Part XLVII: Pig skin Eye

Hey Wattpad

I wanted to inform people reading this story that I am between a rock and a hard place at the moment. I am going to go back to real lectures in November, in a neighbouring country, so I will not be updating for some time since I will be preparing to leave home.

I apologise for not updating ,where I live we have terrible power cuts or loadshedding, that and I often had no wifi.

But The Fates will be finished this year, before Christmas I'm certain.😁

Thank you so much for the support this far.

We all looked at his twisted square face grimace.
"I don't know." He whispered vulnerably.

He sighed softly and pushed his hair back before walking to me. He knelt before me. He smiled femininely and held his palm out to me.

"Allow me, my dear."
I backed away from him.
"I don't need your help." I said with gritted teeth.

His eyes dulled and he curled his fingers in before retracting his hand from me. I heaved myself up. I brushed my yellow sundress.

His eyes were sad but he looked at me intensely. His eyes resting on my cleavage revealed by the thin strapped boob tube.

I covered my chest. I asked him in Italian:

"Have you no shame?"
He frowned but a secretive smirk came onto his face. He stood up.

"Why don't you get my brother to his room, Renata?"

She scrunched her face but wasn't opposed. She escorted Caius away as he hissed like a wounded animal. Demetri interjected but Aro gave him a condescending glare.

"Why don't you inform my brother, Marcus, she has left; I will escort her out."
I gave him a frown as large as Demetri's.

"Not a chance. My boyfriend will be waiting."
Aro became still. Caius turned back.
"Boyfriend?" he said indignantly.

"Yes, boyfriend. Marcus, my boyfriend, is going to come looking for me."

Caius, with his broken nose clasped, stared aghast. He said nasally:

"Marcus would never lower himself by being with someone like you."
"Speak for yourself."

Everyone turned.
There was Marcus in the flesh, dressed in yellow shorts and a white tee.

"I don't know what you've been doing to my girlfriend but you should all stop this nonsense today. I won't tolerate it at all anymore."

Aro gave Marcus an irritated side glance.
"I actually wanted to talk to Caius myself."

What? He was such a liar.
"I found him attacking her, and our guards were watching."

"That's not true Demetri was trying to help when you popped up." I said.

Marcus sighed.
"I guess our plans will have to wait Makayla. Should I have you go home?"

I shook my head.

"Demetri can take you anywhere you want to wait; I will be right there."

No, I wanted to give his brothers a piece of my mind. He gave a pleading look and I relented.

"Just don't take too long. "

I kissed his cheek and Aro grimaced. Demetri lead me off, away from the brothers. I hoped he would be ok and Caius would not try to redirect his anger at him.

Demetri took me to the lounge where I had re-met Marcus after returning to Italy. Only when I sat in the sinless white couched room, did I feel my heart racing out of control and the whirr of my brain.

Caius had attacked me. I gulped.
And Aro had saved me. Why?

Caius had looked eerily inhuman with his white face, bared white teeth and jet-black eyes.

I quivered.

"Do you want a glass of water?" asked Demetri.
I shook my head at Demetri.
I needed to think.

"Please leave me alone to rest a bit. Marcus should be here soon."

He frowned.
"Are you sure? Will you be ok alone, here?" he said.

I nodded for good measure. He kissed me on my left cheek and departed, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

When was Marcus returning? I bit my lip and my left leg hopped excitedly. I watched the glass door. I hoped the brothers weren't fighting again because of me.

I should be happy Marcus is teaching his racist brothers a lesson.

I should be grateful for being saved from Caius' violence. But it was Aro who saved me, and Aro had proven he was unpredictable and he clearly was out for something. He wanted something from me...and whatever it was I wasn't giving it up to his white ass.

The door opened and I was greeted by a beam; long, oil hair waving as his head jerked toward me.

“Ah, Makayla darling. I was wondering where my brother left you.”

A cleft formed on his clear, white face. His eyes twinkled; they were an odd colour. The colour of pig skin. I tightened my dark palms into fists and watched my feet.

"What do you want?" I whispered tartly.
His radiant beam dropped down into a pout.

"Have I done something?" he asked innocently.
He knew what he did.
"I don't want to see you."

He sighed.
"I thought as much after our last meeting. Will you not accept my apology, my dear?"

I flinched at the term of endearment he used, often used by Marcus. From Marcus it made my heart flutter, from him it made my tummy lurch.

"I'm not your dear."
A tense silence ensued.

"Is my apology not acceptable?"
I hit the white couch.

"If you aren't apologising stop pretending you are. All you did was buy a stupid red stone and hit your brother in the face. Those are sending mixed messages. I don't even know why you helped me fight off Caius. I know you hate me."

"What made you think that?" he said blondly.

I scoffed and I looked at his lying face from beneath unamused brown eyes, glaring with rage. His pig skin eyes absorbed my emotion.

Weren't his eyes violet? Did he wear contacts; was that what he was wearing now?

That didn't matter ... I just had to get rid of him.

"Oh." The fallacies ended.
"I see," he sighed.
I nodded, tired of his act.

"I apologise for the way I reacted to you; the day Marcus introduced us. You caught me off guard. I have...never seen someone as...." he was lost for words.

"As ugly? As dark?"

Things some Italians, opposed to foreigners, had said to my face or muttered to similar skinned friends all in the name of a joke.

"As beautiful.... As ... spunky."
He knew some of my language.

"You don't know me." I retorted.
"That's true but I would like to. I'm sure we have much in common."

I shook my head.
"Who are you kidding?"
And you married, I thought silently.

He cocked his head.

As horrid as he was, he was admittedly a looker. He wore a puce round-necked t-shirt, grey silk pants and black boat shoes.

The first time he looked even slightly casual. He had tied his hair with a rubber band so it was away from his face.

He looked good.
"I truly feel that once we get to know one another we will get along." he said.

"I'll never want to know you, get that into your head and we'll both be happier."

He frowned and gaped his mouth to speak but Marcus came in behind him. I stood and smiled at him. Aro closed his mouth. His eyes shone like the sun.

I ran.

Aro opened his arms to me. Marcus opened his. I fell into his chest and inhaled his scent. Marcus enclosed me in his pale, long arms.

"Kayla."
I closed my eyes and when I opened them his brother was gone like a bad dream.

"Did Aro harass you?"
I shook my head.

"I'm fine. I hope I haven't caused a rift between you and your family."
He sighed and pulled away from me.

"The rift was created long ago. Don't blame yourself for it. I'm exhausted." he admitted.

I felt the adrenaline leave me and the weight of what happened set in.
"I'm sure you want to go." he confirmed

I shook my head and gently smiled.
"I'd rather cuddle with you but I do have classes tomorrow. So, I need to head back."

He smiled and he crinkled his eyes shut.

"I'll drive you to your flat and make you dinner to make up for these shenanigans. I don't want to leave you right now in case you go into shock. Can I sleep at your place, Kayla?"

His eyes had never done that as he smiled. He was worried for my health. He wanted to be with me. I squeezed his hand and nodded for an innumerable time that day, afraid I'd stutter if I used my voice.

He kissed my brow.
"Let's go then," I said.

Marcus that night had been nothing but a man out of my romance novels. With the train I had to travel eight hours to get back home then hail a cab to reach my neighbourhood. Then walk.

He only took four and a half hours to drive me to my flat. He drove like hell's fury. But he kept me distracted from that by singing to me or with historical anecdotes of ancient Italians or Grecians.

He met my other housemates and the girls were astounded that I brought back home such a beautiful man, me the prude. Alejandro wasn't too impressed but he kept his comments to himself for once.

He made me a nice red wine and pepper beef stew. He had ordered the ingredients from the store whilst I changed into my pyjamas. I wonder how he will sleep without pyjamas; he had not packed anything.

I stand corrected, Demetri had packed him clothes whilst we talked in private. I dunno how he knew he'd be staying over at my place.

The stew was divine. He ate the most I'd ever seen our short time together; maybe he felt shy eating around me in the beginning?

He made out with me on the couch before we slumbered, tucked into a little pod shape.

I was in heaven.
