10: Letter
The strong wind blew across everyone's faces as each of them watched as the private jet landed on the concrete ground around them. Except for Yura, he wasn't there.
Natsu and Lucy just arrived at the Compound from Bangkok.
Lucas, who was being held by Loki, had a bright smile on his face as he saw his parents get out of the aircraft; with Natsu holding Lucy's hand as she took careful steps down the metal stairs.
Not for long, Loki put him down so he could go and run to them.
"How did the meeting go, Natsu?" Rogue started as he walked towards the new arrivals.
"Still the First," the Don answered with a smirk.
Lucy was beside him, now holding Lucas in her arms. The little boy couldn't seem to stop smiling as he circled his small arms around his mother's neck.
"Of course we are. And that's not going to change," Lyon agreed smugly.
Everyone was being welcomed back.
Gajeel had Levy kissing him on the cheek, holding their baby. Gray had Juvia swooning all over him with her bulging belly, he had to put an arm around her to keep her straight. Elfman...well he had Ever. Even Cana had Loki and the others high-fiving her.
Laxus saw this.
And as he watched each of them, he wondered...where was Mirajane?
Why wasn't she there to welcome him? And Gin, why wasn't he there too?
He looked around for them.
Bickslow hesitantly walked towards him, as if knowing who he was looking for.
"Where is she?"
Laxus asked, turning to him.
This got everyone's attention as soon as it escaped his mouth.
Bickslow sighed before leaning near his ear.
As he whispered the answer to his question, Laxus' eyes instantly widened in shock.
Without sparing a look at the others, he immediately made his way towards the Main House.
Where Mira was.
Natsu and Lucy didn't know what just happened. What did they miss?
"What happened while we were away?" Natsu turned to Zeref.
His brother gave a long sigh,
"Well, you see..."
.
.
In one of the main house's rooms...
She lay on the bed, fast asleep.
Peaceful.
A white blanket was spread over her body.
Her silver hair sprawled on the pillow.
This was what Laxus saw instead of the usual Mirajane that would have given him the warmest smile and embrace when he got back. Just like every day after work.
But no.
Here she was, in her weakest and most fragile state.
Gin was by her side, sleeping as well. It seemed like the little boy was waiting for her to wake up.
Laxus quietly walked towards the side of the bed, careful not to disturb her slumber.
He sat on the edge of the bed, next to her.
He just stared at her face for who knows how long.
"I'm sorry for making you wait," he whispered. Just enough for him to hear.
He slowly leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her head.
When he pulled back, a pair of blue eyes were already staring back at him.
Mirajane was now awake.
It startled him for a moment. Not expecting it would wake her.
Laxus smiled at her worriedly,
"Hey."
Hearing his voice, Mira blinked. Not just once but twice. It was like she was making sure she wasn't just imagining him.
He was real.
Realizing that he was finally back, a tear slid down from her eyes.
Laxus didn't get a chance to wipe it away since she abruptly sat up and clung on to him. She sobbed quietly.
That very moment, Mirajane felt the secureness she had been waiting for.
As she continued to cry with him rubbing her back, Laxus could only think of one name he blamed for what happened.
Invel.
.
NATSU'S OFFICE
"I heard what you did."
Natsu's calm voice had a hint of dissatisfaction as he spoke.
He was sitting on his black leather chair, legs crossed and his hand supporting his chin.
He looked at Invel straight in the eyes, standing in front of his desk.
He was told to report to Natsu as soon as he found out about the incident with Mira.
"Is this about Mirajane?"
Invel asked with a confused look on his face.
Natsu just continued to stare at him.
"Don, I was only-"
"I don't want to hear any fucking excuse from your mouth."
He cut him off straight with a blank face.
Then there was short silence after that.
"Forgive me," Invel looked down as he fixed his glasses.
"While you're here in my house, don't speak of the past that this Family has gone through," Natsu started, "Do not show yourself in front of Mira ever again. Do you understand?"
Invel slowly lifted his head to see eye to eye with Natsu.
"Understood," he answered with a voice that sounded like he was sorry.
Then the door to the office suddenly busted open, making an angry loud noise.
It was Laxus.
And the moment he saw Invel standing there, he didn't waste any second and furiously treaded heavily towards him,
"YOU!"
He shouted as he landed a punch straight on Invel's face, hard enough to get him on the floor.
Natsu just watched, he knew this was going to happen.
It didn't surprise him.
He didn't stop Laxus and let him hit the other, it was what Invel deserved anyway.
The blonde picked the other up by the suit jacket and punched him again.
Blood now dripped from his mouth.
Laxus was ready to do it again.
"Enough,"
But Natsu stopped him with the authority he had.
Laxus was hesitant as he harshly let go. His eyes still narrowed at the other.
Invel turned to Natsu as he wiped the blood off his mouth.
"I don't want him near my wife and child again, Natsu. It doesn't matter if he used to be a part of this Family. He is my enemy."
And with that, Laxus left without another word.
Natsu just sat there with the same look on his face. Neither pleased nor angry.
Invel chuckled,
"Okay, I deserved that."
There was a knock on the door not long after.
The two men looked to see who it was this time.
Zeref came in.
He was holding a white envelope in his hand.
"Natsu, I found this letter at the front door. I believe it's for you."
He said as he walked towards him, giving the letter to his brother.
He received it and started reading it.
And as every second passed by, his eyes slowly narrowed.
"What is it?" Zeref asked, noticing the scowl that was starting to form on his face. Even Invel saw it.
"Leave us,"
Natsu said as he continued to look at the letter. Invel knew it was directed to him. So he left the room after giving the brothers a respectful bow.
.
"Who would have the balls to threaten me?" Natsu was in clenched teeth as he handed the letter back to Zeref so he would see.
After reading the content of the paper, the older one understood.
"Whoever made this, the person has to be in the compound," he started as he looked back to Natsu, "Nobody can easily get through our security let alone pass our gates. It has to be someone from the inside."
Natsu remained silent as he looked into nothing in particular.
The scowl on his face not leaving.
"We have a traitor in our midst, brother," Zeref finished.
Natsu slowly turned to him.
He took the letter from Zeref's hands and crumpled it.
His knuckles turned white as he did. The paper didn't deserve to be crushed that badly, but the words written on it did.
"Lucy must not know about this."
He stood up from the chair.
Throwing the letter into the trash.
