Prologue
"Sydney! We're gonna need to head to the swap meet! Is your stuff ready?" Shouts my mom from downstairs. I roll my eyes and start piling old clothes into the box. I come across my bookshelf and wrinkle my nose. Ew. Why did I ever like reading? I mean, books are lame. I violently throw my Percy Jackson books in the box, not caring if they got damaged or not. I toss the Hunger Games books, which had eaten up my whole summer vacation between middle and high school, time that should've been spent partying. I tore the Heroes of Olympus books off my shelf. They had been what was popular at the time, but that fad was gone now. The last book to go was the Outsiders. Ugh. Ew. My teacher forced us to read it in eightth grade. I refused to accept the fact it was over. But it's over. There. No more books. I picked up the now heavy box and hurried down the stairs and into Mom's car.
We drove in silence for the first fifteen minutes, then mom's phone chirped and she checked it, then texted. Neither of us were paying attention and the car was on the wrong side of the road. A huge 18 wheeler honked it's horn and we screamed as it plowed into us.
it all went black.
