2. Burn
He couldn't believe what he had just seen.
•
Luke had came home from school and went straight for his room. He ran up the stairs and went into his room immidiately since his door is always open.
He threw his backpack aside and let himself fall onto his bed faced down.
He had just so much homework to do.
Luke sighed as he rested himself on his elbows. He really wasn't in the mood for homework. He just wanted to sleep. Maybe he could..just lay back down again..close his eyes and-
"LUCAS ROBERT HEMMINGS!!"
Luke flinched awake from the sudden scream of his mother. oh no, the full name.
"GET DOWN HERE IMMIDIATELY!" Liz yelled from downstairs. Luke could've sworn his dead grandmother would have heard her from down in the ground.
Luke sighed as he got up and left his room. He stumbeled down stairs and went into the kitchen to see his mom with crossed arms and an attitude attached to her face.
"Yes mom?" Luke asked softly.
"Aunt Lauren is coming this evening with Mary-Jane" Liz started. Oh no.
"I need you to do the dishes you didn't finish! And make the tea right after...I need to get some grocceries" Liz said as she grabbed her car key from the kitchen table.
"Why do they have to come today?" Luke said as he whined. "Because aunt Lauren will be going to the Bahammas soon" Liz said sternly.
"The Bahammas, what will she do th-"
"Get the dishes started Lucas" Liz said cutting Luke off and kissed his forehead before leaving the kitchen.
Luke sighed as he rubbed his eyes tiredly before grabbing a sponge and soap. Things would be a lot easier if they had a dish washer.
Luke was finnaly done with cleaning all the dirty dishes and reached for the kettle. He filled it with water and let it cook.
Luke then let himself have a break and rested against the kitchen counter shile dozing off in reality.
Luke flinched a bit when he heard the door bell ring suddenly. Luke sighed as he straightend his posture and walked to the front door.
Luke peeked trough the whole in the door. There they were. Luke opened the door and instantly regretted it.
"Oh Lucas my dear!" Aunt Lauren said happily as she could ever be. Mary-Jane shyly stood by her side and smiled.
Mary-Jane was the daughter of a good friend of Aunt Lauren. She was also at their main church every Sunday. The thing with Mary-Jane was that she has always had a small crush on Luke ever since they were young.
Sadly.
Luke just wasn't interested and he tried to be as kind as possible to show it, but she never really got the clue.
"Hello Aunt..Jane" Luke said and gave Mary-Jane a smile. "Well uhh, come on in, My mom is getting some grocceries..she'll be back soon" Luke explained as he opened the door widely and let the two ladies in.
"Is your mom still working on that wooden baby crib?" Lauren asked as she stepped inside and examined the livingroom.
"Uhh..I'm not sure" Luke said as he closed the door. "Well..tell your mom if she doesn't finish before the baby is here that I'll get your old baby crib from the attic" Lauren said and pinched Luke's cheek. Luke smiled trough the pain.
Not only will there be a newborn Hemmings on the way, there was also a baby shower which means family gatherings, gosh Luke disliked those.
"Would you two like some tea?" Luke asked. "Yes please" Jane said as she tugged a piece of hair behind her ear. "You heard the lady" Lauren said playfully and sat down on the couch along with Jane.
Luke went into the kitchen and let out a breathe, he was so tired. He just wanted to sleep.
He took the kettle of the heating element before pouring it in two mugs. He then putted the mugs, sugar and box of teas onto a tray before walking into the livingroom again.
"Luke you're such a gentleman" Lauren said and chuckled. Luke just chuckled along and placed down the tray for the two.
Luke trembeld a bit and without noticing his hand got collided with the hot water. The mug had fallen onto his side.
Luke sucked in a breathe. Be silent be silent be silent.
"Oh gosh are you okay?" Jane asked as she stood up in shock. Luke bit his lip. His hand was shaking slightly.
"Luke you shoul-"
Lauren started saying something, but he just decided to run to the bathroom.
He ran up the stairs and went into the bathroom.
"First water" Luke said softly as he opened the sink and let the cold water touch his burnt hand. He let his hand be there for a good minute before turning the sink off and drying his hand with a towel.
He putted some aloe vera cream on it and decided not to bandage it. His grandfather always said that the heat has to come out and not stay in.
He didn't really understand. Oh well, his grandfather had thaught him way more than his parents ever did, it was sad but true.
It wasn't because they didn't love Luke, but their son was vunerable. Luke was like their priced possesion. He was perfect.
Luke relaxed as his tensions released. He decided to grab a vest from out of his room when he saw it.
The window was open like always which gave Luke a clear view. He immidiately had stopped in his tracks.
It was Ashton and some guy with red flaming hair being all over each other...
The were panting and Ashton was taking his shirt off.
Luke couldn't believe his eyes. God wouldn't be proud of Luke staring, yet Luke couldn't help it. He even licked his lips. Luke realized what he was doing and cut off back into reality.
This was wrong! Oh so wrong! He decided to close the window and curtains, but before he could get to them, a pair of eyes had met his.
"Aye!" Ashton yelled in a deep voice. Luke panicked as he didn't know what to do. He awkwardly closed his window and curtains.
If he didn't seem like a complete creep, he must've now. Luke stepped away from the window.
He couldn't believe what he had just seen!
His eyes were wide as he swallowed harshly. Oh how he wish he didn't burn his hand.
He tried to not think about it anymore and pretend like nothing had happened.
Luke quickly went back down to the guests and saw that his mom had arrived back home. The door was open as bags of grocceries stood by the door.
"Omg Luke, are you okay?" Liz said as she approached Luke and grabbed his hand.
"Yes mom, I'm fine" Luke said. "Need a hand with the grocce-" Before Luke could even continue his sentence, his eyes widdened.
If this day couldn't be any worse..
Ashton Irwin had entered their porch and had a serious expression on his face. He was gonna tell his mom..
Luke would be over and done within seconds. If his mom would find out he was staring at..that, he'd get killed.
Luke quickly walked to the door with puppy eyes. He felt guilty. Ashton looked angry.
"Ma'am" Ashton said and crossed his arms. Luke looked up at him with pleading eyes.
...
It was over.
"Could I help you with any grocceries I saw you were struggling a bit" Ashton then said and smiled.
Luke felt like he could breathe again. How dare he!
"Oh" Liz said suprised. "That's very nice of you, I could defenitely use some help now since my Luke had burned his hand just now" Liz explained.
"Oh, is that so?" Ashton said as he looked at Luke. Luke couldn't anything but to stare down in defeat.
"Well, I hope you be a bit more carefull next time" Ashton said and winked at Luke, reffering to the recent situation.
"Y-Yes" Luke said and mentally face palmed himself.
