Wyatt

All I have to say is...

R.I.P Marble.

You were an awesome cat.

You're going to be happy and healthy.

I'll miss you.❤🐱❤

Also...I apologize for the the length of this. It has a reason why it's short.

When Mitch was three, the babysitter who watched him and his siblings had a cat.

Who just happened to have kittens.

Much to say, Mitch and his siblings were excited. Since Scott and Kirstie already had pets, Avi and Kevin both decided that Mitch should have a cat.

And the young boy has never been more excited.

He almost tripped when he ran up the walkway to his babysitter's door, Avi making sure that his son didn't trip on the way. Scott and Kirstie followed Kevin, anxiously waiting for Mitch to chose his kitty.

His perfect kitty.

"Miss. Wany!" Mitch yelled, his 'r's sounding like 'w's. Miss. Rany opened her door, smiling when she saw the family. "I'm weady fow my kitty."

"Aw, yes! Let me go get him." Miss. Rany remarked, letting the family inside. Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch ran over to the cat and kittens while Kevin and Avi stayed behind to talk to her. "Such a cute boy. You two raised him right."

"We sure did." Avi murmured, smiling when Mitch walked over. Avi knelt down, his heart warming up at the grey kitten in Mitch's arms. "Is that your kitty, Mitchy?"

"Yep." Mitch answered, giggling slightly as he looked at his kitty. He kissed the top of the kitten's head, making the adults around him smile. "I just don't know what to name him."

"That's your decision, baby boy. Whatever you think is the best." Ken spoke up, Scott and Kirstie anxiously waiting to see what Mitch will call his cat. Mitch tilted his head and giggled again when a name came to mind.

The perfect name.

"Wyatt Blue is his name. My Wyatt Blue."

And that was the start of Mitch and Wyatt.

Wyatt was Mitch's companion and he loved each of the kids, no matter what they did to him. Mitch, one time, carried him by his neck, but Wyatt didn't mind. He just let it happen.

Mitch loved that cat more than life itself.

Scott and Kirstie, unfortunately, lost their pets within a few years after Wyatt, but they weren't affected by it. Sure, they lost their pets, but Wyatt filled in that void. He made the family whole.

Avi and Kevin couldn't stand cats, but Wyatt caught their hearts. They loved that cat more than life itself and they vowed to protect that cat the best they could.

Wyatt was the best cat and made everyone happy. He was a big part to the family and Mitch believed that his cat will live a long time.

But all that changed when Wyatt was thirteen and a half.

Scott was in college, Kirstie was applying to college, and Mitch was just playing with Wyatt. Everything was normal.

Until the first seizure happened.

Mitch was being careful with Wyatt as he played with him, knowing that the old cat was not as active as he used to be. Mitch laughed as Wyatt jumped off the bed, leaning over to see if he was okay.

"You okay, you old ca-Wyatt!"

The poor cat was seizing, his body out of control as Mitch watched. Mitch screamed loudly, Kevin running to his room quickly. Kevin opened the door, his eyes wide as he saw Mitch crying his eyes out.

"Mitch, what's wro-"

"Something's wrong with Wyatt, Dad!" Mitch yelled, the tears in his eyes blurring his vision. Kevin looked down at the cat, gasping quietly as he watched the cat loose control of his body. "What's wrong with him?!"

Kevin was about to answer when Wyatt's seizure stopped, the cat meowing quietly as he jumped on Mitch's bed. The old cat went onto Mitch's lap, purring as Mitch and Kevin shared a look. They both knew what was happening, but they didn't want to say it out loud.

Wyatt is dying.

And he might be in his last days.

Mitch refused to believe it. Wyatt is not dying. The cat is living a long life and will live for the next few years. Wyatt is fine. Sure, the seizures happened at least once a day, but he's fine.

He has to be.

That is...

Until Wyatt got fleas.

The poor cat chewed at himself, his skin breaking open so he could get the fleas off of him. Mitch had no choice but to swat Wyatt, telling him no as tears welled up in his eyes. He hates seeing Wyatt like this. It eventually went to the point where Avi went to the vet's to get medicine for Wyatt in hopes to get rid of the fleas. The medicine was effective, everyone thought, and Wyatt was getting better.

Right?

They thought he was.

And their lives will change forever because of a late day in March.

Scott came home for Spring Break and his heart broke when he saw the cone around Wyatt's neck, wanting nothing more than to rip it off. Mitch lacked emotions, his eyes blank as he put the cat into a kennel. Avi booked an appointment for Wyatt at the groomer's so that the fleas will have a harder time attaching to Wyatt's fur. The brothers and their father left early, Wyatt in a kennel. Everyone was quiet, the dear cat on their minds.

Wyatt did not deserve this.

When they arrived at the groomer's, that was when they saw Wyatt being aggressive for the first time ever. He tried to bite the groomer and even Mitch at one point. Scott watched the cat, his heart breaking as he looked into the cat's eyes. He knew what the cat's eyes were saying and it broke him.

Wyatt's eyes were saying: Let me go.

Later in the day, when Avi was about to give Wyatt his medicine, Mitch walked in with Wyatt in his arms. He looked upset, shaking a bit as he shook his head.

"Wyatt scratched at his scab."

Avi widened his eyes, looking at Wyatt's side to find that the scab Wyatt had from scratching himself too hard was indeed lifting up. Avi frowned, not knowing how to react when he took out the medicine.

"Last dose, Wyatt. You'll be better in no time."

Avi gave the medicine to Wyatt, smiling sadly as Mitch took him away. Mitch put the old cat in his room, kissing the top of the cat's head tenderly, knowing very little of what will happen in the next few hours.

It was just a normal night, Scott and Kirstie joking around as usual. Kevin was cooking, pitching in with a joke that made his two oldest children tool their eyes and chuckle. Avi was smiling at his family, wondering where his youngest was when aforementioned child walked onto the living room. His eyes were full of pain and unshed tears as he walked over to Avi, taking a deep breath before speaking.

"Pops, I need to talk to you."

Avi was about to ask why when Mitch walked to the front door, opening the door wide for his father. Avi opened his mouth to speak once more when Mitch spoke before him.

"He's gone."

Avi raised an eyebrow, not understanding what Mitch meant until Mitch spoke again:

"Wyatt died."

Avi gasped, tears rolling done his cheek instantly while he yelled:

"No, he did not! He did not!"

Scott and Kirstie stopped talking, the both of them sharing a look. Why is their dad crying? That was when they heard Avi say:

"Wyatt is dead!"

Scott gasped, tears in his eyes as he gasped quietly. He covered his eyes, wanting this to be a lie. Kirstie was emotional but did not know how to react. Should she cry? Scream? Accuse Mitch of lying? She couldn't accuse him though.

Wyatt is dead.

Scott watched as Mitch walked into his room, crying even more as he heard Mitch cry. He just wanted everything to be back to normal.

Is that too much to ask for?

Avi walked inside, tears in his eyes as he cleared his throat. He looked over at his oldest children, wiping his eyes before speaking once more.

"Do you guys want to see him one last time? Until...we bury him?"

Kirstie nodded, standing up while Scott had a longer time to stand up. He sobbed to himself, walking into Mitch's room to find Mitch petting his cat. Kirstie was sitting next to him, her hand on Mitch's back while she pet Wyatt.

One last time.

Scott sat down on the other side of Mitch, sobbing once more as more as he put a gentle hand on Wyatt's side. He said a small prayer, wanting nothing more than for Wyatt's journey to the Rainbow Bridge to be a safe one.

And then the time came.

Mitch was digging a hole, Kevin helping him. They were making Wyatt's grave.

Something that Mitch would have never expected to say right now.

Something he expected to say when Wyatt was older, but not now.

"I'm so sorry, Mitch," Kevin whispered, getting a nod from Mitch. Scott came over, his cheeks stained with unshed tears. He put his phone flashlight on, helping Mitch see better. Mitch dug roughly, just wanting to bury Wyatt so he could get over everything.

But will he really get over everything?

Mitch almost dug a hole that was big enough for Wyatt when Avi called him over, making him stop. He walked over to Avi as Kirstie walked over to Scott, standing on her tippy toes so she can tell him her wonderful plan:

"I suggested that we cremate Wyatt so Mitch will still have his ashes."

And sure enough, Mitch loved the idea. The process was a bit expensive, but in no time at all, Mitch had Wyatt's ashes in a little box.

On the box was Wyatt's picture and the box came along with a stone and a piece of paper with his pawprints and a certificate with his name on it.

Even though seeing it everyday hurts his heart, Mitch knows that Wyatt will always be there.

Close to his heart.

A/N: Well...if you couldn't tell, this was based on a true story. My brother's cat died the second day of Spring Break and it was horrible. Most of the events that happened with his cat dying was not written down mostly because that night was a blur to me. My brother does have his ashes and even though it was hard to the see the box, it was a reminder that our sweet cat is still with us. I miss you, Marble.💕 Also, the reason why this one-shot is shirt is because it symbolizes how shirt life is. Live life to the fullest, my loved ones.  Anyway, I hope that you enjoyed this one-shot and remember that I love you all.:)
