Chapter 14: Caras Galadhon

Haldir led the Fellowship through a labyrinth of winding paths in the woods until they reached a hill overlooking Caras Galadhon. Legolas, sensing the uneven ground, wrapped an arm around Tauriel's waist to steady her.

"I got you, my love," Legolas said softly, his voice a comforting presence.

Tauriel smiled gratefully. "Thank you, Legolas."

"Caras Galadhon. The heart of Elvendom on earth. Realm of the Lord Celeborn and of Galadriel, Lady of Light," Haldir announced, his tone reverent.

The Fellowship stood in awe as they took in the breathtaking sight of Caras Galadhon, its silver lights twinkling like stars amidst the trees. They began their ascent up a winding stairway carved into the ancient trees, leading them toward the grand court of Galadriel and Celeborn.

As they reached the grand court, a luminous glow issued forth, heralding the descent of the Lord and Lady of Lothlorien, hand in hand. The Fellowship bowed respectfully. Aragorn touched his head in reverence.

"The enemy knows you have entered here. What hope you had in secrecy is now gone. Nine that are here yet ten there were set out from Rivendell. Tell me where is Gandalf. For I much desire to speak with him. I can no longer see him from afar," Celeborn said, his voice tinged with concern.

Galadriel looked at Aragorn, reading the answer in his eyes. "Gandalf the Grey did not pass the borders of this land. He has fallen into Shadow," she said, her voice heavy with sorrow.

Celeborn looked at her in wonder. "He was taken by both Shadow and Flame. A Balrog of Morgoth. For we went needlessly into the net of Moria," Legolas explained, wrapping his arm around Tauriel's waist again for comfort.

Galadriel's eyes fell upon Tauriel standing next to Legolas. "Needless were none of the deeds of Gandalf in life. We do not yet know his full purpose," she said, her gaze softening as it shifted to Gimli. "Do not let the great emptiness of Khazad-dum fill your heart, Gimli, son of Gloin. For the world has grown full of peril. And in all lands love is now mingled with grief."

Galadriel then looked at Boromir with a piercing gaze. He began to shake, casting his eyes downwards. "What now becomes of this Fellowship? Without Gandalf, hope is lost," Celeborn remarked.

"The quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little and it will fail to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true," Galadriel declared. She smiled at Sam, who gazed at her in awe. "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Go now and rest, for you are weary with sorrow and much toil. Tonight you will sleep in peace."

As Galadriel welcomed Frodo of the Shire in his mind, the Fellowship began to disperse to the resting area provided for them. The hobbits settled down, and in the trees, the elves' singing could be heard.

"A lament for Gandalf," Legolas said softly.

Merry looked up towards the trees. "What do they say about him?" he asked.

"I have not the heart to tell you. For me, the grief is still too near," Legolas replied, his voice filled with sorrow.

"I bet they don't mention his fireworks," Sam said, trying to lighten the mood.

Aragorn gently nudged Gimli, who was pretending to snore. He then walked over to Boromir, who was sitting alone on a great tree root.

"Take some rest. These borders are well protected," Aragorn advised.

"I will find no rest here. I heard her voice inside my head. She spoke of my father and the fall of Gondor. She said to me even now there is hope left. But I cannot see it. It is long since we had any hope. My father is a nobleman, but his rule is failing. And now our people have lost faith. He looks to me to make things right and I would do it. I would see the glory of Gondor restored. Have you ever seen it, Aragorn? The White Tower of Ecthelion, glimmering like a spike of pearl and silver, its banners caught high in the morning breeze. Have you ever been called home by the clear ringing of silver trumpets?" Boromir asked, turning towards Aragorn.

"I have seen the White City, long ago," Aragorn replied.

"One day, our paths will lead us there. And the tower guards shall take up the call: The Lords of Gondor have returned," Boromir said, his voice filled with longing.

As Aragorn and Boromir spoke, Galadriel approached Tauriel, pulling her aside gently. "The Fellowship is fortunate to have you, Lady Tauriel. But be warned, there is danger that could put you and the child you carry in peril," Galadriel said, her voice filled with concern.

Tauriel's eyes widened as she instinctively covered her stomach. "How did you know?" she asked.

"I know many things, child," Galadriel replied gently. "You and Legolas must protect your unborn daughter."

"How do you know my child is a girl? And how do you know Legolas and I are married?" Tauriel asked, her voice filled with a mix of surprise and curiosity.

"Do not worry. Your secret is safe with me. Tomorrow, before you leave, I will check on you and the baby," Galadriel reassured her.

Tauriel nodded, still processing the information, and walked back over to Legolas.

"Is everything alright?" Legolas asked, noticing the look on her face.

"She knows," Tauriel replied, her voice soft.

"Who knows?" Legolas asked, concern etching his features.

"Galadriel. She knows that we're married and about the baby. She told me that our baby is a girl and wants to check up on me and the baby tomorrow," Tauriel explained.

Legolas smiled, placing a hand gently on her small baby bump. "How are you and our little one doing?" he asked softly.

"We're fine," Tauriel replied, covering his hand with hers.

"Any movement yet?" Legolas asked, his eyes filled with wonder.

"Sometimes I feel her faint movements when I lie down," Tauriel replied, wincing slightly.

"Are you alright, my love?" Legolas asked, concern filling his voice.

"Yes, she just moved a little," Tauriel replied, her face softening.

"Already?" Legolas asked, his voice filled with amazement.

"Yes, but very little. Can you rub my stomach to calm her down?" Tauriel asked gently.

"Of course, my love," Legolas replied, placing his hand on her stomach and rubbing it gently. "Hello, little one. It's your father. Be nice for your mother, alright?" he whispered, kissing Tauriel's stomach, causing her to giggle.

"I love you," Tauriel said, her eyes shining with affection.

"And I love you, my Tauriel," Legolas replied, pulling her close. "We'll protect our little one together."

The couple stood there, bathed in the soft glow of the elven lights, feeling the bond between them grow even stronger.
