Uncle Tango

Impulse's Perspective-

Three Weeks Later-

"Maxie, guess what?" Impulse asked and Maxie looked up from her homework that Bdubs was helping her with.

"What?" Maxie asked, looking up. She then gasped, "Did you get me a puppy?!"

Impulse chuckled, "Still no puppy."

Maxie frowned.

"But we do get to see your Uncle Skizz!" Impulse said excitedly and Maxie squealed.

"Really? When?"

"He and Gryffindor are coming over tomorrow night!"

"Yay!" Maxie hugged her dads, who both chuckled.

Later That Night-

After Impulse and Bdubs tucked in their daughter, they walked downstairs to chat.

"So is Skizz's new roommate coming over with Skizz?" Bdubs asked.

"Yeah, I thought it would be nice to invite them both over. I just- I don't trust his roommate."

"Why not?"

"He's that guy we ran into in the forest, and...he seems like he has something to do with all these fires."

Bdubs looked concerned and put his hand on Impulse's shoulder.

"Hey, I'm sure it's not his fault. You're probably just stressed." Bdubs said.

Impulse sighed, "Yeah, you're probably right. I just don't want Maxie to get hurt. Maxie or Skizz. Skizz has already been through a lot, and I want to make sure Maxie has a bright future."

Bdubs smiled softly and kissed his husband's cheek.

Impulse smiled and blushed.

"It's gonna be okay, trust me. Now, let's get some rest."

Impulse nodded and held Bdubs hand as they walked to their bedroom.

The Next Day-

Maxie waited excitedly for her uncle to arrive. She had set up Mario Kart and everything.

"Hey Maxie?" Impulse walked into the living room, deciding that now was the time to mention Skizz's roommate to her.

"Yeah?" She asked, looking up at her dad.

Impulse sat down on the couch with his daughter.

"You know how time brings change? People and their habits adapt, and new things arise. You know that, right?"

Maxie nodded.

"Well, your uncle has a roommate who is also coming over for dinner."

"Roommate?"

"Yeah."

"Like his boyfriend?"

Impulse chuckled, "No, they're just friends. Friends can live together and not be in love."

"So that means I have two uncles!"

"Well, they're not dating- "

"And then they can both play Mario Kart with me!" Maxie said excitedly.

Impulse sighed and chuckled, ruffling Maxie's hair.

"You know what, sure."

Maxie giggled and there was a knock at the door.

She sprang up and opened it, smiling as she saw her uncle and Gryffindor.

"Gryffindor!" She giggled as Gryffindor ran around her in a circle.

"There's my Maxie!" Skizz said, picking Maxie up and hugging her.

Maxie laughed and hugged back.

"Who's that?" She asked, pointing at Tango.

"Maxie, it's rude to point." Impulse said, helping Skizz put his daughter down.

"This is Skizz's roommate that I was telling you about." Impulse explained, kneeling down and fixing Maxie's braid.

"Ohh!" She looked at him, "Hi! I'm Maxie!"

The guy smiled nervously, "I'm Tango."

"Can you and Uncle Skizz play Mario Kart with me?" She asked.

"Say please." Impulse whispered.

"Please?" She added.

Tango looked at Skizz, who nodded.

"Sure!" Tango said and Maxie smiled, dragging them both over to the couch.

Impulse narrowed his eyes as he watched Tango sit next to Maxie. Impulse then jumped as he felt a hand on his shoulder.

He saw his husband and smiled softly.

"Yeah, you're right, I'm sorry." He whispered.

"Skizz wouldn't trust someone that's dangerous in his house. Especially someone who's dangerous with fire." Bdubs said in a hushed voice and Impulse sighed and nodded.

"You're right, I just can't help but worry."

The night continued and went well, and Maxie started to call Tango her uncle.

"What? But I thought I was your uncle!" Skizz said, acting offended.

Maxie giggled, "I can have two!"

Tango chuckled, "It's alright, I'm good just being called Tango."

Maxie didn't seem happy about that and Skizz elbowed Tango.

Tango sighed, "Alright, you can call me Uncle Tango."

Maxie cheered and Impulse chuckled.

After dinner, Skizz helped him clean up while everyone else sat at the table.

"You seem to really trust Tango." Impulse said, passing Skizz a plate to put in the dishwasher.

"Yeah, I do trust him. Do you?" Skizz asked and Impulse shrugged.

"He just seems dangerous. Like he's hiding something. I mean, why would he be in a burnt forest by himself? It seems weird, you know?"

Skizz shrugs.

"I just wanna make sure Maxie's going to be okay when she moves out." Impulse said, scrubbing a plate.

"Dude, she's only seven!"

"I know! She's going to be eighteen before I know it. And I want the world to be safe for her."

"You can't protect her from everything." Skizz said, taking the plate from Impulse and putting it in the dishwasher.

Impulse sighed, "Yeah...I just wish I could."

Skizz smiled softly.

"You're a good dad, you know?"

"You think so?"

"Yeah, I do."

"Thanks. I think you're a good uncle."

Skizz chuckled and closed the dishwasher.

Impulse leaned on the doorframe and watched as Tango tickled Maxie, who was laughing hard.

"Tango's a good one, too." Impulse whispered.

Skizz smiled and stood next to Impulse.

"I'm glad you're growing to trust him."

"As long as he's not a threat to Maxie."

I really love this chapter. I wrote it back in December but I'll still just go back and reread it, I really liked how it came out. Just the personalities and the emotions at the end, I really love it, and I hope you guys did as well :D
