What Are You Hiding?
Tango's Perspective-
Tango walked out of his tent and gasped as he saw Davien sitting near the tent, whittling at a piece of wood.
"Oh! You're up." Davien put the wood and carving tool in his bag and smiled at Tango.
"Er- yeah. What are you doing here?"
"Gem asked me to help you get settled in. Well, she asked Grian to, but since Grian didn't want to, he asked me. So now I'm here!"
Tango raised an eyebrow, confused by this small rant first thing in the morning.
"Don't worry about it. Just...uh- how are you doing?"
"I'm okay."
"Did you sleep well? Are you liking your new tent?"
"Yeah, it's alright."
Davien nodded, smiling.
Tango smiled nervously and they stood in silence before Davien cleared his throat.
"Umm...so...wanna do some crafts with me?"
"Er- I'm not good at crafting."
"It's nothing much, just carving wood. You can make statues and stuff." Davien opened his bag and pulled out the little figure he was carving.
"No thanks, I just- "
"Just give it a shot! It's really not that hard."
"Uh- no I actually needed to ask Gem something."
"What were you going to ask her? Maybe I can help."
"Oh...I was just going to ask her what hybrid I was."
"That's easy! You're a fire hybrid. Didn't you say that yesterday?"
"O-oh, yeah right."
"Why? Are you worried about something with your fire?"
"No, I was just..." Tango bit his lip, trailing off as he thought about how he burnt down his house.
"Is this tent...fireproof?" Tango asked.
"No, it's just a tent. Why, do you think it needs to be? I thought you said you could control your anger and therefore fire."
"Yeah! I did, I was just wondering, just in case, you know?" Tango lied, smiling nervously.
"O...kay..."
"So uh- is there any way I can like...practice...stuff...alone?"
Davien raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean? What are you trying to do?"
"I just- "
"Top, what are you keeping secret?"
"U-uhh- "
"Well?"
"It's just..."
Skizz's Perspective-
"I...thought it'd be nice to have you guys over! Turns out the vet visit was fine and turns out Gryffindor was just being dramatic." Skizz laughed nervously as he welcomed Impulse and his family inside.
Impulse, Bdubs, and Maxie walked in. Maxie giggled and she pet Gryffindor, who was trying to lick her face.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Impulse asked, concerned.
Skizz shrugged him off, "I'm fine, chill. Just...appreciate that I actually learned how to cook more than just muffin pizza."
"God those were awful."
"Hey! You said you liked those!" Skizz said, laughing a bit.
Impulse chuckled, "They were good when we needed fuel, but now that I've tasted Bdubs' cooking, I have standards."
Skizz smiled weakly.
It wasn't long before the dinner, which Skizz thought would be a good way to get over his jealousy and figure everything out, turned into a mess.
His feelings became overwhelming, and he couldn't forget his past. It felt like the dinner they all had together before he left Skizz.
Skizz was trying to move past it and keep chatting and being happy, especially around Maxie, who he saw like his own daughter.
He didn't want to have Maxie see him be in such a bad state, but it became almost impossible to keep things in.
Impulse caught onto this and tried to talk to Skizz alone after dinner.
"Hey, what do you need? Come to tell me about how bad my meal was?" Skizz joked and Impulse sighed.
"I saw the way you looked. And you kept accidentally saying 'we' instead of 'me' or 'I'. You're still holding onto him, aren't you?"
"I- "
"Just...Skizz, what are you hiding from me?"
"Um..."
"A lot of stuff, right? Just let me help you."
"I can't- "
"Why can't you?" Impulse asked, sounding disappointed.
Skizz felt his breath hitch and tears started to form in his eyes.
"What is so bad that you can't tell me?" Impulse asked quietly.
Skizz felt his feelings build up and he couldn't hold it back anymore.
Tango's Perspective-
"What is so bad that you can't tell me?" Davien asked, looking nettled by Tango's refusal to accept help.
"I- I can't control my fire, okay? I can't control my emotions, and I'm just going out of control!!" Tango shouted, fire sparking up on the nearby bushes, leaving them charred.
Davien stumbled back and his eyes widened.
"I've been trying to keep it in and play it cool all day. Accept I can't. I can't take this anymore!!"
Tango huffed and his eyes turned a burning red, causing Davien to tremble a bit.
Tango saw Davien's expression and he felt worried.
His fire calmed down and he rushed to Davien's side.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry. Are you okay?"
"You- you can't control yourself?"
Tango sighed and looked down, shaking his head.
"What...happened? How did you find this part of the forest?"
"Gem brought me here."
"Come on...what's the full story?"
Tango kept his eyes on the black, burnt grass and his tears gently fell onto it.
"It started when I came home to visit my family."
