A-game

A quick look into a prissy pricey school (Theresa's words not mine).  Pay close attention to the settings and characters, it will be useful in my next project. 🌞🌞

"Come on... It will be funnn.... "  Theresa drawled out the last word expatiating what she meant by fun as she dragged my reluctant body along to the awaiting bus.

"I don't know Theresa, i am not up for any social exercise as at now..."

"Nonsense"

Well, at least i did my best.

We finished writing our exams two days ago which happens to be on a Wednesday, today is our friendly match with Ivy League Academy.

Theresa thought it would be cool if i join her to go watch the match in other to clear my head and change scene.

She had successfully dragged me out of the hostel and presently we stood beside the bus which will take the cheer team and other students to Ivy League where the match will be holding.

The bus taking the football team had left with them fifteen minutes earlier so we should join them soon.

"I actually prefer staying in bed rather than watching the match"

She shook her head sadly, looking at me as if i needed help. My arm was still in a tight grip as she basically had us tangled up.

"And make me go alone in facing those stuck up kids? You must be crazy"

I huff.

Pot calling kettle black...

Theresa was dressed in her nines. Her uniform which always looked good on her was so prim and regal on her gorgeous form. She was really going all out...

News that Ivy League kids were bunch of nasty, rich stuck up kids who believed are better than anyone got to us so it is really important for us to win this match or else...

SJC wants to rub it on their face that...  We no be your mate.

Left to me, i feel like they are just two group of entitled kids who wants to act more bigger than the other.

Pot calling kettle black....

I took off my blazer, placing it on my arm as i wait patiently besides Theresa.

"Hey girls"

I turn around sharply at his voice, i swooned when our eyes met.

"Hi" i squeaked. He smiled brightly at my reply and was about to say something when he got called. I watch him excuse himself for a minute before leaving our presence not before pulling at my cheek in a soft playfully manner.

I blushed, getting all giddy inside.

Did Korede just pulled my cheek?

"Earth to Omo-T"

I snapped out of it when Theresa called me to the present, a smug look on her face.

"What?" I asked, acting all casual.

"Nothing o. Ehehe.... Just make him work for that booty, hmm?"

I groaned at her choice of words, the bus was finally opened to convey us.

Unfortunately, Ejiro won't be joining us, he claimed he still had some projects he was working on and would like to complete. I think it has to do with the physical game.

He is not a big fan of the game.

We got in with Theresa strapped tightly beside me on the two seaters. She was acting as if i was going to run away. I look out through the window, thinking on everything that has happened to me for the past two to three weeks.

It gets scary that some people will do everything to get rid of innocent people for no reason at all. I will be seeing Tega today but i am not going to tell him anything.

He would just keep ranting and hating on every SJC student he sees on sight.

"What are you thinking about?" Theresa asked all of a sudden. I turn to see her watching me closely.

Theresa had seen me in my darkest moments, after the day i broke down in her presence due to what happened, she had been careful with me and it was like she took me under her wing, looking out for me.

Like a big sister looking out for her younger sister kinda thing. I am really thankful for this.

Giving her a small smile, the bus leaves SJC premises with us in it.

"Nothing. I am just excited to see my cousin"

She had a look on her face that told me she wasn't buying the shit i was saying but decided not to press further.

"I still find it hard to believe that you have a cousin schooling in Ivy League"

I chuckled, i know she was trying to figure out how i am a scholarship student while a cousin of mine schools in an academy that pays millions of naira as school fees.

"My uncle is pretty loaded."

"I still find it unbelievable" she mused.

I laughed.

She must be thinking my uncle must be a mean man if he can't help my family but i have no problem with my uncle, i love that man. It's his wife that i don't trust.

Tega's dad, Uncle Frederic is a beautiful soul you would fall in love with every time. Despite all the wealth, he is still a very generous and humble person something most rich people lack in their personality.

He had helped my family quite a lot of times, and if my father not being a stubborn African man, we would have left the ghetto. I think it also had to do with Tega's mum.

Now don't get me started on that...

My father will rather stay in his humble home than allow one woman talk to him anyhow because her husband helped him, even if the said husband was his younger brother.

I bobbed my head to the music 'Vibration' by Fireboy DML as it burst through one of the speakers inside the huge bus. It also got the students in the mood as most of them sang along.

"Are you girls feeling the vibration?" i jumped on my seat when Akorede's head popped up behind me.

"Shut up you dirty boy!" i laughed as Theresa pushed him back by the head into his seat, she made sure he was seated before seating back down.

Yeah, only she can do that.

"He is sitting behind us?" i whisper yelled.

"Him and Faramade"

"I never knew"

"Don't mind the yeye boy. He is just trying to get noticed by you" she said with a coy smile on her face which made me giggle.

We listen to more music as Theresa told me to ignore a very jovial Akorede who was hellbent on striking up a conversation with us but Theresa was not having it.

The bus ride was so fun filled and exciting but things started getting serious when the gates of Ivy League Academy came into view.

The gate itself was intimidating, dark and mighty with vines like railings surrounding the gate and fence.

It looked like we were entering a mystical, enchanted, haunted castle.

When the gate opened, and as the bus drove in. I felt like we had entered into another outwardly portal.

Oh my freaking goodness!

SJC is beautiful and majestic alright, with a calm and peaceful, serene environment to it but this here, this right here...

"Damn" came out someone's voice from inside the quiet bus.

That is a minute word to describe the dark, monstrous, gigantic yet epically beautiful architectural edifice in front of us. I am proud of my school but with what i am seeing, i felt a thingy bit intimidated.

The bus parked beside our other bus which brought the players here but was now empty, the teachers stepped out of the bus to meet the officials while we stay back a little.

I noticed almost all the students were standing glued to the windows to take in the finesse, superiority and regality of everything around them.

I watched closely and i saw something i never thought i would see in some of their faces.

Inferiority...

It was so sickening to watch.

These were children of politicians and businessmen, trust fund babies.

The girl beside me stared blankly at everything not moved a bit by what surrounded her. She watched everything with a straight face and when she got tired of her mates moping like a fool, she flew into action.

"If i could have everyone's attention" her sharp orotund voice which always command attention caused everyone to sit up on their seats as she stood up in all her glory.

"Fellow SJC students. I understand we have stepped into another new, untested territory and i know it is bugging us with everything we are seeing but i want you to understand these that we have an excellent team who will give their all to make us proud, a beautiful uniform that makes us stand out anywhere, sets of intelligent young intellectuals that will make Einstein have a run for his money" she said throwing me a wink before going on "three bitches that we will make you eat your words" Becca basically fanned herself from where she sat with her friends as they smirked at her statement not caring that she insulted them "an elite led by the biggest, wealthiest guys in the state if not Nigeria!" she exclaimed while pointing at Akorede and Faramade.

Students started hooting and clapping but she wasn't done.

"And remember.... No matter what you see in there." She pointed at the entrance where we saw glimpse of students moving around. "we are going to stand tall and proud of our school whether our school wins or not and we are going to cheer so loud that it will make these nepotism babies and young moneys quiver in their seats! We are going to shake the foundations of this arduous school and make her wish she never messed with SJC!"

She finished her speech with a tight fist in the air, the students roared in approval and it almost sounded like a battle cry in my ears, all hyped up and ready to bring down war on Ivy League.

She turned to the cheer leading team, flicking her wrists.

"Do your thing girls"

And the war began. Students matched down the bus with rigour and pride as if they own the place, in contrast to what they looked like a while ago.

The power of TNT.

"Nice pep talk"

I said watching the hyped students match down the bus with a skip in their steps.

"I try my best" she said with a shrug.

"Don't you think calling me Einstein is a bit too much?" i teased but she only snickered.

"Trust me you will need that to be ringing at the back of your mind once you step into that place"

I frowned at her words but couldn't make much of it. We were the last set of students to step down the bus with Akorede and Faramade in tow.

The beautiful, preppy cheer leaders took the lead. I smiled suddenly feeling proud of our uniform as we brought much color and light to the dark aura surrounding the place.

"Stay with me and if you feel or see anyone looking at you in a nasty way, give him or her the stinky eye. You have the adequate looks that will make anybody cower, i just need you to perfect your bitch face" she said while adjusting her  Louis Vuitton waist bag around her waist.

"You make it look like you are walking into a war zone" i stated casually, the boys joined us, walking towards the entrance.

"Oh honey... You have no idea"

-----

When we stepped into the school building, i started thanking Theresa mentally for giving us that pep talk.

We really needed that pep talk.

The first thing i noticed was the uniform, i had seen the uniform on Tega quite a few number of times but it did no justice to what i am seeing now.

Dark plaid short skirts with wine trimmings, white shirts with burgundy colored fancy bow ties with emerald green blazers and black socks for the females.

Dark slacks, white shirts with burgundy colored ties for the males, same color of blazers with the females.

"They copied our style" Theresa declared but i just threw her a look she ignored.

You think?!

They might have 'copied' our style like she claimed but they looked ridiculously regal while going at it.

Then i realized that our entrance caused some sort of attention. I found almost ninety percent of students staring, fawning or glaring at us.

"What is going on?" i asked quietly, Akorede stepped beside me as Theresa led our little group.

"They know royalty when they see one" was her only reply to my question.

'...is that Theresa Taylor?...'

'...she looks more prettier in real life than in pictures...'

'...oh my God!... It is Akorede! Arrgh!  Faramade Kutiiii!...'

I watched in amusement as students, especially female ones of different age popped out from everywhere staring at the dynamic trio, even though two were missing from the group, they still pulled the crowd like always.

'...he is so good looking!... '

'...so handsome... His eyes! His eyes! My ovaries!...'

'...Who is she?...'

'...do you know her?...no i don't... '

'but she must be someone if she is hanging out with them... '

I sighed with a slight shaking of my head.

Typical rich kids.

I saw no difference between the two school. They are just trying to oppress each other. Only that, it seems Ivy League had a lot of foreigners as students.

I saw two white kids just now. I mean pure white kids... Not half caste.

Now don't get me started on the half castes,  it was like they had an association of half caste students going on.

"Aunt Teniola should come see her people" Akorede said from beside me, i chuckled as we walk further, aware of the eyes on us but trying to act cool calm and collected.

"You noticed?"

"Yeah... It is like there is a fraternity of sorts going on here" i stifled a laughter at his statement .

We stopped walking when others stopped. I look around to see we were in a less crowded area of the school. We were being moved towards the field and i saw senior students of the school flanked on both sides of the walkway, watching us like hawks.

I saw Theresa nod back at a girl who stood out from everyone, it was not her gorgeous face or delicate honey like skin that made her stood out, she stood in the company of some mean looking girls yet she stood out like a queen, looking stunning, poise and imperial but i feel there was something off about her.

They said the eyes is the window to the soul but hers... It depict emptiness and... I don't know what to call it.

She just gave me that aura.

She looked familiar though...

We got to the field and we were quick to see our team warming up for the game. Loud cheers by us filled the football field, a sound of our arrival.

The happy looks on the players faces made me realize how much they needed this.

Bankole had a shit eating grin on his face when he spotted the whole gang, he called Evans who was busy jumping really high before squatting down at a spot, pointing in our direction as soon as he got his attention. Evans smiled sending us a wave in which we returned.

We were directed to the bleachers in other not to interfere with the warm ups. I stood with my friends as SJC students took their time in settling down.

As usual.

They got to show off.

That was the time the football players of Ivy League decided to make their appearance. I watch gobs smacked as they bounded into the fields like beast unleashed from the gates of Hades.

Tall, strong, wild looking, lanky boys...

Wait! Where did they get them from?

I almost got scared but when i saw our boys, Evans, Bankole, Akeju, Kelechi, Bobola, Shadow and the likes i know we stood a chance.

I mean you would really want to think twice if you want to go up against Kelechi or Umaru, the giant bunny from Ss3b, not to talk of Evans or Akeju.

I got wary when the last one stepped out. You don't need to be told to know he is the captain. You will know he is the alpha male, leading the pack of beasts. He stood tall, high and mighty, fair skinned with buffed up arms and body like a steroid walking human.

He walked like he got all the time in the world and i flinched when i saw the face as he got closer, it gave me whiplash and chills. I blinked before shaking my head.

I turn quickly to look at our team only to spot who i was looking for in front, leading the group of players but suddenly stopped when he also saw the giant i saw, and i must have been mistaken but he grew pale.

I rubbed my eyes, looking back at the dude.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me?

Why am i seeing two Akejus?

I think one is enough.

They only difference was that he looks more tough, muscled up and cocky than Akeju.

I shook my head before looking away, people do look the same anyway.

I turn to look at my friends but gasped at the force that jumped on me from behind, i almost let out a scream but stopped when i smell the familiar cologne.

I giggled when he lift me up before spinning me around in a hug.

"What the fuck is going on here?!" i hear someone who suspiciously sounds like Akorede roared.

Tega froze before putting me down slowly, slinging his arm around my shoulders, looking up at Akorede in disdain, his nose stuck up in the air.

"And who are you?" Tega demanded drawing me closer. Akorede took a step forward which caused some unwanted attention from both sides.

"I should be asking you that question!" he said dragging me away from my cousin by the arm but Tega being the trouble maker he was pulled me back.

Akorede growled.

I watch Theresa face palm herself while Faramade only glared at Tega like a vermin, eyeing his arm on my shoulders like a piece of shit.

"I am her husband" Akorede's mouth went slack in shock at Tega's declaration "she is betrothed to me"

I will kill this boy o....

"Don't listen to him" I tried convincing Akorede who looked hurt and pale with what he heard.

"Listen to me my guy. She is my woman- oohmph!"  he doubled over in pain at the sharp jab i gave him on his stomach with my elbow.

I have a feeling if i don't do that, Korede will jump at him soon.

"Please don't mind my cousin"

"Your cousin?" Faramade raspy voice rang out in suspicion while i nodded.

"Way to blow my cover Omotola" i gave him a glare to shut up the same time i saw Korede's shoulders sagged in relief.

"Oh.... he is the cousin you told me about..." Theresa said her eyes running through Tega's form in appreciation.

I introduced them to him and after a brief yet awkward introduction, Tega decided to open his stupid mouth again.

"Why is this one acting like he owned you?" he asked boldly, his eyes sizing up Akorede but he stood strong and unwavering in front of my cousin.

I will give him kudos for that because Tega has a withering glare that can turn you to ashes, one of the reasons he doesn't have many friends. People believed he is stuck up.

Tega? Stuck up?

Oh please...

"Tega stop-"

"You never told me you had a boyfriend" Tega jibbed but there is a note of warning to it.

"Soon to be"

I flushed at Akorede's statement. He sounded so damn sure. Tega gave him the stinky eye before letting out a scoff.

"I would be a judge of that" i frowned at his statement, he leaned closer for me to hear "You never told me he was a caveman, you have a lot of explaining to do dear cousin"

"Tega -"

He didn't allow me to finish speaking, ruffling my well packed hair before running back to the field to join his team members.

I sighed.

"Hmm hm! Hotness runs in your family for sure" i rolled my eyes at Theresa's statement.
