Chapter 6
When Kari and Chase woke up they got a few more items for their trip then went to the Circle of mystery around noon. They then traveled to the feudal era.
"Hello Kari, hello Chase. You seem to have gotten a bit taller." One of the village people said kindly while bowing in respect once Kari arrived in Kaede's village. Kari returned the respectful bow while Chase did the same.
"Hello miss. Thank you, I guess I'm growing a bit." The child replied then went onwards to Kaede's hut, Chase trotting to her right happily. Kari had grown at least five inches ever since her first arrival in feudal Japan.
Once the child was in Kaede's hut she smiled and waved. "Hi Kaede." Kari greeted while Chase cooed his greeting.
"Hello child." Kaede said with a smile. "The others are scattered throughout the village and will be back soon. Maybe you should stay close by so when they come back you all are ready to go." Kari nodded then went outside and decided to make dirt castles to pass the time.
"... I wonder what it'll be like when we travel again. I also wonder what it'll be like when school starts back up... It'll be only a few weeks until entrance exams, then after that is the ceremony. To make it worse is I'll be going into tenth grade... Oh geez..." Kari sighed. Chase looked at Kari in confusion. "Huh? Oh, school is a thing in my time that kids go to for a few hours a day for five days a week, with the exception of holidays. There they learn about stuff that supposedly helps them out in life. In my time, people value knowledge more than anything else. Oh, even though I'm twelve I'm in a higher grade, I think Kagome will share the same grade as me this year. Hmm... " Kari hummed in thought while Chase nodded at her explanation of school, understanding what it was to an extent.
After a while Shippo and Kirara arrived from whatever they were doing. The two played with Kari and Chase happily for a while just to pass the time. After a while everyone was together and getting ready to go. While everyone was getting ready, Inuyasha volunteered to watch over Kari for the time being.
The two sat outside Kaede's hut and watched the clouds in a nearby tree, high above the ground. They stayed silent as they stared at the pure white cotton candy in the sky.
"Hey," Inuyasha finally spoke. Kari looked at him. "You wanna get stronger?" He asked. Kari blinked then looked down, keeping quiet. "Well?! Say something!" Inuyasha snapped. Kari flinched.
"... Y-Yeh... Maybe." She stammered after a while. Inuyasha huffed.
"First of all, quit bein' so shy! If you're gonna protect yourself then you gotta be confident in your skills, don't let people walk all over you."
"Kay." Kari nodded with an unsure tone.
"Good. We'll practice while traveling. We'll see what you're good at. The whole group will help train you to get stronger." Kari blinked in shock and stared at the half demon.
"... The whole group? ... Train me? ... Well, at least I won't be a burden anymore, for the most part..." Kari nodded.
"Alright. Thank you." She gave a shy smile. Inuyasha nodded in reply. Eventually the group set off on their journey, after Inuyasha told everyone he told Kari they would all train Kari. It looked like they all had agreed to train the girl before hand.
The group of eight trekked to a village that was nearby because they heard rumors of a demon that had a shikon jewel shard in its possession.
"So, this is a pretty strong demon." Shippo stated once they were a ways away from Kaede's village.
"That's what I heard." Miroku stated. "And it's even stronger because of the jewel shard it has." Kari hummed in thought as she walked onward. "The rumors say that it's a Wanyūdō, A flaming wheel with a man's head in the center that sucks out the soul of anyone who gets too close to it." Miroku informed the others.
"So we should be careful around this demon." Kari said while inspecting the spiked cuffs on her wrist. She was a bit curious as to what the buttons did, but let them be for now.
"Exactly. Be very careful around this demon. One wrong move and it'll suck your soul right out of your body." Kari shivered. "Don't worry, Kari. I'll take care of--" Sango smacked Miroku's head with her Hiraikotsu because he was being his usual pervy-self. "-- you..." The monk wheezed, his right hand that was inches away from Kari's rear now twitching.
"Kari, I'll look after you." Sango huffed. Kari just nodded quickly, not liking that Sango was mad.

One week passed and the group finally arrived in the town that had the soul-sucking wheel demon. Kari had trained a bit with the same daggers from the previous village when they killed the Jorogumo demon, Sayuri. She was much better at handling the weapons and was more comfortable keeping them in a sheath around her waist. Kari personalized the daggers by tying silver ribbon around the black hilt of each one, letting the ends of the ribbon hang down a bit.
Once the group confronted the head of the village and explained why they were there then were given two rooms at one of the inns, free of charge, and given food for the night.
"So, we can't all just run in there at once. If we do that we'll surely lose our souls." Miroku hummed in thought.
"How about we attack from a distance?" Kagome suggested. Miroku hummed.
"That might work. Lets think of a few backup plans in case that one doesn't work." The monk suggested. Everyone agreed, best to have more than one plan than lose your soul if the first plan failed. That evening the group split up into two smaller groups. The first consisted of Miroku, Shippo, and Inuyasha while the other had Sango, Kirara, Chase, Kagome, and Kari. They prepared for the battle then headed to the newly abandoned hotel, where the demon resided. Once inside the two teams said good luck and be careful to one another then ran off.
Sango went in first of her group. Chase, who had gotten larger, was next with Kagome and Kari on his back. Kirara stayed close to Sango in her smaller form for the time being. They soon heard noise from the kitchen, like munching and slurping. Kari shivered and buried her face in Kagome's back while Chase narrowed his eyes, crouched to the ground, and growled in a low, protective tone while baring his sharp fangs. Sango held onto her Hiraikotsu and slowly took a fighting stance while Kirara's fur stood on end. They soon heard a squeak sound then saw a mouse exit the kitchen. The group relaxed.
"A... Mouse... Heh..." Kari chuckled nervously in relief. Then a weird light surrounded the mouse as its soul escaped its body from its mouth, toppling over seconds later. "That is not a normal. That is not a normal!" Kari shivered while the team went back to being on guard. Soon the demon in question rolled out of the kitchen, his back to them, then sucked up the soul and hummed in contentment.
"What a meal. So small yet so delicious. It was rather hard to get the darn thing to stay still though." The Wanyūdō sighed then began to roll away.
Kagome widened her eyes upon noticing a glimmer in the Wanyūdō. It was a large shard of the sacred jewel and it was lodged in the outer rim of the wheel. It was not the largest she had seen but it was still pretty big. Once the demon was gone Kagome informed Sango, who nodded in reply. The team then walked onward and soon came across the lobby of the hotel. There they saw the bodies of the previous people that came to slay the demon and most likely the innocent people who once stayed here. Kari just stared in terror while Chase walked close behind Sango.
"I'm getting a bad feeling. Kagome, stick with me. Kirara stay with Chase and Kari. Go hide somewhere." Sango ordered and Kirara hopped onto Chase's back while Kagome went to be with Sango. Kari whimpered and frowned.
"We'll be okay, Kari. Just stay hidden, please. You're not ready to take this kind of demon on just yet." Kagome soothed and Kari nodded slowly. Chase walked off to find a hiding spot after a moment. Sango looked around then heard the sound of a wheel. Sango gripped her Hiraikotsu and Kagome got an arrow ready to shoot. Soon the demon came into view, facing them. It's eyes flashed a bright red and the girls began to feel weak.
"Fox fire!" A voice called from the shadows. A blue flame hit the Wanyūdō and the demon hissed in pain and turned around to see nothing. He turned back towards his two victims to see that the two girls were gone. He growled and began to search for them.
"That was too close." Kagome huffed from the ceiling.
Sango nodded. "If it weren't for Shippo, we'd be dead." She stated then the two got back on the ground and slowly followed behind the demon.
Eventually they found the demon in the main hall of the inn. They also saw Shippo, Inuyasha, and Miroku on the opposite side of them. After a moment Sango threw her Hiraikotsu at the demon and hit it. Kagome shot an arrow at it in unison with Shippo's fox fire. Miroku used his wind tunnel to move it closer to Inuyasha who went to slash it, but the wheel hit the half demon and sent him flying. Inuyasha growled and stood back up, only to notice that the fight had moved somewhere else. Inuyasha grumbled and began searching for the demon.
