Chapter three

San Antonio, Texas

Ryan

Ms. Garcia was coming closer. She spoke as she walked. "Why are you kids trying to leave, you'll never survive out in the real world. Even if you do escape we're going to find you. You're a danger to the world, it's best if you stay here."

She keep talking, when she was about three feet in front of us she stopped walking.

"Stay back!" Jackson said.

Ms. Garcia did not move, she was frozen, a few seconds later she fell to the ground.

"Is she dead?" Emily asked.

Sam said. "I hope so."

I walked over to her and felt her pulse. "Yep she's dead." I confirmed.

I looked to see how Jayden and the others were doing with the fence. They made a hole big enough for us to fit through.

"Come on guys." We walked to the fence.

"You guys ready to be free?" Jayden asked, smiling.

"Yeah!" I rooted.

We all went through the whole one by one.

"Where do we go now?" Hannah asked.

"An abandoned house." Jayden replied. "No one will be living there so we can stay there."

"Great idea!" Emily said.

We found an abandoned house, and we slept there for the night.

Hannah

The next morning, we left the abandoned house and walked. We grabbed our backpacks and our small suitcases and began walking around San Antonio. We're walking around neighborhoods with plenty of space. A different neighborhood from where Ms. Garcia's body is.

"I have an idea guys." Samuel said.

"Okay, what's the idea?" Isabella asked.

"We convince someone that we are helpless children and get them to house us." Samuel said, he sounded real proud of that plan.

"That's not a bad plan, but what happens when they find out we have powers." I said.

Samuel frowned. "Thanks for killing my vibe. I don't know, we leave, I guess."

I shrugged "So none of these homes will be permanent?"

"I don't think so." Sam said with a frown.

We approached someone's house.

Sam was first at the door, he turned around. "Let me so the talking."

"Good luck, Sam." I said.

He smiled. "I don't need it." He knocked on the door.

A lady opened it. She looked shocked at how many of us there were.

"Hello ma'am would you be kind enough to house us?" Sam asked.

The lady closed the door.

"Let's try again." Jayden suggested.

"Yeah, it can be that hard." Jackson added.

I groaned. "This is gonna be a long day."

Samuel

We went to the next house and asked.

"Would you be nice enough to house us?" I asked.

They closed the door.

We tired a different house.

"Would you be nice enough to house us?"

The rejected us.

But we didn't give up. We tried seven more times but they all said no.

"If this person doesn't say yes, we're going to have to try a different plan." Hannah said.

"Do you have a different plan?" Isabella asked.

"No." Hannah said, sadly.

I knocked on the door. "Would you please be nice enough to house us, Don'tCloseThatDoor!"

The lady smiled at us. "Sure, come in."

Yes! Finally, I'm happy now. We all walked into her house.

"How many are there if you?" She asked.

"Eight." I said. Unsure what she was going to do once she heard that.

She smiled. "Well we have plenty of rooms, you may have to share though. I'm Amelia."

"Honey, who was at the door?" A guy walked into the room. He was shocked to see us.

"This is my husband Kyle." Amelia introduced.

"Wait are they staying here?" Kyle asked, he sounded confused.

"They need a place to stay." Amelia argued.

"Plus everyone we asked said no, you guys are the only ones who said yes. We have nowhere else to go." Emily said.

"Fine, you guys can stay." Kyle said, I smiled, relieved. "What are your names?"

"Hannah, Emily, Madison, Isabella, Jackson, Ryan, Jayden and I'm Samuel." I gestured to everyone as I said their names.

"Wow that's a lot, how many of you are there?" Kyle asked.

I smiled. "Eight."

"Oh I think I'm gonna faint." Kyle panicked.

"And were all teenagers." Hannah added with a smile.

"Not helping." Madison whispered as she nudged Hannah, but Madison kept a smile on her face as she did that.

"Sorry." Hannah looked down.

"Kyle go sit down or something, I'll get these kids into rooms." Amelia started walking up the stairs. We all followed her.

Sam

"We have something to tell you." Jayden said.

Amelia looked up from her food. "Okay, what is it?"

We were eating lunch and we all knew that the shots were going to wear off.

"We're not regular kids." Hannah said.

"We have powers." I said.

Amelia and Kyle looked shocked.

"But we don't know what they are yet." Ryan said.

"So we need to be able to trust you. You can't let the government know we're living here." Madison said.

"Amelia, we need to talk." Kyle said.

She nodded and they left the kitchen.

Amelia

"We have to help them." I said once we were in the living room. "If we don't help these kids, their lives could be messed up and it will be our fault."

Kyle smiled. "I do want to help, I just wanted to make sure if you wanted to help too."

I hugged him. "I'm glad you agree."

"Me too."

Berlin, Germany

Aiden

Two days later I decided to call the number on the card.

"I'm Aiden Dawson. One of your men approached me about an opportunity about tech. I'm in." I spoke. They gave me an address and a date. In a few hours, I would go to that address. I couldn't wait.

So I decided to quit my current job and spent the next few hours relaxing. I better get this job, I quit my old one for it.

A few hours later

Aiden

Two days later, I arrived at the address on the paper. It was a large building, a facility maybe. It said Cosmosis in large letters. I parked my car and walked until I got to the door. There were guards at the door. One female and one male.

"State your business." The female one said.

"I'm here for the engineering/ tech program."

They moved aside. I walked in and was greeted by a guy. Dark brown hair and blue eyes. He gave me a smile then spoke. "I'm Eric Newman, and I run this company. You are?" He shook my
hand.

"I'm Aiden Dawson." He nodded and let go of my hand

"Nice to meet you, follow me."

We walked to a room where a bunch of other people were. I guess these were the people I'm competing against for the job. There were seven other people in the room besides me and Mr. Newman. I stood by the group of people and waited for institutions. This is when I began to doubt myself.

What if I'm not smart enough?

What if I don't get the job?

Do I even have a chance?

"Thank you all for being here today. I'm Eric Newman, but you can call me Mr. Newman. I know you're all here for the tech positions. We only have two spots available. The way we determine who gets those spots will be by who scores the highest on the test. Everyone will get the same time and same questions. No cheating will be tolerated. Any questions so far?"

No one said anything.

"You will get two hours to finish the test. What you don't finish will be counted against you. What you get wrong, will be counted against you. Follow me." Mr. Newman led us to a different room. There were desk in rows like a classsroom. Some desk had iPads on them, others were blank. They had the iPads spread out from other, to prevent cheating. "This is where you'll be taking your test. Find a desk with an iPad on it. Remember you have two hours to take the test."

Everyone found a seat.

"No talking, good luck." Mr. Newman left the room and closed the door behind him.

No one talked even though there wasn't anyone monitoring us in the room. I assumed we were being watched anyways, so I wasn't going to risk cheating and getting caught. I'm sure they installed cameras in the room.

I decided to start my test. It asked me to enter my first and last name.

Aiden Dawson

Then I asked for my age

Twenty two

Then the test started. The test was easy, too easy. You know those test that you feel are really easy but you end up failing them. I hope that doesn't happen to me.

I was the fifth person to finish. Once everyone was done they took us back to the room we were in before we took the test. Mr. Newman appeared.

"I am very pleased with your test results. Very outstanding. But as you know, we only have two spots available." Mr. Newman announced. He smiled when he said that he was pleased with our results. I wish he would just tell us who got the positions. "The first spot goes to......Sylvia West, with a whopping score of 5,000 points."

Sylvia smiled. "Thank you Mr. Newman, it's an honor to work for you." She had dark brown straight hair and dark brown eyes.

"You've earned it. Now the second spot goes to.........Bryce Hawkins, with the second best score of 4,980 points."

Bryce face lit up with excitement. "Really?" He asked.

"No. We found out that you cheated. So your out." Mr. Newman said bluntly.

That wiped the smile off of Bryce face.

"We were watching you guys the whole time. We said no cheating. Guards, escort this young man." Two guards appeared and escorted Bryce. Bryce cursed at the guards the whole time.

Mr. Newman waited until he couldn't hear Bryce to continue talking. "Sorry about that, let's continue. The last spot goes to Aiden Dawson with a score of 4,970 points."

I smiled as I heard my name. "Thank you sir, it's an honor to work for you."

"You deserve this spot. As for the rest of you, thank you for your corporation, we won't be needing your services anymore. I will let you all know if we have another job opening." Mr. Newman said. Everyone started walking out.

I stayed and so did Sylvia. I was excited, but I hid it well.

"You guys get to go home later today and come back tomorrow, with packed bags. Bring everything you need from your house, because you'll be moving in here. Katrina here will set you up." He pointed to a lady dressed formally. She had short dark brown hair that was a bob and blue eyes. "I will meet with you guys later today." He walked away.
