The Stairs to Family
to those of you reading this, go check out my new story My Love Deep Down (which I should be posting in like 15 minutes)! I know it's not mcyt but it's a big passion project that I'd love for you to read :D
Skizz's Perspective-
Impulse and Bdubs tackled their daughter into a hug.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Impulse asked frantically.
"I'm okay!" Maxie giggled.
"Oh my cod, Maxie, promise to never do that again."
"I promise."
Impulse and Bdubs hugged their daughter tightly and Impulse then looked up at Skizz and Tango.
"Er- ...thank you for...calling me and taking care of her."
Skizz smiled, "Course man, I would never wanna see Maxie starve."
"I just..."
"I didn't mean what I did." Tango said, "I promise you; I just have trouble controlling my emotions. And when I lose it, then everything goes haywire."
Impulse hugged Tango and Tango's eyes widened.
"Thank you for not hurting her." He whispered.
Tango hugged back.
Before they left, Maxie skipped over to Skizz and whispered,
"Can I be the flower girl in your wedding?"
Skizz flushed red and chuckled.
"Don't speak so soon, I don't know if anything will happen."
"Well I do." Maxie said, smiling proudly.
Skizz smiled back and ruffled her hair.
"Never lose your spark, Maxie."
She giggled and held Bdubs's hand before she left with her dads.
Skizz sighed and stood back up.
"What'd she whisper to you?" Tango asked and Skizz blushed.
"Oh! Uh- nothing."
"Mhm."
Skizz smiled softly.
-
Later that evening, Skizz laid in his bed, thinking about what Maxie had said.
Wedding? Me and Tango aren't going to get married.
Skizz sighed.
Besides, what if it ends up like what happened with Etho...
He eventually fell asleep, a dream slowly starting. Or perhaps it was a memory...
-
"Etho, you're the love of my life and I'd like nothing more than to live with you for the rest of it. Will you do me the honor in marrying me?" Skizz asked, getting down on one knee and pulling out a ring.
Etho's eyes widened, and he smiled, hugging Skizz.
"Yes!"
-
"Skizz, you're a great guy, but I just...can't see a future with us."
"Wha- what do you mean? I- I can see it. ...can't you?" Skizz held Etho's hands, but Etho pulled them away.
Tears started to fall.
"This just doesn't feel right." Etho whispered, "I'm sorry, but I think we should cancel the engagement."
-
He was out the door in seconds.
The happiest day of my life was coming and just like that, it was cancelled.
Gone from my grasp.
It was as if everything I had worked towards just collapsed and reality slapped me in the face just to remind me about how not everything is going to work out for me.
I worked so hard to get here, and I'm not going to fail again.
I can't just watch everything fall apart without me being able to fix it.
One of the hardest things for a person to do is ask someone 'will you marry me'.
And to have heard a yes, to have planned your wedding, and to have the person cancel it in the end is probably one of the worst feelings ever.
It makes you feel like a failure, like it's your fault that they decided that it wouldn't work out.
And it makes you scared that you may never find someone for you.
That person, that singular person who you thought was perfect for you, who you thought you would want to spend the rest of your life with, and then you see them walk out the door...it's the kind of damage that may never be fixed.
Especially when you're stuck seeing your friend be happy with his family.
His complete,
Happy,
Loving,
Family.

"Woah, you okay?" Tango asked when seeing Skizz, who had dark circles under his eyes.
Skizz didn't respond.
"Hey...is something wrong?" Tango looked concerned.
"Nah I'm great." Skizz said sarcastically.
Tango frowned and sat down next to Skizz.
"Look, Skizz- "
"Do you even like me in that way? And if so, why? There are so many things wrong with me."
Tango blinked, not expecting Skizz to speak so soon.
"I just- I failed once, why risk failing again? Do you understand how hard it is to ask someone to do that? To commit to you and your love?"
Tango looked down.
"And then to just have it thrown back at your face...it sucks."
Tango chuckled weakly and Skizz looked over at him.
"You know Skizz, it's kinda funny...you're really good at giving advice, yet you suck at listening to it."
"What?"
"You have given me tons of advice about giving yourself a second chance and the fact that there's a reason why you're here, yet you don't listen to yourself say that."
"Well why am I here? What's the reason for that? Why did I have to experience so many failures?"
"Maybe to meet me...who experienced just as many failures as you."
Skizz and Tango made eye contact and Tango smiled softly.
"I know failing sucks; it feels like a slap in the face. But maybe failure can be the road to success."
Skizz blushed and Tango slowly leaned in.
"It's not as hopeless as it seems." He whispered and closed the gap between their lips in a sweet kiss.
