Eleanor is forbidden." Spencer almost choked on his food. He asked her in a bit louder tone,"Where did this come from?"

Penny leaned back on her chair folding her hands. She gave a sly smile. "I mean, I know Eleanor is pretty and all. Even though, her personality is a big turn off for anyway."

He protested,"I think her personality is alright."

Penny laughed tauntingly."Ohh~~ defending her now! That's cute. But honestly, trust me do not make a move on her. I don't want to handle Alex. He doesn't like when things get unprofessional. In fact, all the employees under him have a No-dating policy."

Ignoring whatever Penny said, Spencer asked,"What made you think we are dating?"

Penny replied,"You two were at the park the other day. I mean night or evening. Whatever! You get my point, right?"

Being suspicious, he asked," I thought no one visited the park at the hour."

Spencer was sure that he saw pain in Penny's eyes. Her voice changed. "Well, it's not like only Eleanor knows about the park..I think, Noah told her about it. Me and Noah used to go there often, when we were dating. I still go there to refresh my mind sometimes."

He hadn't expected her to outright confess that she and Noah dated. "So, you two are not together anymore. I was pretty sure.."

She interrupted him. "There's nothing between us now. He ruined things."

The waiter served both of them coffee.

No one spoke anything for next few moments. The silence was killing him. So, he decided to ask Penny about the Fashion Magazine she had. "What's this?"

This time Penny's eyes sparkled. She smiled,"Oh, I am trying to get in this Fashion Magazine company. Once, you and Eleanor finish the story and I get my paycheck, I will have enough money to apply here."

He nodded.

She continued speaking,"This reminds me, there's not enough romantic scenes in the book yet."

Spencer sighed,"Well, Eleanor doesn't like writing those scenes."

She suggested,"Why don't you write an amusement park scene or something?"

Spencer took a sip of his coffee. "I am not the writer. Moreover, I can't draw amusement park scenes. I haven't been to one lately."

She looked at him in disbelief,"What? Really? Gosh, you are such a buzzkill! Never mind, I think you have a chance to visit. I saw the sales department doing a lottery kind of thing for the interns. Your brother John is an intern, right?"

He nodded again.

"That's great! If he wins , you can go with him to the amusement park. It's an '1+1' offer."

Spencer didn't reply and focused on his coffee. It did sound like a good idea. Now, the problem was whether John wins the trophy or not. Even if John wins, will he agree to take him? It made much more sense for John to take Amelia.

Suddenly, his phone vibrated. It was a message from Eleanor. Before he could reply, Penny got up from her seat. He noticed now that she had finished eating.

"Listen to me, Spencer. I may not like Eleanor that much but I do care about her. But, I care about my job too. So, please don't start something with her as it can get me in trouble." She didn't wait for him to reply and left.

Spencer was astonished. Just how selfish a person could be? He didn't like Eleanor, not it that way at least. But, he did find her to be a sweet person who he could take to. Let's say, he found comfort in her. His mood was totally ruined because of Penny.

He decided to check Eleanor's message later. He went home being irritated.

Going to his room, he took his sketchbook out and started drawing. After sometime, the bell rang. He opened the door and saw John.

He was taken aback after seeing John's appearance. It had been snowing for a while. John's hair was totally messed up. This entire attire was covered with snow. His usual smile was gone.

John didn't say anything and quietly removed his brother from the doorway. Spencer called his name but he didn't say anything.

John slowly walked towards him room. He put his hand on the doorknob and was about to open the door when he looked at Spencer. He put his other hand in his pocket and showed Spencer two tickets.

In a sad voice, he said,"I won tickets to the amusement park. Will you go with me?"

Spencer nodded but didn't say anything. John gave him a sad smile and entered his room.

John was the jolly sibling among the two of them. He always had a smile on his face. Spencer remembered the time when a bully had hit John. John didn't say anything instead he kept smiling. In fact, he had requested Spencer not to do anything. He didn't do anything... nothing that John knew of. He might have broken that bully's nose but John didn't know that till date.

The problem with John was- no matter how hurt he was ,he managed to hide it. But, today was different. It was visible that he was hurt. Sighing Spencer opened his phone to check Eleanor's message.

Something's wrong with John.
He refused to play today and he             didn't give any good reason for that.
This never happens.

Spencer looked at the time. Eleanor had sent this message when he was in the restaurant. Then, he noticed another message. It was delivered 2 minutes ago.

You free? Screw that! I am calling you.

He became startled when his phone rang. The Called ID flashed on the screen Eleanor.

Author's note: Gather around, people! It's our fan- favourite John's time to shine.
