Chapter 5: Chocolate mousse
"It's all about men, men, men, men! Pffft! Ugh!"
May and Dawn didn't dare speak one word when Misty was in her hate mode. The two girls had no idea why she seemed like she was faking it this time, but it was impossible. Misty was the queen of the male-hate. She could not be faking it. Nope, they were just hallucinating.
And since boys topics were not allowed when Misty was around, May doesn't speak about Drew, and Dawn doesn't speak about Paul either. Honestly, conversations with Misty are boring, because boys make good gossip topics.
Not even makeup was allowed, because Misty thinks girls put it so they can look pretty for the boys. May and Dawn didn't know from where she got those ideas. Yes, part of it was to look nice, but not just for the boys, and there is also another part of it which makes girls feel confident in themselves and more feminine. Misty's arguments made no sense.
"You know what, girls? I met a guy."
Dawn gasped and accidentally dropped her cup of coffee. It got sprawled all over the table. She and May started cleaning it with the paper tissues.
"What?"
"What?"
Misty cleared her throat. "I meant—I got in a fight with a guy."
"Oh."
"Oh..."
"What—what happened?"
"I think he was stalking me..." Misty rubbed her palm with her other hand. May and Dawn knew she only did that when she was very nervous, in addition of comfort eating, of course. "Well, never mind. It's nothing important."
"Are you okay, Misty?"
"Yes, I am fine. Why wouldn't I be? I took care of the jerk!" Misty shrugged her shoulders and leaned back on her chair. She picked up her cheesecake and started eating quickly.
"Misty... did you just try to start a gossip session about boys?"
"NO!" Misty snapped at Dawn's face and took a spoonful of her cheesecake. She could feel some of the people at the coffee shop stare at her. She spoke in a lower voice, "I said no! Don't be stupid! Don't say that ever again!"
May giggled, and Misty didn't like her giggle at all.
"No, not you too, May..."
"Hey, Dawn's right! For a second, you sounded as if you were trying to talk about guys!"
"As if!"
"Okay! Okay! Don't get mad. You just sounded... well, It's weird. I don't know. May?"
May bit her lip and smiled. "Who is this guy whom you got in a fight with anyway? Tell us."
No, they weren't going to speak about boys. Nope. "No one."
"Is he cute?"
Misty glared at Dawn. The latter grinned and started sipping her lemon juice. The redhead ate what remained of her cheesecake quickly and attacked the chocolate mousse May ordered. The brunette raised an eyebrow at her and sighed.
"Just describe him, Misty. Don't say if he's cute or not, okay? Just a description."
"Yeah. That's not a judgment. Just give us a description."
Misty had no frigging clue how she got herself in this. "He has black hair..."
"Yeeees..." Dawn hid her smile behind her mouth. May did too. They were feeling like bursting into hard laughter because the sight of Misty speaking about a guy without insulting him is hilarious and historical at the same time.
"His skin is... tanned."
"Okay."
Misty took a deep breath. Her two friends knew that sooner or later, she will have to give a judgment. They knew.
"His eyes are hazel. They're clear—no wait, they're not that clear. They're like... chocolate mousse." Misty looked down at the small bowl of May's chocolate mousse and ate a couple of spoonfuls.
"When the light hits them, they turn clear, and they look more hazel."
She looked up. May and Dawn looked like they could explode in hard laughter at any moment. Their faces were red.
"Is something wrong?"
"No..."
"Go on..."
Misty raised her eyebrow. She was just describing, right? "He's toned and muscular, but not too big."
"Uhm."
"He's tall. I could reach him... here." Misty placed her hand on the top of her upper arm.
"Aw—I mean, go on."
Misty started to glare again. "He has a beard, but it's barely visible. His face was shaved today."
"Oh, you saw him several times?"
Misty realized she was speaking too much. This wasn't making her feel good at all. "No—no, I meant, he looks like his face is shaved..."
"Oh, okay..." May chose to drop it this time. She elbowed Dawn who elbowed her back.
"And... he has a car... a sports car. It's white. I did not pay attention to the brand though. I had no idea what's it, but it looks pretty nice." Misty looked dreamy for a moment. She slowly leaned back on her chair and picked up the chocolate mousse bowl.
The two girls started elbowing each other again. Misty was slowly drifting away from the description...
"And he's really annoying, you know? Very, very annoying."
"Uhm..."
Misty ate few spoonfuls of the chocolate mousse. "His name is Ash. He helped me with my car last night. I had a flat tire and he fixed it. He was pretty rude, to be honest. He said rude stuff to me."
Dawn was about to speak up but May stopped her. She pointed at Misty, who looked totally dreamy and lost in thoughts.
"Then he followed me... and he stole a business card from my car. I saw him this morning—he was wearing a tight tank top. He has abs—well, he's muscular and toned, but not too big."
Dawn and May were still trying to contain the laughter. Misty was looking totally ridiculous. She's even starting to repeat what she's said!
"He said he is an accountant, and he can work from home. He didn't say how old he is but he looks like he is my a—hey!"
Dawn and May jumped up when Misty leaned forward. "Description finished!"
"Okay?"
"Okay..."
"Heh! You think that got me? Nonsense!" Misty ate what's left of the mousse and placed the now empty bowl on the table. She was feeling totally nervous because she knew she spoke a lot. She couldn't believe herself!
"Well, he sounds-"
"End of discussion!"
May winked "Abs?"
Dawn winked too. "Chocolate mousse?"
Misty gasped. "YOU TWO! You—you—what—you got it all wrong!"
"Yeah right."
"Stop it! I'm serious!"
"You're falling in love-"
"-NOT!" Misty shouted, gaining once more odd looks from the people at the coffee shop. She cleared her throat and tried to sit on her chair without jumping much. "Don't you dare say that ever again! It's stupid and ridiculous!"
"Well, maybe you never fell for any guy..." May began and looked t Dawn.
"But when you did..." Dawn bit her lip and giggled.
"You fell hard." May and Dawn said in unison and nodded. Misty held her head in her hands and hoped this nightmare ends quickly.
"It's alright, Misty. We're gir—I mean, we're humans..." May regained herself at the last moment. She didn't want to sound 'sexist'.
"Yeah... humans..."
Misty looked up and took a deep breath.
"It's high time you realized you had feelings too, Misty."
Dawn chose to shut up. She wasn't sure if Misty was ready to hear the truth or not. She thought May said it too quickly.
"You have feelings. You can't keep holding them back forever."
Misty's world was crumbling down.
What she did do to deserve this?
Why did her tire have to go flat last night?
Why did a guy have to fix it?
Why did she have to meet this Ash?
Why isn't she mad about talking about him and to him? Why the hell she wants to see him again? He was a man, and men stink, and they suck. Men are the enemy.
"I have to go."
The two watched as their friend collected her stuff and put them inside her bag, before she left the coffee shop.
"Well, how rude, leaving up pay for her stuff while she just met a rich guy with a sports car."
"She's still trying to digest the fact that she likes him. Give her a break."
"Oh yes, the chocolate mousse."
The two friends laughed and started now their little gossip session about boys.
To be continued.
