Chapter 11
Annabeth woke all of us up at the break of dawn and ordered us to follow them. We're looking for the careers. I'm extremely nervous. We walk for hours with Nico draped across Percy and Dallas' backs. We still couldn't find anyone else.
The further we got from where we were, the darker and thicker it got; the trees were all large and close together, their canopies blocking out the sun so only a few patches of light spilled onto the lush vegetation and slick mud. It grew difficult to lift our feet.
Soon, we got to a wall of trees to thick to fit your pinky through. The line went as far as we could see; there was no way around it. There was a five-foot gap between the wall of trees and the rest of the arena where it was nice and sunny and the grass was cut short. The gap went as far as we could see as well.
"This must be the edge of the arena." Ponyboy said, reaching out to touch the wall of trees.
"Don't do that!" Annabeth exclaimed, swatting the boy's hand away from the wall. "It's probably booby trapped!"
Percy looked up. "I think it's time for lunch."
We all agreed with this statement and sat down and ate a small portion of what little food we had left.
"We're gonna need to find some berries or something. I haven't seen any animals." Nico said.
"I agree with Nico. We definetly don't have enough food to last us the rest of the Games." Ponyboy said.
Suddenly, there was a cannon fire that made my stomach lurch. Then one more.
"I wonder who that was." I say.
"Well, if we make it till tonight we'll find out." Dallas said, popping a bruised, shriveled cherry into his mouth.
Annabeth looked back into the arena. "Percy and I'll go find some food." She said to us.
She and Percy dissapeared into the arena and the rest of us readied our weapons.
Percy and Annabeth didn't come back for a really long time.
Sometime around 3-ish, we heard two more cannons. I felt like I'd been stabbed in the chest and fell over and, for the first time in days, was in the white room with the beeping and the tubes going into my arm and chest. A second later, I was back in the arena.
"You okay?" Asked Ponyboy.
"Yeah. I'm fine." I replied.
"Maybe we should go look for them. They might be in danger!" Nico said.
"Yeah. I'm getting worried." Ponyboy said. Then he looked at me and continued, "Sydney, you and I are going to look for Percy and Annabeth." He turned to Dallas and Nico. "Dallas, you stay here with Nico. He needs to rest his ankle."
I stood up and followed Ponyboy into the arena.
