Chapter 2
Cedric Diggory, a Tri-Wizard Champion
Adeen was hateful towards most of her years at Hogwarts, but she truly believed her fifth one would be the worst. With the new additions from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, the school raved with gossip and new people. Most of the annoyance that radiated from Adeen wasn't just from the new students. A lot of her bitterness also came from the Tri-Wizard Tournament.
It was a strange thing to her, the tournament. It was a game that literally risked the lives of students. From each school, a champion would be picked and they would represent their institute in the tournament. It was a huge honor but Adeen thought it was just a stupid way to die and had no issue announcing her thoughts on the matter to her friends.
It was that same day that the champions from the school would be picked, on Halloween. The students who wanted to participate were to put their names into the Goblet of Fire and hope that they were worthy enough for the cup to pick them. After the feast, the champions would be announced.
Adeen loathed the tournament.
"Look at that! Now there's a man who will have my back in battle!" Cedric declared and Adeen looked up from her reflection to see the fifth and final member of their small group, Marcus Belby.
It was ironic really, Marcus Belby was the shy, lanky Ravenclaw that had somehow wormed his way into Adeen's life. A nervous train wreck but overall sweet. Adeen constantly wondered why he didn't have a girlfriend. Adeen figured it was because, just like her, he wasn't that great around people either. But Marcus didn't scare people away. He simply stuttered and couldn't complete a sentence in front of people he didn't know. Adeen thought he was adorable.
But despite his awkward self, the group he found a spot with loved him for who he was and wasn't criticized around them.
They all had their secrets and quirks, so who were they to judge.
Marcus sat down next to Adeen and stretched his limbs before leaning back against a rock.
"That's not a man Cedric, that's just an awkward boy waiting for puberty to hit him," Wendy said, remarking their previous conversation. Marcus rolled his eyes at her before yawning.
"I'm so tired," he mumbled before shutting his eyes. Cedric frowned and Wendy shook her head in a disappointing matter before clicking her tongue.
"What a great man to have in battle, Diggory," she said sarcastically and he gently kicked Marcus' leg.
"I thought you said he was a boy who was waiting for puberty to hit him..." Cedric shot back and Wendy nodded.
"It's going to hit him so hard, he'll see stars for days."
Adeen snickered when she heard Wendy's comment. She glanced up at the sky and slightly frowned. The sky was beginning to darken and Adeen didn't want to be out when the sunset.
"Let's go. Hannah's ass is gonna freeze off if we're out here any longer."
~
Once the group arrived at the Great Hall, they separated and went their own ways. Hannah and Cedric left to the Hufflepuff table, Marcus to Ravenclaw, and Adeen and Wendy returned to the Slytherin table.
"You know, we have a member of each house in our circle of friends, but we don't have a Gryffindor," Wendy suddenly said as she cut a piece of steak and stuffed it into her mouth.
"Excuse me?"
"We need a lion in our group! Then, we'll have the dirt on the Gryffindor's as well! We'll be unstoppable!" Wendy exclaimed as she waved around a piece of chicken. Adeen scoffed and continued to pick at her food. Unlike Adeen, who didn't give a tiny rats ass about anyone but her friends, Wendy loved to gossip. She loved to know everything about everyone.
Adeen preferred to not know the problems of people that she had no care for. She didn't like to complicate her own life with problems that didn't concern her at all.
"Well, when you find someone I can tolerate, send them to me... So I can destroy their every purpose in life," Adeen said darkly and Wendy groaned in response. Wendy knew that Adeen didn't like a lot of people. But she thought that deep down, she was a loving person.
Of course, Wendy was wrong.
Adeen hated everyone.
~
"...Viktor Krum!" Adeen watched as the Quidditch 'Bon-Bon' Viktor Krum walked up as his classmates cheered him on. They announced Krum as the first Tri-Wizard champion. Adeen yawned with boredom.
"I swear on my soul, Adeen, Viktor Krum just winked at Hermione Granger!" Wendy squealed. Adeen rolled her eyes.
"The Beauxbatons champion is... Fleur Delacour!" A pretty girl with blonde hair who was obviously part Veela jumped up and shook hands with Dumbledore. She went into a separate room where the other champion waited. And the final champion was to be announced.
"And the Hogwarts champion is... Cedric Diggory!"
Adeen growled.
~
"Can you believe him!? I thought he was our friend! Fucking hell, when did he even have the chance to place his name into the bloody cup!? Merlin, I'm so mad at him right now! Does he not know how dangerous these things are!?" Wendy rambled loudly. Adeen was in such a foul mood, she only grunted at Wendy's rants.
When Cedric's name was announced, Adeen and Wendy immediately left before rage consumed them that they created a scene. Marcus had dragged Hannah out as well, all resorting to eating their feelings out in the kitchens.
"I have to go do something... I'm uh, I'm going to the library to study," Adeen snapped and walked off in a rush towards the library. The overwhelmed Slytherin just needed something to distract herself from Cedric before she lost her mind.
"I'll come with," Marcus said, following close. As they left, Adeen could still hear Wendy and Hannah planning on how to murder Cedric Diggory.
"I say we feed him to the crocodile!"
"We are not Lost Boys, Wendy, stop suggesting the Peter Pan method."
~
Whenever Adeen ran out of her specially made pills, it was a race between time and her emotions. Careful not to overwhelm herself during her unpredictable time, she avoids everyone until she gets more of her medicine.
She had finished her pills the next morning, after engulfing most of them the day before after Cedric's tournament announcement. So in her vague attempt to ease her fiery powers, she sought out help from Madam Pomfrey and the head of her house, Severus Snape.
While Pomfrey provided Adeen with her daily pills, Snape was around when the pills had no effect on her anymore. The days when her nerves were close to getting out of hand, the potions master always had a Calming Draught ready for her to take.
"Miss Kalama, you are consuming too many of your pills at once. Three a day is enough. Take one with every meal," Madam Pomfrey instructed Adeen as she handed her a new bottle.
"Just taking three pills a day will do me no good, Madam. Unless you want me to burn Hogwarts down, I suggest prescribing me to a higher dosage," Adeen mumbled. The healer sighed.
"If they are truly losing its effects then we must resort to only using the Calming Draught. Go speak with the head of your house about it."
Adeen frowned but obeyed. She headed straight to the potions classroom, and after having a very poor conversation with Snape about a new batch of Calming Draught, she left for her classes.
She entered Transfiguration and sat down towards the back. She wasn't sure where Wendy was or if she was even going to attend class. Wendy claimed that if she was tired, her mental help would be no good for her education and she needed rest. It was her way of saying fuck it all and spent her entire day sleeping.
Adeen grabbed her medicine out from her robes before placing a little pill on her tongue and she waited for it to dissolve. Once gone, Adeen smacked her mouth in attempts to rid her of the strange taste.
"Would you like some water?"
She turned sharply to the person who had decided to take the empty seat next to hers and who definitely wasn't Wendy.
The boy held out a bottle of water but Adeen refused to take it. He was a Gryffindor, and for some reason, they hated Slytherin's like Adeen. She wasn't sure why, Adeen went out of her way to avoid everyone, not just the students from the lion's house. She wasn't sure why they thought they were so bloody special.
When Adeen made no effort to take the water, the boy awkwardly set it back down into his bag. He rubbed his neck and Adeen took the chance to look at him. The boy's red hair was a quick give away as to who he was.
"You're a Weasley, aren't you?"
The boy grinned widely and gave a nod.
"Name's Fred, love. Commit it to memory before it slips your pretty little head."

So a little background on this story:
This book is technically the second book to a series I had planned over 3 years ago. It's been in my drafts ever since and all it's sister books as well. It was supposed to be released as a sequel following another book called Flower Girl, but as you can see, The Fire Girl was released without it's companion.
And the reason for that is that I simply liked the characters more in this book.
I connected with them more, gave them a better storyline, it all just added up better.
The other three books were each going to follow a different main character, all with a very similar power to Adeen's. It would all be their own story with their own problems and what not, and in the end, I planned on making a fifth book where it all connects together.
But I flushed all of those ideas down the toilet.
In the end, I decided to concentrate on only Adeen and Fred's story. Maybe in the future, some spinoffs will be released about the other girls. Or I'll write a small short story on each of the other three. Either way, they will be eventually introduced in following books.
Like I said, this is a year+ long project. I've rewritten this story over four times now because I am never satisfied with it.
Despite all it's trouble, I am very proud of this book. I hope you all like it and enjoy it as much as I loved writing it.
Comment your thoughts, I love reading comments ❤️
