The Olusola family went to the lake they go to every winter ever since Avi was a little kid. There, Avi taught his children how to ice skate.

That is, for Scott and Kirstie.

Mitch, the youngest at five years old, never learned how to do. Sure, he's five, but his siblings learned how to ice skate were they were bit younger than him. They wanted to teach him how last year, but he got scared. He didn't want to fall in the water.

This year will be different( By AltoPentaholic) because Scott will help him.

Kirstie was to go on the frozen lake when Kevin stopped her her. He looked around the lake and pointed at an area that is about six feet away.

"It's thin over there so don't go there, okay?" Kevin told her in a fatherly yet strict voice. Kirstie nodded and began to skate, laughing while doing so. "Avi, where are the boys?"

"Right here," Avi answered, shaking Kevin their sons. Scott looked excited while Mitch looked scared. "Mitch is scared about skating, but Scott will help him."

"You'll be okay, Mitch," Kevin promised. Mitch nodded, his brown eyes full of unshed tears. "Papa and I are right here if you need anything."

"And I will be by you the entire time," Scott brought up excitedly. Mitch nodded and looked at the ice. Being five years old, he got scared easily. "I'll hold your hand the entire time."

Mitch looked up at his older brother and turned to his dads. They nodded and smiled at him warmly. He then looked back at the lake and nodded.

"I'm ready."

"There, you got it! Don't fall," Scott commented, holding Mitch's arms. The five year old's legs are shaking, but he is doing a great job. "Do you want to skate by yourself now?"

"Um, I guess," Mitch answered, moving his legs carefully. He began to move forward and he managed to stable himself. "I'm doing it, Scott!"

The eight year old smiled when he saw his brother skate around. He then saw his brother skate to an area not far from them. He could hear his brother's giggles and he laughed himself.

"I could do it! I could do it! I cou-"

Mitch let out a scream when he fell through a piece of ice. He felt the ice cold water attack his body instantly. It was the worst pain of the world. He then got up and screamed.

"Scott, save me!"

Scott widened his eyes as he looked around to see if he could something, anything to get his brother. He then found a log not too far from him and skated to it quickly, hoping to get to his brother.

Kirstie stopped skating when she heard a high pitched scream. She raised an eyebrow and looked towards the area where Scott and Mitch are.

Why does that area look familiar?

She widened her eyes when she saw Mitch's little body trying to get out of the lake. He fell in again and Scott went to the side of the lake to get a log. She skated quickly to her dads, breathing heavily once she got to them

"Kirstie, what's the matter?" Avi asked, brushing back his daughter's hair. Her cheeks are rosy and they have tears in them. "Baby, what's the matter?"

"Mitch...lake...fell...Scott...log," she managed to get out. She then began to cry and Kevin widened his eyes.

I forgot to tell them.

"Mitch skated over thin ice."

Scott successfully dragged the log to the place where Mitch fell in. His heart dropped when he no longer saw the little body trying to get out. He then skated towards it and held his breath, jumping in. The water felt like a million knives stabbing him in every direction. He didn't care though.

He widened his eyes as he saw his brother closing his eyes. The older brother swam towards the younger one and took him in his arms. The body was light so Scott swam up in no time. He got to the surface, breathing heavily. He saw Avi and Kevin skating towards him. Kirstie stayed by Avi, her cheeks red from both the cold and tears. Kevin helped Scott and Mitch out, picking up his half-asleep son.

"Oh my gosh, Scott," Avi whispered, hugging his oldest child. "Don't scare me like that ever again."

"I'm sorry, Papa," Scott replied, chattering his teeth. Kevin held Mitch close to his body, hoping to keep him warm. "Will he be okay?"

"We might have to take him to the hospital," Kevin noted, skating to the side of the lake. "Let's leave."

The family went to the hospital immediately. After a few tests, it was confirmed that Scott was in the first stage of hypothermia while Mitch was in the last stage. The doctor pointed out that if Scott didn't save Mitch when he did, the small five year old would have passed away. The family is so happy that none of that happened.

After getting a hospital room( the doctor wants to see if Mitch has pneumonia), the family for situated. Scott looks a bit better, but there is no doubt that he will be sick.

"I'm happy you saved Mitchy," Kirstie began, smiling a bit. The seven year old lost her front tooth recently and she's looks absolutely adorable. "You are his protecter."

"Am I?" Scott asked, his voice raspy. Avi nodded as he hugged his oldest child.

"You saved your brother from dying," Avi pointed out, smiling a bit. "Like the doctor said, he was minutes away from death. You saved him and he's going to be okay."

Scott smiled a bit and noticed Kevin holding Mitch's hand gently. Kevin smiled and patted a seat next to him. Scott went up to him and sat down, smiling at his youngest sibling.

"God made you brothers for a reason," Kevin told Scott gently. Scott nodded and smiled when he saw the rosy cheeks Mitch has go back to its original color. "I'm so proud of you, Scott."

"Thank you, Daddy," Scott responded shyly, hugging Kevin softly. Mitch's eyes fluttered and opened entirely. He turned towards Scott and smiled at him. "Hi, Mitchy. I love you."

"I love you too, Scotty," Mitch replied. "Thank you for saving me."

"You're welcome, Mitchy."

At that moment, the brothers had a bond that will never break. It turned into something beautiful. They became strong because of what happened to them at the lake. They got closer that day.

Scott is Mitch's protecter and they will never let anything come between them.
