Three Feet Away
Skizz's Perspective-
Skizz watched as the creature ran off and he was shaking.
What was that?
He slowly got up and looked around at the destroyed forest.
He kneeled down and watched as a rose burned.
All of this destruction is because of him.
Skizz felt mad but then sighed and hung his head.
Maybe he doesn't mean it. Like he said. Maybe he just needs someone to help him.
Skizz looked up before walking back to the firetruck.
Tango's Perspective-
Tango ran into town and calmed himself down, wiping the tears from his eyes.
He took a deep breath and dusted the dirt off of his clothes before walking to a café.
It's okay, it's okay, I'll just start over. I'll be normal.
He ordered a hot chocolate and sat down at a table by himself.
It was empty, and the only real noise you could hear was the quiet chatter from the other customers and the TV playing the news.
The news was reporting the forest fire and Tango's eye twitched a bit.
He took a deep breath, trying not to think about what had just happened.
A guy then sat at the table next to him, sipping on their own drink.
Tango glanced at him, feeling like there was something familiar about the guy, but he didn't question it.
He finished his drink and stood up, but the other guy said,
"Hey, wait."
Tango froze and turned to see the firefighter from earlier.
Tango felt a spike of fear and he was about to leave when the firefighter stopped him.
"Wait, please. I just wanna talk."
Tango looked back at the guy.
"About what?" Tango asked.
"What do you think?" The guy snapped before stopping and sighing, "Sorry, I didn't mean to snap. I just...my job is about protecting people and nature from fire, and what you did today...you destroyed everything that I set to protect."
Tango looked down, biting his lip.
"Just a few questions. I won't push for anything you don't want to answer."
Tango sighed and nodded.
"Fine."
The guy smiled weakly.
"My name's Skizz." He said, stretching out his hand.
Tango hesitated but shook Skizz's hand.
"Tango."
-
Skizz and Tango sat down across from each other, chatting.
"So...Tango, you started these fires. ...why?"
"I don't mean to; they just happen whenever I get mad. I don't mean to have all of this happen."
"They just...happen?"
"Yeah."
"How?"
"The others said it's because I'm some sort of hybrid."
Skizz looked down.
"But...is there any way to stop it? Your fire is stronger than what normal fire is."
Tango shrugs, "I've got no clue."
"No clue? You seriously have no idea how to stop the thing you're causing?" Skizz snapped.
"I- look I'm trying! Do you think it's easy for me to live with this? Your life has probably been smooth sailing for you since you're normal. You probably never had anything bad happen to you! You've probably never lost something close to you!" Tango fired back.
Skizz's hands balled up into fists and he huffed.
"I do know what it's like to have to lose someone you love. I know what it's like to have the love of your life walk out on you and never return." Skizz said, tears rolling down his cheeks.
Tango sighed, shaking his head.
"How can I believe you?" He asked.
"How can I believe you?"
Tango glared at Skizz.
"Fine. Be that way. You know what, I hope your story was true. I hope you did lose someone close to you. Because you deserve it."
Tango then stormed out of the café.
