Destroyer of Our Home
Peg's Perspective-
The slight smell of smoke filled the air, and I spiked up with fear.
I looked around, trying to find the source of it.
As I walked around, the smoke got thicker, and I shouted at everyone to get out.
I then realized that I hadn't seen Davien.
I flew up and looked around, desperately trying to find my brother.
I saw him in front of a burning tree, kneeling down, trying to get away but too weak from the smoke filling his lungs.
I flew down and quickly grabbed him before flying off.
-
"What's going on?"
"What's with the fire?"
"Where's Gem?"
Everyone was asking questions as me and Davien joined them away from the forest.
I gently landed and they looked at me for hope.
"I didn't see Gem. I think Martyn and Scott are trying to stop the fire but I'm not entirely sure."
They all sighed, and Ren's ears perked up.
He turned around and out walked Martyn, Scott, and an unconscious Gem.
"Oh my cod, is she alright?" Jimmy asked.
"She should be okay. She was just in the worst parts of the fire." Martyn explained.
Davien coughed and I helped him stand up.
"What caused the fire?" Jimmy asked.
Grian scoffed, folding his arms, "Isn't it obvious? The only one of us who can start a fire isn't here. And the last person who was with him is unconscious. It's clear that Tango must've tried to kill Gem, burn down our homes, and then ran."
"No, he wouldn't do that." Davien said weakly, and I helped sit him down on the ground.
"You need to rest. You inhaled a lot of the smoke." I said, patting his head.
Davien tried to stand, and I sighed.
"Dave, we'll talk about this later. It's time you learned that not everyone can be trusted."
Davien curled up in the corner, keeping to himself as me and the other hybrids chatted.
Davien's Perspective-
Later-
I slowly woke up and saw that we had moved to a different location.
Peg was sitting next to me, keeping watch.
I groaned and sat up.
"Oh good, you're awake. How do you feel?" They asked.
"I'm okay." I said, leaning on her.
Peg nodded and looked at me sternly.
I slowly shrank back.
"I tried to tell you that not everyone in this world is good. Not everyone can be trusted."
I sighed, "But Tango was and is good."
"You can't just rely on your gut feeling!"
"I'm not just relying on my gut! I also know that he accidentally burned down his home and has no control over his emotions and fire!"
"He could just be making that up! People can be very persuasive and manipulative!"
"He wasn't! Remember when Grian stole a radio, and we heard about that house burning down on the news?"
"You mean the radio Jimmy broke two days later?"
"Yes! We heard about a house burning down."
"Tango probably heard that too and just used that for his story. You can't trust him so easily."
"How can you deny that he's innocent when there's evidence right in front of you?"
"Because you don't have any solid proof that this is true."
"He's innocent. He didn't mean to hurt anyone. He just can't control his emotions."
"What about Gem? How can you cover that up?"
"Tango probably got frustrated and mad about everyone's expectations for him and for him having to keep this huge secret that he let it all out and exploded."
"I doubt that." Peg said, folding their arms.
I huffed and stood up.
"Fine. You may not believe it, but I do. And I believe that I can make other people see that Tango didn't mean to do this."
I turned on my heel and marched off to where everyone else was.
