Eye of the beholder
Bryan is lying on a hospital bed thick white bandages, his friend Justin sitting next to him on a chair. Bryan knows if this procedure fails, like all the others, he'll be sent to a village somewhere, one filled with people like him.
"Don't worry these are the best doctors this side of the city" Justin tried comforting him. But then Nurse blue told him that visiting hours were over.
Nurse blue short black hair with the dyed blue stripe. Kept falling into his eyes, so he kept it in a little braid.
"Suspended in time and space for a moment, your introduction to Mr. Bryan Films, who lives in a very private world of darkness, a universe whose dimensions are the size, thickness, length of a swath of bandages that cover his face. In a moment, we'll go back into this room, and also in a moment, we'll look under those bandages, keeping in mind, of course, that we're not to be surprised by what we see, because this isn't just a hospital, and this patient 307 is not just a man. This happens to be The Twilight Zone, and Mr. Bryan Films, with you, is about to enter it."
3rd person.
Dr.Jones kept the lights dimmed in Bryans room, to keep his eyes from reacting badly to the bright hospital lights, and because Bryan felt comfortable in the darkness. When Dr.Green asked him why he went into a long rant, about his appearance.
one of his favorite nurses came in.
James Smith was more of a candy striper and not a nurse, but he was there all the time.
He couldn't see his face, but he knew he was normal like everyone else in this hospital, but he recognized his voice.
"James, was it a beautiful day was it warm, we're clouded out?" Bryan asked him from the bed, smiling that one of his friends were there.
"It was kind of warm, but im, not the type of guy to look at the sky." James said much to Bryans disappointment.
"I must ask, were you in some accident or something?" James asked confused as to why Bryan looked the way he did when he first saw him without the bandages.
"No I was born like this, a freak, ever since I was young people would look away in disgust, my parents didn't even acknowledge me sometimes," Bryan said, starting to tear up under his bandages.
Then a simple conversation turned into Bryan grabbing James' arm and screaming,
"I NEVER WANTED TO BE BEAUTIFUL. I WANT PEOPLE TO LOOK AT ME AND NOT SCREAM!" Bryan shouted loud enough to draw the attention of Dr.Jones, and nurse Blue making both of them restrain Bryan.
"REMOVE THEM PLEASE!" Bryan begged the doctor.
Meanwhile at the nurse's station,
"Cigarette?" asked nurse Smith to the receptionist, and she accepted, and the receptionist asked her if she's seen the face of patient 307.
"Yes I have before the procedure, it's the worst case I've ever seen."
The nurse was right, many doctors and nurses in multiple cities have tried to fix Bryans face, but all of them failed, this was his seventh surgery the legal amount he allowed to get before being sent to the village.
"He's been begging Dr.Jones to remove the bandages early, " said nurse Smith putting out her cigarette.
"He told me he'd do it in two hours," said the young man behind the counter.
Meanwhile in Bryans room,
"Mr.Films you know that removing the bandages early could change the results?" Dr.jones said, trying to confirm his decision.
"I want them off," Bryan asked almost sobbing, silently praying that the results were different from the last six.
"Mr.Films I know you're worried, but I'm telling you were full professionals here." Dr.Jones said, sitting down next to Bryan.
"When we see the results we will either call the village or call your friend" Dr.jones added, putting a hand on Bryans's shoulder.
Bryan was crying behind the many layers of bandages.
After a two hour wait, Bryan was instructed by Dr.Jones to sit in a small chair to have him cut off the bandages.
After a long while, the last layer was pulled away, and almost everyone gasped, the procedure didn't work.
Bryan felt up to feel his face, no change he started crying and tried to run out of the room, two nurses restricted him while another turned on the lights.
revealing the faces of the staff, black slanted eyes, and giant mouths.
Dr.Jones said," Hand me the needle." and another nurse reached over and handed him one.
But Bryan got away,
Bryan was running through the hallways of the hospital, seeing more people with the same features, in elevators, in the hall, and sitting on chairs.
a small tv on the wall was playing a video with a man in black shouting a speech, Bryan didn't hear most of it, but he did hear
"CONFORMITY" cried multiple times, Bryan ran from the doctor's chain ghim, and he ran into the waiting room and saw someone, he started crying more and cowered in the corner.
One nurse came up to him and just told him,
"Don't be afraid, Mr.Films. These are
representatives of the group you're to live with. Oddly enough, you've come right to them. Come on now - they won't hurt vou."
the man said motioning towards two men but in clean clothes and neat hair.
"Don't worry Bryan we won't hurt you?"Said a blonde male. He was dressed plainly in jeans and a polo.
This is Mr.Green and Mr.Pearl, Bryan. Henry and Daniel Henrys in charge of the village group in the north. Thye'll take you there tonight. You can live among your own kind now." The nurse said, lifting the poor man to his feet.
His eyes still filled with tears.
Bryan then Cautiously grabbed the blonde man's hands, then a man in an expensive suit said,
"We have a lovely village and wonderful people. I think you'1I like it where I'm going to take you. You'll be with your own kind, and after a little while you'd be amazed how little a while you'll feel a sense of significant belonging. You'll feel a sense of being loved. And you will be loved, Mr.Films." he said calmly.
"Mr.Film, we should go grab your things," said the blonde man. He was Motioning towards the door to the rooms.
Bryan then asked a question towards Mr.Pearl as they walked off.
"May I ask why are some of us born like this?" he asked, taking Mr.Pearls hand.
"I don't know, Mr.films. I really don't know."
he pauses.
"But do you know something? It doesn't really matter. There's an old
saying. . . a very, very old saying. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When we leave here...when we go tothe village...keep that in mind.
Try, Mr.Films. Say it over and
over in your mind. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
"Come on, now. We' II get your things, and we'll leave." said the blonde man
Then all three of them walked away through the halls of the hospital.
"Now the questions that come to mind: 'Where is this place, and when is it?' 'What kind of world where ugliness is the norm and beauty the deviation from that norm?' You want an answer? The answer is, it doesn't make any difference. Because the old saying happens to be true. Beauty *is* in the eye of the beholder, in this year or a hundred years hence. On this planet or wherever there is human life, perhaps out amongst the stars. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Lesson to be learned - in The Twilight Zone."
