Chapter 13
After a few days, Kari began to get a bit worried. Weird things had been occurring around her lately, even more than usual. She would feel her temperature rise to inhuman levels when she grew angry. Sometimes the girl would wake up floating and other things. This frightened her. That was not the only thing she was dealing with though, Kari had caught a cold and was unable to leave the tree she was in to go to work.
"Chase..." Kari mumbled weakly. "Mind going to tell Kagome I'm sick? Please?" Chase barked then trotted off to Kagome's house while the girl slept.

As Kagome went to refresh her studies, she heard a knock on her window. The teen sighed and opened her curtains to see Inuyasha. She opened her window and let him in.
"Yo."
"What're you doing here? You only come over when..." Kagome paused and sighed. "Forget that last part."
Inuyasha shrugged. "Just thought I'd drop by to say hi. That so bad?"
"No, it's just, I'm studying because exams are coming up in less than a month." Kagome sighed. "And I haven't been studying at all. I really need to get caught up." Inuyasha tilted his head at the girl, only to let it be since Kagome complained about this stuff all the time.
"Kagome! Chase is here. I think he-- Whoa!" Kagome's mom called from downstairs followed by the sound of clawed feet running up stairs. Chase, in his dragon form, pawed at the door while letting out a light roar.
Inuyasha opened it and chuckled. "Hey there." Chase thumped his tail happily and nudged the two in greeting. After that he grabbed Kagome and dragged her out of the room gently, Inuyasha close behind.
"Chase, what are you doing?! I need to study! And where's Kari?!" Kagome yelped. Chase only rolled his eyes and transformed into his dog form and continued to lead Kagome and Inuyasha to where Kari was. Not long later the three were standing in front of an unconscious Kari, Chase whined and nudged the girl only to have an annoyed groan be his reply.
"What happened?" Inuyasha stepped up, feeling Kari's sweaty forehead. "She's burning up." He informed in a low tone while looking towards Kagome, worry lacing his words. Kagome gulped.
"Alright. Inuyasha, take her to my place and put her in my bed. Chase and I will go shopping for medicine. We'll meet you back at my place." The teen informed then walked off with Chase. Inuyasha sighed and picked Kari up bridal style and carried her back to Kagome's house then tucked her in teen's bed.
Not long later Chase and Kagome arrived with medicine and went up to Kari and Inuyasha. The girl was asleep, tucked under the covers with a cool rag on her forehead. Her face was a bit flush and she had small b3ads of sweat dripping down her cheeks. Inuyasha was sitting nearby with his legs crossed and his arms in the opposing sleeves. He had his eyes closed and his ears perked up, in an alerted position. Once he heard the two walk in, he looked up with half opened eyes. Kagome had a big smile on her face while Chase sat next to the teen with an indifferent expression, in his dragon form.
"What?" The half demon asked.
"You care about her." Kagome stated.
Inuyasha widened eyes in shock. "Wai-wait a second! Who said you could say that?! I don't care about her!"
"Yes you do. Your actions are speaking louder than your words. I remember when Kari was taken you were either moping around, or looking frantically." Kagome taunted. Chase cooed in agreement.
"You," Inuyasha looked at the dragon. "Are not apart of this. And I don't care about her! Besides, I..." The half demon frowned. "I was there. Right There, and I didn't do anything. I could've used Tetsusaiga but I didn't." Inuyasha sighed then looked at Kagome. "She's just. You know, a kid." Kagome rolled her eyes. Kari let out a groan and opened her eyes.
"Huh?" She asked then looked to the three in the room. "You guys are loud." She stated then yawned.
"Morning." Kagome smiled. "I got you some medicine. Here." The teen handed Kari a pill and a glass of water. Kari sniffed the pill then took the water and swallowed the pill with a drink of water. She made a disgusted face after a few seconds.
"It's bitter." She said with her tongue stuck out.
Kagome gave the girl a nervous smile. "Sorry, but it'll help you get better. I promise. Mom's making soup, I'll bring it up when it's done." The teen informed. "Welp, how does a bath sound?"
"Sounds like too much work." Kari yawned.
"It'll help you feel better. I've done it before." Kagome sighed. Kari shook her head. Chase huffed then picked up the child like a lion cub and looked at Kagome, using eye motions to get the teen to lead him towards the bath. Kagome did so and began getting a bath ready. She then began to bath the girl as she napped in the tub, Chase shrunk himself and swam in the water for a while and sometimes sat on Kari. Inuyasha went down stairs and watched TV with Sota and Kagome's grandpa.
Eventually Kari was put back in Kagome's bed, with Chase curled by the bed, and the teen went to get some soup for Kari. As Kagome left Kari began to glow a dim silver and float about a foot over the bed, the covers still draped over her. Chase looked up and stared at Kari for a moment, only to let her be. He did keep his eye on her though. Soon Kagome walked back in and saw the girl floating above her bed. Kagome gasped in shock, only to remember what Kari did not too long ago. She sighed and put the soup on the dresser and began to get Kari back on the bed. She groaned and got Inuyasha.
"Geez, I'll help." The half demon groaned and walked into Kagome's room. "What am I-- WHAT THE HELL?!" He yelled upon seeing Kari floating.
"Shhh!! I just need help getting her down." Kagome stated.
"But she's floating! She's a human! She shouldn't be floating!"
"Well, she did-- Oh, wait. Sango and I knocked you out." Kagome chuckled. "Oops. Long story short, Kari has powers. Now help, please?" Inuyasha hit his face with his palm and began pulling Kari onto the bed.
Once it was night time, everyone went to bed. Kagome's mom said Kari could stay until she was better. Inuyasha went back to the feudal era to let the others know about Kari. Kagome set up a sat next to her bed, letting the girl stay in her bed. When Inuyasha came back, he saw the two asleep and sighed. Chase, who was curled on Kari's feet, perked up with a growl.
"Hey Chase. It's only me." Inuyasha stated in a hushed voice. Chase blinked, his golden eyes glowing in the darkness. He cooed happily then got up and nudged Inuyasha in greeting then went back to snuggling with Kari. The half demon let out a content chuckle, sat by the now closed window and took his sword off his hip and into his lap, crossed his legs and put his arms in his opposing sleeves and closed his eyes to rest.
About two days later Kari was feeling much better. She woke up early and snuck out with her things and fled the shrine with Chase in his dog form. Chase let out a disappointed whine.
"Don't give me that. Besides, I've caused them enough trouble!" Kari shrieked as she felt someone pick her up. The child was turned to see a face she thought she never thought she'd see again. A face she never wanted to see again. "You." She growled with narrowed eyes.
"It's been a while. How have you been?" A teen boy asked. He wore a maroon t shirt with gold colored sleeves, dark blue jeans and black shoes. His hair was black with a purple streak on the sides and was slicked back. His eyes were emerald green and the left part of his lip was pierced with a dark steel colored ring. He smirked at Kari.
"Lemme go, Isao." Kari growled, barely remembering the young adult. Isao huffed.
"Sorry short stuff, boss wants you back. I'm gonna bring you back to him."
"But I don't want to go back to that place!"
"Kari?!" A voice called. It was Kagome.
Kari gasped. "Great." Kari grumbled in annoyance. "Put me down, Isao!"
"Who's that?" He asked with a smirk. "Don't you remember what--"
"Yeah, yeah, I know what he said. But that was then. This is now. And honestly," Kari looked down with a sigh. She mumbled something, just loud enough for Isao to hear, but no one else. She then snapped her head back up, glaring daggers at the teen and growled. "Chase, sick 'em!" Kari called and Chase pounced on Isao and helped Kari out of his grasp. The girl was glowing a dim silver as she was released from the teen's clutches. She sighed in relief only to be picked up again. Kari tensed her body and stopped glowing.
"You really think we wouldn't find you?" The girl relaxed. It was only Inuyasha, wearing a yellow bandanna to hide his ears. She was turned to face him, he looked pretty upset with the girl.
"No. I knew you would." She informed with a sigh. "But I knew if I stayed then Kagome would try and get me to stay. And I don't wanna burden her even more." Chase huffed and let Isao up. The teen grumbled and ran away with a yelp. Inuyasha sighed and put the child down. Kagome quickly ran up, only to skid to a stop not long later. She looked at Kari with a disappointed glare.
"Why would you just leave like that?! I mean, why?! You scared me half to death!" Kari frowned. "Never, ever, do that again." Kari nodded. Kagome scolded the girl a bit more then let her be after a while. The teen hesitantly left Kari while Inuyasha followed. The day went on and Kari went back to the feudal era, since Kagome wanted to head back after she ate dinner.
Kari and Chase were soon in the forest of the feudal era, walking towards Kaede's village. The two were soon stopped by a man in his mid thirties. He had dark brown hair and a pair of dark brown eyes. He wore a black kimono top, similar to a karate or kendo top, and similar pants. Around his waist was a white sash. Once the man saw the girl, he smiled.
"Kari Himura?" He asked. Chase eyed the man with a low growl. Kari nodded. "I was sent here to help you with a certain something. I'm sure you know what." He informed. Kari hummed while staring at the odd man. "Oh, how rude of me. I forgot to introduce myself." He cleared his throat. "My name is Jirota. Pleasure to meet you."
"Uh, same." Kari stated with a skeptical expression. Jirota smiled then handed Kari a scroll.
"Tell your friends about this meeting after reading the scroll. If you have any questions, just ask it." He pointed to the scroll with a smile then walked away. Kari watched the man then blinked. When she opened her eyes, he was gone. Chase stared in the direction of where the man vanished, as well as Kari. The girl swiftly opened the scroll and began to read it aloud.
"Special teaching. For those with a special ability/special abilities that can not be controlled will be visited and given this scroll. Training takes a few months, more or less depending on the student's ability/abilities. Please be prepared. Located anywhere needed." She hummed and went towards the village with Chase, closing the scroll and holding it in her right hand. "I don't know. It might help a bit." Kari sighed and looked to Chase. The dragon huffed and continued onwards. "Yeah. Let's check it out. But, located anywhere. That's kinda weird." She sighed then entered the village.
