Chapter 11: Epiphany
Misty's hands were trembling, and she was trying hard to contain herself and relax. She was stuffing herself with Oreo's in a quick manner.
"And it sent him away running, and I didn't see him the whole day later on."
May and Dawn had their mouths hang open, their bodies frozen, and their brains incapable of believing what has their friend just told them.
"So are you telling me that..."
"... You chased him away by throwing rocks at him and at his car?"
"Exactly."
May slapped her forehead few times. Dawn hid her face with her hands. "Why on earth you'd do that? It's so childish and stupid!"
"Hey! Take that back! That guy was stalking-"
"When are you going to stop this whole comedy?" May snapped at her friend. She was too serious this time and she was scaring Misty. "Ash didn't hurt you in any way! He was just trying to be your friend!"
"No! He was not!"
"Yes, he was! Instead of acting like a responsible twenty three years old woman, you acted like a kid! You hurt the poor man and now he'll never come around again!"
Misty didn't know what to say. She wanted to cry out loud that she didn't want Ash around anymore, but that would be a lie, and her friends always caught her lies.
In fact, she knew she acted in a very childish manner, and she owes Ash an apology.
But Misty never admits this sort of things, not even to herself.
Especially that the matter concerned a guy now.
"I don't care!"
"Yes, you do!" It was Dawn's turn to snap her friend out of it. "What would he think of you right now? Have you ever seen a respectful woman in her twenties throw rocks at a guy in the streets? We're not living in a forest or a jungle! This is totally unacceptable!"
"Hey! What are you trying to say?" This conversation was starting to make Misty feel mad and guilty.
"He's probably thinking you're a weirdo right now! Or even a crazy woman!"
"That's because she is crazy, Dawn."
"Take that back now!" Misty shouted back at May. This latter didn't look too happy with her friend's accomplishment.
"I'm not. And you know what? You owe Ash an apology. You should apologize for your childish and immature behavior. You should even offer to pay for any damage in his car."
"You're not the boss of me!"
"Maybe I'm not, but I'm your friend, and I want the best for you. This hating-on-men thing got too far, and I can't keep watching while you throw rocks at good guys who just want to be friend with you. You're doing it wrong, Misty."
"I can't believe my own friend did such an immature thing! This is so embarrassing!" Dawn gasped and hid her face with her hands.
"I feel you, Dawn."
"You don't get it! He was stalking me! It got creepy!" Misty was trying more to convince herself that she's done the right thing than explain herself to the girls.
"No, it didn't. You enjoyed it, Misty. Admit it."
"What? That's crazy!"
Dawn snatched the Oreo's pack from Misty's hands and threw it to the ground.
"Listen to me, Misty Williams; Ash can easily fill a claim or a police report. Did you think about that? Did you?"
"W-what?"
"No one told you? Well, now you know! He won't be getting much from the insurance company since it's a sports car and no one wants to pay for their expensive car parts, so he'll be coming soon to you, and you will pay for all the damage you caused!"
"Don't be silly!"
"I'm not silly, this is serious. I don't want to be in your shoes. Those pretty cars have pretty bills too."
"Yeah."
"Whose..." Misty turned red in the face. She was starting to realize how embarrassing and dangerous her reaction was. "Whose side are you on?"
"Ash's side of course!"
"This is embarrassing... oh my God, Misty. I never expected you to act this way..." Dawn groaned and kept her face buried in her hands.
She's called the girls so they can make her feel better, now they just made things worse. Misty was feeling totally stupid and crappy. She wanted to die.
May noticed her friend's face get too pale. Maybe the redhead was fair skinned but not that fair skinned. "Well... chances are very low he'll fill any report, but Misty, come on! What you did was totally uncalled for!"
"I want to apologize to him and I didn't even do anything wrong," said Dawn with a deep sigh.
"Me too, Dawn. The poor guy... he probably got hit all over. He'll hate Misty for life."
May glared at her redhead friend. Misty cleared her throat. "You're overreacting."
"I don't think we did, Misty."
"I would never apologize to Ash and you know it!"
"Ha! Good! Then be ready to pay for the damage you caused."
"Yeah. Better tighten your belt and stop wasting money on snacks and whatever. You'll need that money."
"Heey!"
"What? I'm just being honest. Don't give me that kind of reactions."
What the hell Misty has just gotten herself into?
To be continued.
