Chapter 21
Standing in front of the girl was a woman with long shimmering fire colored hair, a dazzling kimono decorated in blazing reds, oranges and golds with a phoenix pattern. Her hair was partly pulled up and held in place by a flaming ball. The figure turned and looked at Kari. Her eyes were a bright gold color.
"Who are you?" Kari asked while she was helped stand up.
The woman smiled gently with a light chuckle. "We have already met. But I look different than what you've seen. You know me as Seika. But my real name is Amaterasu." Kari blinked a few times as everything began to rush at her.
Kari widened her eyes. "What?!" She yelped. "Amaterasu, as in Amaterasu goddess of the sun?!" The woman nodded. The group started in shock as the woman nodded with a small chuckle.
"Yes, the same one." She stated. "I must say, you are much stronger that I thought. You've exceed all of our expectations with in such a short amount of time, we all thought it would take you five years to get to where you are now. You really are something special."
Miroku then walked up. "What do you mean by, "all of our expectations"? What is going on here?"
"Yeah? Why are you here all of a sudden?" Inuyasha asked, a little annoyed. Everyone else walked up to join the conversation.
Amaterasu sighed. "There are reasons as to why I am here. Some of which I can not say yet. But I can say this, I've been watching over Kari for her whole life. In this world and Kagome's world. All of us gods and goddesses have whenever we had time." She informed.
Kagome blinked. "Wait, how is that possible?" She asked. Kari then blinked.
"The Abilities Temple was in a rift of space time, which allowed me to keep in touch with my studies, maybe this is something similar?" She asked in a low tone. Amaterasu nodded in agreement.
"Something like that, yes."
Inuyasha tilted his head, as well as everyone else who was raised in the feudal era. "Rift of space time?" The half demon asked.
Kari gulped. "It's too hard to explain." The child shivered lightly. "Just, trust me on that."
"It's kinda like the well I use to travel to and from my home to here." Kagome stated matter-of-factly.
"Why didn't I think of that?" Kari thought to herself with an internal groan. After a while the group went to their camp and talked with the goddess of the sun while Kari slept next to Inuyasha, she always let her guard down around him and sometimes the others.
"So, there isn't much you're able to tell us?" Sango asked. The goddess shook her head.
"No, that would mess everything up. If I were to tell you everything, then it would spark unwanted events." She informed. The others nodded sadly. "Don't worry, the answers will arrive soon." She stated with a gentle smile then stood. "Well, I must be on my way. Farewell." With that, the goddess left the group of friends.
The next day everyone was on the move once again, chatting amongst themselves about last night. Inuyasha decided to train a bit while on the move, so he and Kari started sparring for a bit. What they did not know was that a flying eye watched them from a safe distance and inspected their movements.
The eventually Kari and Shippo had fallen asleep. Kagome carried Shippo and Inuyasha geld Kari. Chase wanted to carry the girl, but she kept waking up when she was sat down. Soon the group stopped for the night and rested for the night, Inuyasha kept watch. As the night went on, a scent caught the half demon's nose and he grumbled.
"Sesshomaru." He stated in a low tone. The half demon wanted to investigate, but Kari was fast asleep and he did not want to wake her. But curiosity was getting the better of him, so he leaned the girl against her dragon then swiftly and quietly left. Kari grumbled and slowly opened her eyes.
"Inu... Yasha?" She mumbled while sitting up and rubbing her dazed eyes with a yawn. "Where'd he go?" She asked to no one in particular then stood up and left the group to look for the half demon.
----------
Kari looked around the area, her nose pointed towards the sky and sniffing non-stop. She frowned and sat down for a moment to rest since she was tired, but she could not relax. The girl grumbled and stood up and began to look for the half-demon once again.
"Sesshomaru, why are you here?" A familiar voice growled. Kari blinked and swiftly hid, using a bit of energy to mask her scent even though it would only last for a moment or two.
"I could ask you the same thing, little brother." Kari blinked and widened her eyes as she listened in to the conversation. "But if you must know, I smelled something here. Something interesting." Inuyasha growled and Kari listened more, now interested. She glanced from her hiding spot and saw a tall and slender young man with fair skin with pointy ears, golden eyes with slit pupils, and waist-length light silver hair with short bangs, similar to inuyasha's hair color. He had a purple crescent moon on his forehead that could be seen beneath his bangs and was thinner than Kari's crescent moon, two magenta stripes on each cheek, and a magenta stripe on each eyelid. He wore armor that included a spiked pauldron that covered his left shoulder attached to the upper section of his cuirass and "lotus petal" faulds. His kimono was mostly white with a red and white cherry blossom flower crest at the collar and sleeves, showing that he was of royal birth. He wore sashinuki hakama which were gathered at the ankles, producing a "ballooning" effect. His footwear consisted of black ankle-high boot like shoes. On his right shoulder was his mokomoko-sama, the fur and tail of his true form which he retained in his humanoid form.
Kari widened her eyes and held in a gasp as the two continued to converse. Inuyasha was next to speak. "So, what'd you smell?" The half-demon asked with a slightly annoyed tone.
Sesshomaru sighed and used his right arm to tuck some hair behind his ear. "A scent that hasn't been around for a while... Thiteen years actually. That of a half-god half-demon being." He informed and Kari blinked, piecing everything together. Inuyasha widened his eyes slightly but immediately forced his face back to his usual emotion with a nervous gulp.
"Well, your nose must be actin' funny, cuz I don't smell anything like that."
"That's because you aren't familiar with the scent, half breed. I know the scent because I've been around it more than you. Now out of my way." Inuyasha growled, but backed off.
"Wha--" That was when Inuyasha saw a familiar figure out of the corner of his eye. "Kari?" He asked with a shocked expression. "The hell are you doing up?!" The girl looked confused and a bit shaken up. "Kari, what's wrong? You ha--" Kari backed away a bit. Sesshomaru looked at the girl and swiftly appeared in front of her, causing her to jump in shock.
"You." He muttered and glanced Kari over, taking in her features. "You look familiar." Kari gulped, only to run out of energy at the worst possible time. Her once hidden scent now surrounded the area. Sesshomaru widened his eyes slightly and picked up the child with his only arm and stared at her.
"Put her down!" Inuyasha roared and went to tackle Sesshomaru, only to be kicked out of the way.
"Inuyasha!" Kari yelped in shock. "Hey, lemme go!" Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes in slight annoyance.
"What do you call yourself?" The demon asked in his usual tone.
"The name's Kari Himura!" Kari growled. Sesshomaru sighed then dropped the girl. "Oomph." The girl huffed after her behind met with the dirt.
"You the same one." He muttered and began to leave.
"Hold on a second, bastard!" Inuyasha roared. "The hell did you do that to her?!"
"None of your business." With that Sesshomaru was gone. Inuyasha growled but then turned to Kari, who was staring at him with the same expression as before.
The half-demon approached the girl, but she took a step back. Inuyasha flattened his ears. "Kari, why ar--"
"Did you know?" Kari gulped.
Inuyasha was taken back by the question. But he knew the answer. "What?"
"Did you know?!" Kari asked, growling in rage. Three piercing golden rings appeared around her pupils, which were now slits, and her eyes began to glow.
Inuyasha hesitated then looked down. "No."
"Lier!" Kari snapped. Inuyasha sighed.
"Alright, I knew! The day after you ate that peach your scent changed. Shippo and I both knew right away. I didn't wanna tell you because I didn't know how you'd react." Kari tightened her jaw angrily as tears of pure rage pooled in the corners of her eyes.
"Why the hell did you keep that from me?!" She roared, her emotions taking control. "Why wouldn't you tell me that, damn it?!" The tears dripped down Kari's face. "I trusted you and you pull this?! For a whole damn year you kept this from me! A whole year Inuyasha!" Kari was shaking.
"Kari, I--"
"No, shut up!" Kari screamed and the ground shook as bits of fire bubbled from the cracks that were just caused by the girl. "I trusted you!" Kari roared, her eyes now glowing a pure red. "I'm going home!" Kari called then put her right palm in front of her forehead and slightly in front of her face.
"Kari no wai--" Kari vanished with a gust of wind, leaving Inuyasha alone to think about what he had done. The half-demon gulped then slowly walked back to the others. He would inform them about what happened in the morning.
"I screwed up big time..." Inuyasha thought to himself while thinking about recent events.
----------
Naraku chuckled upon entering his room, which was mainly empty. "Now let's see if Inuyasha will be able to fight me, knowing that little Kari is heartbroken and cold because of something he did." He smirked evilly at his plan.
